Lillian's pulse pounded as she took a hesitant step toward Selene, the weight of her decision pressing against her chest. Ezra's hand shot out, gripping her wrist, his eyes wild with desperation.
"Lillian, don't do this," Ezra pleaded, his voice breaking. "You don't know what she's offering. She's twisting the truth."
Selene folded her arms, amusement flickering in her silver eyes. "Am I?" She gestured toward the swirling images still lingering in the air, each showing a different version of Lillian and Ezra's love story. "Or are you just afraid of what happens when she learns everything?"
A new voice interrupted them. "Perhaps we should all stop pretending we don't know how this ends."
Lillian whipped around to see a man stepping out of the shadows. He was tall, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, his dark hair slicked back. His golden eyes shimmered with something inhuman.
Ezra stiffened. "No... It can't be."
Selene smirked. "Ah, finally, the missing piece arrives. Lillian, meet Cassius—the Keeper of Broken Time."
Cassius gave a mock bow, his gaze lingering on Lillian. "You and I have met before... though you wouldn't remember. But Ezra does."
Lillian turned to Ezra. "What is he talking about?"
Ezra exhaled sharply. "He's the reason we're trapped in this cycle."
Cassius chuckled. "That's not entirely true. I simply gave Ezra a choice—one he's been too much of a coward to undo."
Selene's expression darkened. "Cassius, enough games."
"Oh, but isn't that all this is?" Cassius gestured toward Ezra. "Go on, tell her. Or should I?"
Ezra clenched his jaw. "Lillian, I made a deal."
Lillian's heart plummeted. "What kind of deal?"
Ezra finally met her eyes, shame written across his face. "I couldn't lose you. The first time we met, in the real timeline... we didn't work out. You left. And I— I couldn't accept it. Cassius offered me a way to rewrite things."
Cassius grinned. "And so, he did. Again. And again. And again. Each time tweaking a moment, changing a word, a glance, a decision—until he got it 'right.'"
Lillian's knees nearly buckled. "You— You rewrote our love?"
Ezra's voice was barely a whisper. "Yes."
Selene stepped forward. "And now, the timeline is fracturing. Ezra's selfishness has created too many possibilities, and the weight of those choices is tearing time apart."
Cassius sighed dramatically. "So now, dear Lillian, you have a choice. You can continue as you are—caught in this cycle, doomed to relive variations of a love built on manipulation. Or—" he held out his hand, a golden pocket watch glinting in his palm "—you can break the loop."
Lillian's throat tightened. "What happens if I break it?"
Selene answered softly, "Everything resets. You go back to the beginning. The first meeting, the first words, the first mistake."
Cassius smirked. "And this time, no second chances."
Lillian felt the walls closing in. Ezra's deception, Selene's warnings, Cassius's temptation—it all spiraled around her in a whirlwind of broken time. Her mind screamed at her to run, to escape this endless cycle, but her heart... her heart still ached for the man who had rewritten fate just to hold onto her.
Ezra's voice cracked. "Lillian, I love you. No matter how it started, what we have is real."
Cassius's voice was smooth as silk. "Your move, darling."
Lillian closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and made her choice.
