Chapter 6

Aurora POV

“Poppy, can this please be the last shop for today?” I asked with a little bit of tiredness in my voice as we had been walking around the mall for the last 5 hours going into different shops. I had only brought a couple of new outfits and some more books to add to my collection, I even managed to locate a 1st edition Pride and Prejudice in an old bookstore. “No Aurora, we still need to get you a dress for your party on Saturday.” She replied in a hurried voice as they approached the doorway of a large boutique that had the most beautiful ball gowns in the window and Aurora knew this was going to be painful trying on all these fitted dresses. As they walked into the boutique a tall, slim lady with chestnut brown hair pulled up in a tight bun, walked up and greeted them with a warm smile, “Hello Poppy, Aurora how are you today?” She asked both the girls who she had come to know whilst managing the boutique as they came in often. “Hey Maddy, I’m tired and really hoping this will be the last stop.” Aurora said jokingly whilst scowling at Poppy, who just rolled her eyes and walked past towards the brightly coloured gowns.

Maddy smiled and locked the door of the boutique to allow the girls time to shop in private and to rest a little, “Aurora, look at this one what do you think as the guest of honour?” Poppy asked holding up a stunning glittery pink mermaid tail gown with a corset back and a little train that flared out a little “Poppy is this for you or me as you know I’m not a fan of pink, I would agree that this dress would look perfect on you” Aurora replied with a little bit of sadness in her voice as she wished she could look as amazing in a dress like that the same as what Poppy could. Detecting the sadness in her voice Poppy walked up to Aurora and wrapped her into a big hug for a few minutes until Maddy walked in with two large cups of coffee. “Just what I need, thank you Maddy.” Aurora gratefully grabbing the cup from her hand and taking a big sip. “I think I may have the dress for you, its brand new and has only just arrived at the boutique, would you like to see it?” Maddy asked with a little bit of excitement. Both the girls sat on the little seats sipping their coffee in silence waiting for when Maddy returned with the dress.

After a few minutes Maddy returned with a garment bag placing it straight into the changing room, she turned around and looked at Aurora, who knowingly stood up and walked in ready to try this dress on. An audible gasp was heard from behind the closed door and Maddy walked out of the changing room waiting to see Poppy’s reaction to the dress and Aurora. “Will you hurry up and come out please!” Poppy shouted as there had been no movement since Maddy had left, slowly the door opened and out walked Aurora in the most gorgeous dress that was ever seen, Poppy’s mouth fell open whilst Aurora walked towards the large mirror to admire the dress in all its glory.

There she was looking at herself in the giant mirror that took up the whole of the wall, she couldn’t believe that she looked so beautiful, she always thought herself pretty plain but in this dress she didn’t or couldn’t she was being so torn in her own head right now. She was gently stroking down the soft material of the dress that was hugging her slender frame, it was a corset sweetheart neckline showing of all her curves and pushing up her breasts, this then flowed down into a lace skirt that fanned out when it hit floor causing a little flowing train. Due to Aurora being pretty tall the dress was the perfect length without causing her to trip when she was walking, the dress was a beautiful magenta colour which matched her natural hair colour, no one knew why she had both purple hair and eyes when she was born, the lace details were so delicate and intricate as it spanned all of the dress from the very top of the corset to the end of the train. Aurora was very much in love with it and started to have little tears in her eyes, Poppy stood up next to her and gave her a small side squeeze for comfort, “Aurora you look absolutely stunning, and this is the dress you need to wear to the ball on Saturday.” Poppy said with such kindness in her voice, “Poppy I would love to, but this is a little expensive on my small inheritance that I have left.” Aurora said nearly bursting into tears as this was the dress which she wanted to wear as she fell in love with it as soon as she tried it on.

“Maddy please can we take this dress and the pink mermaid style dress today, charge them both on the Queen’s account as I know she won’t mind since it’s a special occasion, Aurora don’t even think about arguing with me its done think of it as an early birthday present!” Poppy stated as she knew fine well that Aurora would start to protest due to the price. “Thank you, Poppy I’ll go change and can we please go home now.” Aurora replied with a big grin whilst walking towards the changing room. Poppy nodded towards her and went to grab the pink dress to hand to Maddy at the register for her to start pricing everything up and to place the dress in a box ready. As soon as Maddy had finished boxing the other dress Aurora came out of the changing room and handed her the dress to place in a separate box, she then grabbed a smaller box that looked very much like a shoe box and placed in on the stack on the counter. “Aurora, these are shoes to go with the dress and are a birthday gift from me, please don’t open them until Saturday as I want them to be a surprise.” Maddy said with a little love in her heart as these girls have been coming into this boutique since they were very small to get the gowns for all the royal balls they had to attend. Aurora nodded and gave Maddy a big cuddle before they both left carrying the dress and shoe boxes to the car.
