The nurse did not see it coming. She was on the floor, lifeless in a split second. She never even saw who shot her. Lola got up from the couch and checked her pockets before calling Melisa.
“He is awake?” Melisa could not hide her excitement.
Lola let out a sigh before disappointing her. “No, but someone has tried to finish him. She is dead. I don’t know whom to call about this stuff,” Lola explained. She was pacing up and down Shane’s private ward when Melisa, the King, Queen and legends showed up.
Melisa ran to her daughter-in-law and squeezed her tightly. Lola had saved Shane again.
“Dear Lord, this is a nightmare!” the Queen exclaimed before slumping on the couch.
“I take it you know her,” Lola read their expressions.
“Cecelia. She is the most loyal of our nurses. Ethical too,” the king responded with a tone Lola could not read.
“She is also Charlse’s mistress,” Melisa added.
“Okay?” Lola responded expectantly.
“Charlse is the king’s third brother,” Melisa explained while Lola shook her head.
“I guess he wants your throne?”
The king shook his head. “He has never shown any sign of that. Beside Shane, out of all my siblings, he would have been the one I would run to if in trouble.”
“I am going to kill him,” Lola swore while the king let out a sigh.
“I won’t stop you if we have the evidence pointing to him. I have lived long enough to know that nothing is ever what it seems in the Foster world.”
Lola frowned at his words.
“What happened?” Queen Mandy asked, and Lola explained. Lola could not help feeling like something was off as they asked questions.
“There is nothing on her I could find, except that syringe she tried to inject Shane with,” Lola responded to their many questions and saw them exchanging looks.
“So, she did not have any weapon on her? She could have just been here for his medication,” the king finally asked. So far, it seemed to him that Lola had really snapped and suspicious of anyone coming near Shane.
“You do not believe me,” Lola said with a sinking heart.
“We don’t have any evidence. She is a nurse here. She adored Shane. The nursing manager says she was called in when one of the nurses fell ill.”
The king’s words were getting to Lola. Lack of sleep and frustration of feeling out of control were making her impatient.
“You do not trust me. I am telling you she was here to kill Shane!” she snapped while the legends cast their eyes. Any other person, they would apprehend and punished severely for talking to the king that way, but she was the Mokay. She had defeated all of them just a few hours ago.
Melisa gently tugged Lola’s sleeve, reminding her of the King’s title but Lola was fuming.
“I know how devastating Shane’s shooting is to you. We feel the same way too, but you can’t go on a shooting spree. You can’t hurt innocent people. Shane would not approve, and I will not allow it,” the king said firmly. He was now convinced that Lala had indeed snapped and not stable.
His word’s fueled Lola’s anger. Shane got shot in his castle because he summoned them to a court for baseless accusations and now making her sound stable. She was now livid.
“Shane is fighting for his life because of his association with you. The least you can do is…”
“Lola!” Melisa exclaimed, cutting her off.
Lola took deep breaths to calm herself.
“Shane is my husband. He is not safe here. I am transferring him out of this country,” she said decisively. “I don’t care if you believe me or not. I will find your brother and the people responsible for his shooting, and I will kill them,” she added, gritting her teeth before storming out. She needed fresh air before she actually snapped and strangled the king.
“Lola,” Melisa called to her daughter-in-law before apologizing to the king.
“It is okay, Mel. I understand her. I just don’t know how Charlse is going to take this. Cecelia was his life.”
That was the king’s dilemma now. Knowing his brother, he would want to avenge his childhood sweetheart. It would be a nightmare if he and Lola met now.
Lola was pacing outside before it dawned on her that she did not have funds to transferer Shane out of Harpoon. Her savings were not enough, and she had no access to Shane’s accounts. They had just gotten married, she did not even know which bank Shane used, let alone his account pins.
“Breathe, Sweety. I believe you.”
Lola turned around to find Melisa behind her. She threw herself in her arms and got squeezed into a hug. Having someone believe her meant the world to her.
“Tell me what you need,” Melisa asked.
“I want Shane out of here, Mel. I don’t know the people here. I don’t trust anyone. The next time it will be the doctor. I can’t lose Shane,” Lola confessed.
“Okay. Leave that to me.”
Melisa did not really know what happened with the nurse, but all she knew was that Lola loved her son, and she was the only one who could keep him safe. She also knew that her actions would put a strain between her and the king and queen, but her son and Lola were all the family she had.
A few minute later, she had organized for top doctors and nurses to be flown over to Harpoon. They would tend to Shane on the flight and wherever she and Lola decided to take Shane.
Lola quietly went back to Shane’s ward. She completely ignored the king and queen until they all left.
Just as King Dante feared, he and his queen found a fuming Prince Charlse in the hall. The Prince wanted to kill Lola with his own hands.
“Calm down, Charlse. Let me get to the bottom of this,” the king urged, but he had no idea how he would do that. It was not like he could raise Cecilia from the dead.
“The Mokay is unstable, and you know it. Execute her. You knew Cecilia. She would never hurt a fly. I want that woman dead,” Prince Charlse yelled angrily. He vowed to avenge his sweetheart even if it was the last thing he did.
“Calm down, Sweetheart. Let the king handle this,” Princess Kate urged lovingly, but thrilled inside. The mistress who had all her husband’s affection was finally dead.
“Get away from me!” the prince snapped, pushing his wife away like she had an infectious illness.
The medical personnel had just arrived in Harpoon, the king was still trying to reason with his fuming brother when the laboratory informed them that the syringe the nurse was injecting Shane with had cyanide, a potent poison.
