Hope

We entered a little town called Hope, first stop is to find Alyra some clothes to wear.  She can't parade around the human world naked.

ChiChi took her near big metal bins, but it smelled horrible.  She told Alyra "this must be what the humans call trash, smell that? do not eat from that" ChiChi told her. 

Finally ChiChi found this orange bin marked donated clothing, ChiChi said " jackpot, then she instructed Alyra to change in human form and open the bin, and find some clothes to wear and something for her feet also".

Alyra changed in her human form and started rummaging through the bin for clothes that fit her, plus a pair of sneakers.  ChiChi said "perfect, now its time for me to sleep until we make it to Seattle".  Alyra started to cry, and ChiChi told her " you can do this, I am counting on you to get us to Seattle".  Alyra wiped her tears from her cheeks and said her finally goodbye to ChiChi, and told her " I love you ChiChi and I won't let you down".  ChiChi fell into a deep sleep and Alyra was alone.

Alyra roamed through Hope streets watching people how they talk and interact with each other.  She noticed people living in big dens, sometimes even their dens are as tall as the sky.

She was getting hungry, and she watched people enter a place and coming out with food.

So she went in after a few people and waited for her turn. 

When she got to the front of the line she asked for food, and the cashier asked "what did you want?" and Alyra replied "food".  So the young cashier order her a burger with fries and a drink.  She told Alyra "8.50", Alyra said "what is that?" The young cashier said" that is the cost of the meal, like money", Alyra responded "what is money?"

The young cashier canceled the order and told Alyra "to go away and come back when she has money".

Alyra left the place still not fully understanding what just happened.

It was getting late, and she still hasn't found a den yet, and her stomach was growling.  She roam the streets in the dark, and still looking for food.

She went down a dark alley, and halfway through the alley this tall man pop out in front of her.  He said "where are you heading to little girl?"  Alyra said "down there" while pointing straight with her finger.  Alyra felt uncomfortable being near this human.  

The tall man pulled out a knife and said " I don't think so".  Alyra asked the tall man "what is that in his hand?"  The tall man looked confused and said " a knife", Alyra replied "oh...what is it used for?"  The tall man just scratched his head and looked at Alyra funny for a few minutes.

Then he said "your coming with me", and Alyra replied "no, I'm going this way".  He grabbed Alyra's arm hard and tried dragging her out of the alley, but Alyra grabbed his arm with her other hand, you could hear the bone crack and break as she twist his arm, and told him" if you don't leave me alone I will break more than your arm next time".  The tall man was stunned a small girl just broke his arm with a single twist, he told Alyra "you must be some kind of freak", while holding the knife in his other hand shaking.  He ran away from Alyra as fast as he could holding his broken arm.

Alyra was walking down the rest of the alley, and saying "what is a freak?" Then she said 'humans are so strange in this place".

Alyra roamed for a week straight not finding nothing to eat, but she did find a bottle of water someone left in the trash.  It wasn't the first time she has gone without food.

It was nighttime when she was close to a park she decided to sleep on a bench, which she called "a  wooden log".  The next morning the sun shined on her dirty little face, he clothes looked like it had better days, and she smelled awful.

Need to find a place to take a bath, but I need some food.

She walked for miles and went behind this restaurant, and notice a young man throwing food away in a big metal bin, her mouth started to drool as she watched him closed the lid, and disappeared through a door.

She walked over to the bin, and climbed up on the side of the bin while pushing the lid open, and grabbed a half eating burger, but unfortunately she lost her grip and landed in the bin.

An elderly couple heard Alyra screaming for help so they moved closer to the trash bin, and noticed little Alyra scared and scratching to get out of the bin.  The elderly lady said "omg...are you alright dear? and how did you get in there?"  While her husband fished Alyra out of the trash bin.

The elderly man said "May this little girl is homeless". May replied "we can't just leave her here?"  Her husband gave her a look, and said "fine lets take her home".

Alyra told May "I have been looking for food for over a week now, and I say a young man throw food in that metal box, and I tried to get some but I landed up slipping, and falling in."  May's heart started to break. Then Alyra said "you found me".   While they walked back to the Atwater's car.

May opened the back door to their car for Alyra, Alyra stood there not knowing what to do, and May said "jump in".  So Alyra jumped in the car landing on her face in the seat, May just smiled, and said " buckle up?"  Alyra said "buckle up?"  May looked at Alyra funny, and showed Alyra how to put on her seat belt.  Then she got in the passenger side of the car and put her seat belt on also.

Ed started the car, Alyra got scared she started to cry and wanted to get out.  May told Alyra "its okay nothing going to happen to you, your safe with me and Ed."  Alyra was still tense but she stopped crying.

An hour later they reached the Atwater home, Ed and May got out but Alyra was still in the car.  May got Alyra out of her seat belt and brought her in their small farm house.

May told Ed that she will cook supper first then give the little one a bath after she eats.  Then May asked Ed to make sure the spare bedroom was tidy up for the little one to sleep in. 

 Ed grumps a bit but did as his wife asked, but told May that the little one really stinks, maybe you should give her a bath first, but May said " no, children sleep better after a warm bath, and we want her to sleep". " I'll wash her hands when I get her in the kitchen".

May started to cook supper for everyone.  She cooked potatoes, chicken, and carrots with peas.  Everyone sat down at the table with their plates all done up, May gave Alyra a glass of milk while they drank water.

May and Ed put their hands together and said "a prayer"  Alyra giggled and asked "who are you talking too?"  May told her its a prayer thanking for the food they are about to eat to their god.  Alyra said "oh...okay and said thanks god out loud."  May just giggled, but Ed looked at May funny.

May asked Alyra "what is your name little one?"  Alyra replied "Alyra", and May said "what a beautiful name".  Alyra said "thank you".  May said "well lets get you a warm bath and wash you up", and Alyra said "yes please", and thanked May for the food.

May ran the bath and helped Alyra out of her dirty clothes, and got her in the bathtub, she showed Alyra the soap to wash with while she washed Alyra's long dark brown hair.  May told Alyra "you have beautiful long hair, and such pretty light blue eyes", Alyra giggled and said "thank you".

After her bath May showed Alyra her room still in her towel, and Ed gave May a pair of pajama's from one of the grandchildren had left behind.  

She pulled the covers back on Alyra's bed and Alyra jumped into the big bed, then May pulled the covers over her, and told her "there you go, and goodnight little one".  May shut the light off, and left the door open.
