Thomas froze.
His grip on me loosened slightly. I had heard an alpha's command before but never like this. Even the air went still.
Derek turned first. I watched the lazy confidence drain out of his face. I saw a figure in all black standing there. His height and broad shoulders radiated strength and power.
I stayed completely still, too scared to move or even breathe.
Who could this man possibly be?
Derek let out a nervous laugh as the tall figure approached. Thomas still on top of me, frozen with shock.
"Leave her alone, don't make me repeat myself," the man warned.
"s**t. Tho…. Thomas, le… let go of her," Derek stammered.
Thomas didn't budge, he remained completely still.
The man moved fast. Faster than someone his size had any right to. One hand closed around Thomas's throat and the next second Thomas's back was against the wall, feet barely touching the ground.
"Alpha, this is just… we were just messing around, family stuff, you know how it is—" Derek mumbled.
Thomas clawed at the hand around his throat.Trying to free himself from the stranger. It didn't move.
"Attacking a defenseless wolf doesn't seem like family fun to me," the man replied as he grabbed one of Thomas's hands and snapped it. The sound of bone cracking filled the air.Thomas let out a blood curdling scream. The man released him and his body hit the ground with a thud, crumpling on the ground in pained whimpers.
And for the first time he turned and looked at me. My breath got caught in my chest. I've never seen such mesmerizing golden eyes before. I felt like I was being pulled into them. Then he started walking towards me, with every step warning bells went off in my head.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he got close enough.
"I…. I don't know," I'm practically shaking.
My hands lay flat on the ground, gripping into the dirt. My fingers ached. This man emanated danger.
He suddenly stopped, his body went rigid and his muscles tensed. His nose flared as he sniffed the air. His golden eyes began to glow, an ominous glow.
"What's happening here?" Alpha Reid's voice came from the far end of the courtyard. I looked up and saw people littered all around. Thomas's scream had drawn so much attention.
The whole pack was out, seemingly trying to find the cause of the commotion.
"What happened here proves how incompetent of an alpha you are, Reid," the stranger said, now face to face with Alpha Reid.
" A defenseless wolf was attacked in your pack, under your wing," he continued.
I could sense the tension in the air. The whole clearing was quiet, anticipating what was to come next.
"Alpha Andranus, that's a bold claim to make," Alpha Reid replied with a chuckle, hands tucked in his pockets. Something he does when he's trying to keep his cool.
Wait. Alpha Andranus. The most feared alpha on the continent. The man who rules his pack with brutality.
He saved me, but why?
"You know I don't make baseless claims, Reid. This she-wolf," Alpha Andranus pointed at me, "was attacked by two wolves. They did so boldly like it's a frequent occurrence."
All eyes were now on me. I caught a glimpse of my aunt's bright green eyes staring daggers at me. I'm sure she'll blame me for it.
Alpha Reid looked at me, trying to hold in his anger.
"Rhiannon is a clumsy and disobedient she-wolf, if she even counts as a wolf," Alpha Reid looked me up and down with distaste.
"She would have done something to prompt tha—"
Alpha Andranus was on Alpha Reid in a matter of seconds. His hand gripping Alpha Reid's shirt, baring his teeth and growling aggressively. This wasn't going to go well. Two powerful alphas toe to toe.
The tension in the air was suffocating.
"Don't push me, Reid. You know what happened the last time. Your crooked nose is proof of that," Alpha Andranus said coldly as he released Alpha Reid.
His whole demeanor changed in mere seconds, like he wasn't the one who had just grabbed Alpha Reid by the collar.
Everyone in the courtyard stood speechless.
"They will be punished accordingly. I will personally see to it," Alpha Reid said, adjusting the collar of his shirt.
"That won't do, Reid," Alpha Andranus replied.
"This she-wolf was wrongfully attacked and by ancient law, the offender belongs to the victim." Alpha Andranus paused, letting it land across the entire courtyard. "She will decide what happens to them."
Me?
I stood up shakily from the ground, strength finally returning from the shock of what I had just heard. I will be the one to punish them.
The whole pack is waiting for my decision.
