Black as Coal

737 Words
For the next ten years I watched as my father comes completely undone every night after our strenuous training sessions. And not long after I was able to carry his withering frame to his bed to sleep. I walk out of the room and close the door quietly. I sigh outwardly. ‘What are we going to do Dia?’ ‘I do not know. I do not think he will last much longer...’ she trails off. ‘Don’t think like that.’ I snap at her. She slinks to the back of my mind. ‘I’m sorry Dia. I put my face in my hands as I walk towards my room. ‘I can’t bare the thought of losing him too.’ I slip into the shower to wash off today’s training. I let the water flow down my back as my mind wanders to my father. I slipped out of the shower and dried myself off. I grabbed my pajamas and slipped them on. I walked to my bed eyes slowly falling from exhaustion. ‘Good night Dia.’ ‘Good night Abby’ As soon as my eyes closed I heard a gunshot. I jumped up out of bed and ran to the direction of the gunshot. Warriors were already at his door ready to burst in. One looks to me and I nod. I look in horror as I see a gun sitting next to what was once my father’s face. All I see is red. I howl in pain as I feel hole in heart grow larger now because my father is gone. I crumble to the ground as I let the pain consume me releasing all my rage. My bones start snapping as I shift for the first time. I feel no pain due to my heart feeling numb. Diamond takes over blinded by the rage of betrayal, loses and loneliness going into a raging frenzy destroying what once was her father’s room. All the warriors looked star struck watching as the silver wolf’s fur turned to black as coal. “She needs to be restrained.” The beta Lee cried as he leapt towards my back. The warriors all joined trying to pin down my limbs only to be tossed like rag dolls around the room. “Retreat!” Lee cried as he cradled his wounded shoulder. Everyone left the room and the doors were closed. I thrashed destroying everything in sight leaving nothing unscathed. I felt my anger wavering as I became tired. A knock at the door fueled my rage once more. “Oh my sweet beautiful granddaughter what has become of you?” My grandmother sighed as she walked in the room. My rage subsided and my wolf was silver once more. I nuzzled my nose to her chest as she petted my head lovingly. “As much as I would love to give you comfort as well my beautiful...” she paused. “What is your name my dear?” ‘I am Diamond.’ “Well I would love to comfort you as well Diamond but I need to console my granddaughter as well.” Diamond nodded and I shifted back to human form. I looked up to her with a tear-stained face. “Why?!?” Was all I could muster. “Why did he leave me too?” I wailed into her chest as she rubbed my back soothingly. She lifted my chin and looked me in my eyes. “Some people, especially men are not strong enough to live without their mate.” Her eyes proud and determined. I had never asked about my grandfather because my grandmother never seemed bothered by it. The look on her face spoke volumes to me. If she could do it then I could do it too. I stood with her help and we walked out of the room. I turned yo Lee. “I apologize for injuring your shoulder. I lost control and took it out on everyone.” Lee raised his hand to stop me. “You have no reason to apologize Alpha.” I looked to him confused and was about to say something when my grandmother turned me to her. “You are now Alpha due to your father’s passing.” I nod to her understanding. “I need to rest.” We will bury him in the morning. I return to my room and open the doors to my balcony. I raise my head to the moon and howled my sorrow to the Goddess. Many howls joined mine pained from the loss of their Alpha. I end my howl and went to bed. ‘Rest In Peace mom and dad.’ I thought as sleep consumed me.
