chapter 5

She had just stepped into her small shower two days later, after a long and exhausting day at work when Cassie heard loud pounding on her door. It was so loud it made her jump and bump onto the water dial accidentally turning it back to cold spray. "f**k f**k fuck." She swore as she turned it off. The pounding did not stop and it was so loud in her little apartment it made her want to kill whoever was knocking. For a second she thought maybe it was the police, they are known to pound on doors like that in movies. Cassie paused going through all the reasons the police would come looking for her "Cassandra f*****g open this door right now. I know you are in there. I heard when you came in." Linda yelled then went back to pounding making Cassie roll her eyes. Of course, it was her annoying best friend. Cassie quickly wrapped a towel around her body then went to open the door. She found her friend, fist still raised and mouth open to shout again. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Cassie shouted. "What the hell is wrong with you?" Linda shouted back. "I'm not the one banging on the door and screaming like I'm being murdered. Are you drunk?" Cassie snapped glaring at her friend. "Of course not I never drink without you." Linda retorted walking past Cassie into her apartment only to turn around and face her with her hands on her waist. " You know how I always say I hate tabloid magazines and all those celebrity gossips," Linda asked as she turned back to face her. "You say that all the time but you actually love those things, your apartment is a library of people's magazines and all the other crap," Cassie replied with an eye roll passing her crazy best friend to her sitting room. There was obviously no way she could go back to shower now. "Fine I do enjoy them but I do not believe in that crap. It is for my amusement if you must know." Linda tried to defend herself but they both knew she could not function with celebrity gossip. "I honestly do not give a s**t. All I want to know is, what the f**k does it have to do with you banging on my door and interrupting my shower? I came out wet and running thinking something is wrong." "This," Linda replied shoving a magazine in Cassie's face. When her friend just gave her a blank look she went on. "Take a good look at the picture on the magazine. Recognize that anyone or anything?" Cassie tried to look but for her life, she could not get what Linda was yapping about. "What. Did you find a boob job you want to copy? What is it this time?" She asked. "It's you. Imagine my surprise. Sat down today with a glass of wine ready to indulge in my daily gossip only to be hit smack dab in the face with that picture." Linda shouted pointing at her picture in the magazine. "Wait you had wine?" "Shush it. I would recognize that red mangled mane anywhere, heavens know I tried to copy that kind of red plenty of times." "Linda what..." Cassie started only to be cut off but a screeching Linda. "Shut it. You are dating a millionaire and you did not tell me." Linda screeched. She had gone from angry accusing to fan girl screaming in a flash confusing Cassie even more. Cassie tried to rack her mind to come with an idea as to what her best friend was going on about. She was completely lost. "I'm dating who?" she asked. "Oh my gosh. Just read the damn thing." Linda demanded shoving the article into Cassie's hands. Millionaire heartthrob in love. Cassie just read the heading, shook her head then handed the magazine back. "That's not me. I don't know who or what they are talking about," she told Linda. "So you didn't meet Jake Stone?" Linda asked folding her arms on her chest. "Who?" Cassie asked. " A rich hot guy." Linda rolled her eyes. "I did meet him bu-" "Did you or did you not kiss him outside your building?" Linda asked again. "Hey, he kissed me." Cassie defended. "Still a kiss. Did you or did you not go to the hotdog stand with him while holding hands?" Linda's questions we're starting to sound like an interrogation. "He dragged me there. I was still in a daze to register." Cassie defended. "So yes to all my questions then?" Linda asked. "No, it did not happen like that. I honestly do not know that Stoner guy. He just ambushed me." Cassie protested. Her friend could have passed for a prosecution lawyer the way she was going. She was making her feel like she had committed some felony offense. "Jake Stone. At least remember the people you have shoving their tongues down your throat." Linda reprimanded. "b***h please like you remember any of yours." Cassie shot back right away making Linda pause. "Point taken." Linda said with a shrug." But babe this is a millionaire and to top it off he is f*****g gorgeous. I mean I might not brush my teeth if he ever kissed me." "That's just gross," Cassie said giving her a grossed-out look. "The kiss was not all that." "You just said it put you in a trance." "No, I said I was in a trance from shock. You just romanticized the whole thing." "Go to hell with your judgemental fat arse. I bet the kiss was phenomenal." Linda snapped going to sit down on the couch. Cassie ignored the comment about the kiss."I'm going back to shower." "On a serious note, though your ass is huge, you should think about losing it a bit." "f**k off Linda," Cassie swore leaving her friend to cackle like the witch Cassie swore she was some days.
