46 Madie opened her eyes to the sound of distant thunder. As her senses came into focus, reality set in. It was still dark and the alarm clock read five a.m. She’d slept eleven hours straight. On a trip to the bathroom to relieve herself, she peered out the window to see lightning flashing across the sky. A shiver passed through her and she added more wood to the fire, stoking up the still-hot embers. Madie remade her bed, snuggling under the covers pulled around her neck. In a matter of minutes, she felt warm and cozy, and rolled onto her back to stare at the ceiling. The pounding of rain on the tin roof of the cabin pulled her back into comfortable drowsiness. Then, it hit her. No nightmares, no visions, for the first time in six months. A memory tickled the edges of her mind of Cody
