45 The two officers escorted Douglas Crawford to their car to escort him back to the detachment. Sergeant Davis turned to Madie and gave her a stern look. “You alright?” She felt contrite, knowing she had some explaining to do. “Fine,” was all she said. Davis turned to the detectives. “I’ll travel with Madie back to the station. We’ll see you there.” To Madie, he said, “Come on, take me to your car.” Madie led him to it and when she pulled the keys out of her jacket pocket, he put his hand out. “I’ll drive. You’re white as a ghost. Get in and relax.” As he pulled away, he said, “This isn’t your vehicle. Whose is it?” “Sydney’s. I snuck over to her house and borrowed it, so the media wouldn’t follow me.” Madie had a ton of questions but doubted Davis would give her the answers, so she
