Chapter 1:Meeting the Gods
Xiao Sheng hesitated for five minutes, but still didn't dare to take a step towards the two-meter-high, one-meter-wide light door in front of him.
Just as he was about to make a move, a person walked out of the light door.
This person was dressed in ancient clothes, with luxurious silk and golden embroidery, naturally exuding an air of nobility.
They locked eyes for a moment, and the person immediately fell to the ground and exclaimed, "Greetings, immortal!"
Xiao Sheng felt a myriad of emotions in his heart at this moment, but he didn't know how to express himself.
The person continued, "Although I, Zhu Youjian, did not mean to offend the heavenly countenance, the Ming Dynasty is currently facing great danger, and the people are suffering. I beseech you, immortal, to bestow your divine magic and save the people of the world! Zhu Youjian is here to express his gratitude!"
"I am not an immortal," Xiao Sheng felt his head spinning, this person came up and started talking about "great righteousness" and "the people's suffering," making him truly unsure of what to do.
However, he did catch onto some key words, such as "Ming Dynasty" and "Zhu Youjian."
Xiao Sheng had some knowledge of the Ming Dynasty. Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding emperor, was undoubtedly the most legitimate emperor in Chinese history. His reign, regardless of the incompetence of subsequent emperors, at least lived up to the evaluation of "the emperor guarding the country's doors, the king dying for the state."
Zhu Youjian was Emperor Chongzhen, who, during his reign, was known for being diligent and frugal, but still limited in his abilities, ultimately leading to the downfall of the Ming Dynasty.
Based on Xiao Sheng's own understanding, Zhu Youjian had tried his best, but was limited by circumstances, both natural and man-made.
"Are you truly Zhu Youjian? Is the other side of the door the Ming Dynasty?" Xiao Sheng quickly confirmed.
Although Xiao Sheng had denied it earlier, Zhu Youjian still believed that Xiao Sheng was an immortal.
He was reading by the oil lamp in the palace when he suddenly noticed a light door appearing on the side wall.
The light door emitted a soft white light, resembling immortality.
This led him to speculate that behind the light door was the immortal realm.
So he instructed his attendants not to disturb him while reading, and after much hesitation, he decided to go inside the door himself.
Danger and opportunity often go hand in hand. If he sent someone else in, they might seize the opportunity for immortality.
Entering the light door, he saw a luminous lotus flower blooming on the ceiling, surrounded by unfamiliar objects. This couldn't be the underworld, could it?
So he promptly knelt down.
"Yes, the mortal realm is indeed the Ming Dynasty, and I am Zhu Youjian, the Prince of Xin."
Sixteen-year-old Emperor Chongzhen's face was slightly young, but the noble air of the royal family made Xiao Sheng feel that this person was different from ordinary people.
Zhu Youjian, the Prince of Xin, meant that he had not yet become the emperor.
The other side of the door was the Ming Dynasty, which meant enormous wealth!
Xiao Sheng's breathing became heavy for a moment, and his eyes seemed to turn into silver.
"Rise, please take a seat here." Xiao Sheng said to Zhu Youjian and quickly turned to the door, locking it.
When he returned, he found Zhu Youjian still kneeling there, saying, "If the immortal does not agree, Zhu Youjian is willing to kneel here until death!"
It had to be said that the patriotic sentiment displayed by this sixteen-year-old youth touched Xiao Sheng.
Xiao Sheng approached and helped Zhu Youjian up, saying, "I really am not an immortal, just an ordinary person. Come, sit here, let's talk."
As someone who was used to such situations, Xiao Sheng was quite accepting of the idea of crossing over, although it wasn't him who crossed over, but the person on the other side.
Although Zhu Youjian's accent was slightly different from Xiao Sheng's, with the help of written words, their communication went smoothly.
"What?! You say my brother will pass away in August, and I will become the emperor?"
"I will reign for seventeen years, and the Ming Dynasty will fall at my hands?!"
"Li Zicheng will capture the imperial city, and I will hang myself on Coal Hill?"
"The Manchus will occupy the entire country, slaughtering more than half of the Han people, causing countless households to be empty?!"
"Is it because of me that China perishes and the Han people are on the verge of extinction?"
The current Chongzhen was only sixteen years old, although he was already of marrying age in ancient times, in modern terms, he was just a high school student.
The sudden knowledge of all this dealt a heavy blow to him.
