Chapter One
I had been told by my aunt to serve at the alphas summit, it was an order, not a request I could say no to. The whole pack is in attendance, and I’m here serving drinks and pastries.
"Rhiannon, come here. I need my glass refilled” my aunt’s all too familiar voice called from the end of the hall.
I quickly walk towards her, holding out the tray of champeign glasses. I trip and spill it all on her dress and feet.
“You imbecile, what have you done?” Aunt Mary shrieked, looking at me with disgust in her eyes.
" i'm sorry, I’m sorry” I scramble towards her trying to use my hands to wipe her dress. But before I could get close enough, she slapped my hand away.
“don’t touch me, you mutt!” aunt Mary’s face twisted with disgust. The look I’m all too familiar with. All eyes are now on us, I can feel their piercing gaze.
“ I’ll go get you some napkins to wipe your dress with” I inhaled rapidly trying to calm my nerves, trying my best to to desperately leave this uncomfortable situation.
" I don’t need your your help, nothing good ever comes from you, you always ruin everything just like you killed your parents”
Aunt Mary stormed off, pushing past everyone in her way.
She always brings up my parents death to make me break down and it works every single time.I bent down dejectedly as I pick the broken glasses back on the tray. My eyes are blurred with tears but I hold it in, I’m not going to cry in front of them. In front of pack members that have continually put me down, people who have always treated me like an outcast.
Murmurs and whispers erupts all around me.
“Weak”
“Wolfless freak”
Words I’m all to familiar with, I’ve heard them for years and for some reason it still hurts every single time. Why am I blamed for things I have no control over?
I quickly picked all the broken glasses and left the hall. I dispose the shattered glass into the bin in the kitchen.i wipe my tear filled eyes as I let out a shaken breathe, my heart pounding in my chest. I need to get fresh air, I can’t breakdown not here. I will get punished for it and no one will defend me.
I walk towards the back exit taking the more secluded part of the building to avoid running into anyone. I stop instantly when I see a dark figure entering a storage room at the end of the hallway.
Who could that posssibly be?
This part of the building is meant for servers and those who clean, no one barely uses it. My curiosity gets the best of me as I walk towards the door. I hear hushed whispers as I neared it.
“The packages have been safely delivered” a voice says, I recognize it. It’s Beta Mathew.
“Good the alpha convergence meeting is the perfect time to move them” another voice replies, this time it’s Alpha Reid my packs alpha.
“You were right, the other alphas are distracted with the annual meeting, their guards are down” beta Matthew replied this time
“ we need to keep them happy to be on their good side, we haven’t been able to deliver regularly due to the strict border regulations” Alpha Reid says
"The coven is getting impatient we need to move faster” a voice I don’t recognize says.
What coven? What could that even mean?
Why is alpha Reid being so secretive about whatever they’re delivering. If the other alphas don’t know about this, it isn’t a good thing then.
I tiptoe away from the door before I get caught heevesdropping on their conversations, walking quickly and lightly. Something I’ve learned over the years and has always come in handy. I get to the back exit and I’m immediately hit with the smell of alcohol and cigarettes.
I instantly know that this isn’t going to end well, it never ends well. I see Derek my cousin and bully along with his friend Thomas.
"Rhi, I and Thomas were just talking about you” Derek walks towards me sounding too cheerful with a smile on his face. I see through his facade, his smile never reaches his eyes. In the public eye he is the perfect delta wolf in training but behind close door he’s a monster. The cuts and bruises littered all over my body proves it.
"Funny because you just arrived at the right time” Derek added, slinging his arm over my shoulders, trapping me.
" I owe Tommy here some money. Lost a bet, you know how it is. But Tommy’s a good sport. He said I could pay in kind.” Derek holds me tighter, I look at Thomas who gives me a smug smirk. My face scrunched in understanding and my heart skips a beat.
Thomas terrifies me, he doesn’t just bully me to follow the crowd, he does it because he enjoys it. It brings him some kind of sick satisfaction. I know this was his idea. The smirk on his face proves it.
"I need to get back to the party” I’m already a shaking mess. I try to push him away but I’m too weak compared to him.
"Calm down rhianon, I’ll be quick I promise it won’t hurt” Thomas laughed as he walked towards me.
"pl-ease derek……let me go” I can hear my voice shaking. Derek suddenly shoves me towards Thomas. He catches me instantly.
“ No, please no” I sob out thrashing trying to break free from his hold but I’m nothing compared to his strength. Tears streamed down my face as he dragged me behind a bush.
“LEAVE HER ALONE, NOW”
An authoritative voice boomed through the air like thunder, I can feel the power even in my shaken state.
This is no ordinary man.