But Xiao Sheng didn't know how long this portal would last, so he could only tell Zhu Youjian as much as possible, knowing that it would have some impact on him.
Although he had thoughts of using the portal to make money across two worlds, the specific duration and form of the portal's existence were still uncertain factors.
So out of his meager patriotism, Xiao Sheng told Zhu Youjian some things first.
Even if the reality cannot be changed, in another timeline where the Han people are no longer ruled by the Qing, it would still be a happy thing for him.
Zhu Youjian still believed that Xiao Sheng was an immortal, and chose to trust his words. With each new piece of information, he became increasingly despondent.
At first, he expressed shock and anger, but then fell into complete silence.
Xiao Sheng looked at him, saying that he might end up hanging himself on a crooked-neck tree, and quickly comforted him, saying, "Actually, there is still room for reconciliation. With the loyal ministers I told you about, don't let the Donglin Faction dominate everything. That way, there is still time to correct your mistakes.
The Ming Dynasty's downfall was partly due to natural disasters as well. You did your best."
Zhu Youjian seemed to have fallen into a state of withdrawal. Xiao Sheng took out a glass and poured him a glass of Sprite, saying, "Drink this, it might make you feel better."
"Are you truly not an immortal? Can't you use immortal magic to directly destroy the Manchu invaders?" Zhu Youjian seemed to not have noticed Xiao Sheng's actions, suddenly looking up and staring at him, asking again.
"Truly, I am not. If there were immortals using their magic, the Jurchen people wouldn't have invaded. If you want to revive the Ming Dynasty, you can only rely on yourself." Xiao Sheng shrugged his shoulders.
As for Xiao Sheng himself, he didn't have any grand ambitions. Unlike Zhu Youjian, who proclaimed "expelling the invaders, reviving China" at the first opportunity, he had no plans to try and do anything, even though he knew he was facing the Ming Dynasty.
At least for now, he didn't have the courage.
From this perspective, the sixteen-year-old Prince Zhu Youjian was indeed more outstanding than the twenty-three-year-old salaryman Xiao Sheng.
"Then, immortal, sir, can you help me!?" Zhu Youjian was still just a sixteen-year-old youth, and his childhood was not happy, as his father, Emperor Guangzong, was disliked by his grandfather, Emperor Shenzong, and his mother was a concubine despised by the crown prince.
Now suddenly learning about his own and the nation's destiny, the great responsibility and pressure made him lose his composure.
Earlier, he had thought that Xiao Sheng was an immortal, simply looking for a support.
And now, being told that there were no immortals, he still wanted to rely on Xiao Sheng, who "knew everything," which was only natural.
"I can help you, but I don't know if this portal can exist indefinitely. I don't know the rules of its appearance. Drink your beverage first, and I'll study it." Xiao Sheng was a cautious and prudent person. There were certain things he wouldn't agree to or do without certainty.
The appearance of this portal had a basis.
Ten minutes ago, a spatial c***k appeared in Xiao Sheng's room, and a copper coin emerged from it.
The coin didn't indicate its era, it had no inscriptions, only mysterious patterns.
The spatial c***k disappeared, and Xiao Sheng couldn't help but touch it.
The coin directly "merged" into his body, forming a coin-shaped tattoo on his right wrist.
Seeing this tattoo, Xiao Sheng naturally wanted to activate it, and as this thought appeared, the portal connecting to the Ming Dynasty came into existence.
This was why he hesitated for five minutes and didn't dare to enter.
It was mainly because he had accidentally acquired another tattoo, and he didn't know if something would be added or subtracted if he approached the door.
An unfamiliar and transcendent object, only a fool would rush in without thinking.
Zhu Youjian now chose to rely on Xiao Sheng, so he would naturally listen to him.
He picked up the glass, about to take a sip, but was astonished by the cup itself.
The drinking glass was made of such clear and transparent glass, surely this person was extremely wealthy, even if not an immortal.
Also, he hadn't noticed earlier, but this chair was made of an unknown material, surprisingly soft and comfortable, like the embrace of a mature woman. Could this truly not be the immortal realm?
He finished the Sprite in one gulp, feeling a refreshing sensation feedback from his stomach to his brain, instantly feeling clear-headed. The daze he had been in disappeared.
Such a drink must be an extraordinary brew!
Zhu Youjian looked around, everything seemed unfamiliar, different from what he knew of the mortal realm.
