The sound of my alarm going off woke me up. I hit the snooze button and stretched. I sat up and rubbed my face.
*How did I get in bed?*
Memories of last night came back, and my make-out session with Vince played like a music video. But how did I get in bed? I remember we were watching the last episode, and I must have fallen asleep. So did Vince bring me to bed? That was so sweet of him!
I climbed out of bed and walked into the living area. Vince was stretched out on the couch, fast asleep. He looked adorable sleeping. I stood there staring at him when behind me, someone cleared their throat. Rocky was leaning against a wall drinking coffee. He was already dressed for the day in his overalls. Rocky smirked at me and raised his eyebrow.
“Something you want to share with the class?” He asked softly.
I shook my head and darted back into my room. Rocky’s chuckles filled the hallway I had just exited.
I quickly had my shower and got dressed. It was 7 am, and I had to get a move if I didn’t want to miss my bus. Quickly grabbing a jacket and my bag, I headed for the kitchen. Rocky and Taylor were in there eating breakfast. I walked in and put my stuff on the counter.
“Morning” I started making a coffee.
“Morning,” Taylor replied.
“This girl was making googly eyes at your brother this morning” was what came out of Rocky’s mouth. Taylor laughed.
“Dude? Can’t you say morning and be normal?” I snapped back.
“Nah, what I said was more interesting. You should warn your brother Tay. This chick wants some of that” Taylor was laughing harder now, as I shot darts at Rocky.
“My girlfriend is allowed to stare at me, Rocky,” came a voice making us all turn at the same time.
Vince walked in, and he, too, was now showered and dressed for the day. He walked up to me and kissed my forehead. Then, he took the coffee from my hand and sat next to Rocky. The look on Rocky’s face was priceless. His jaws opened and eyes wide. Taylor and I burst out laughing just at his expression.
“He said girlfriend,” Rocky finally spoke.
“Yes, babe, he said girlfriend,” Taylor replied and walked over and rubbed his back.
“Wait, you knew?” He asked Taylor, and she laughed.
“Of course, I did, dumbass. I know everything” she winked at him.
Rocky frowned and looked at me.
“But why him? I’ve been trying for ages now, too, and you said yes to him?” He replied and pouted.
“Yeah, you’re far too complicated. No thanks,” I said, and everyone started laughing again. Rocky flipped me the middle finger and carried on eating.
“So it’s official then?” Taylor asked and wiggled her eyebrows.
I walked around to Vince, and he wrapped his arms around me, and I sat on his lap. This felt so natural and right.
“Yes, it is. I finally get to call her my girlfriend,” Vince bragged. I could hear the pride in his voice. It made me happy, and my cheeks went red.
“But no need to make a big fuss. Let us figure stuff out, and then you can tell mom and dad. Even though I know the moment I walk out of here, you’ll call them,” he chuckled.
Shit! Yes, she will. She won’t just keep this news to herself.
“Please, Tay. Don’t go saying anything just yet,” I begged, and I knew she wouldn’t refuse me. She groaned and nodded.
“If they get mad at me for not telling them, I will throw you under the bus” she pointed at us, and we nodded.
“Okay, kids, time for me to get going.” Rocky got up. He put his dishes away and grabbed his bags.
“Oh-oh! Can you drop me to work on your way?” I asked, quickly getting up to grab my things, but Vince held my waist and sat me down again.
“Babe, I can drop you to work. I’m about to leave to go back to Greenwoods now too.” He rubbed my arm.
“Okay, lovebirds, whatever. Vince, drive safe, and I’ll probably be seeing you more often now. See you later, man.” Rocky shook Vince’s hands, placed a kiss on my forehead, and gave Taylor a full-on kiss and hug.
“And he calls us lovebirds,” I said quietly, and Rocky flipped me the finger again and walked out.
“Okay, well, I’m going to get dressed and head out soon too. Rosy, please let your boyfriend use your bathroom next time. My girl time has been interrupted today.” She walked towards her room. Vince and I laughed.
“Hmm, maybe I can stay in your bed next time too” he winked at me, and I shook my head.
“Yeah, Nah. My bed is mine only. You can stay on the couch” I sat and got up to get another coffee for myself. I wasn’t ready for that step with Vince yet.
“Don’t make coffee. Shall we have breakfast before I go?” He asked. I nodded, pulled out my phone, and dialed Lilly’s number.
“Morning, boss. Everything okay?” Her chipper voice answered.
“Morning! Yes, fine. Can you please do me a favor? I’ll be a little late, and I think I have a meeting at 8:00 am. Can you please reschedule it for another time during the day?”
“Yes, sure, boss, no worries.” She replied, and I thanked her and hung up.
“Perks of being your boss,” I said to Vince and put my phone away.
He laughed got up and came towards me. He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close.
“How are we going to manage this? I’m going back today, and it’s not like you live 4 minutes away. You live 4 hours away.” He asked.
“Well, it’s still not too bad. We can see each other on the weekends. You come here one weekend, and I can come there the next weekend,” I suggested. “Keep in mind that I don’t have a car, so I’ll be borrowing your sisters” I laughed.
“Well, maybe this way she will come home more often to visit Mom and Dad,” he replied and chuckled.
“See, they will love me even more!” I replied and gave him a big smile. He smiled back at me and quickly pressed his lips to mine. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and we stood there for a few minutes, just kissing. I melted into his arms, and he tightened his arms around me.
My phone started to ring, so I broke away from the kiss, and Vince whined. I quickly looked at the caller ID. It was Blake.
*Why was he calling me this early?*
“Sorry, I gotta take this” I moved away from Vince. “Morning Blake, is everything okay?”
“Morning, Rosy. Sorry if I’m disturbing you, but Lilly just called to inform me that you’ve moved our 8 am meeting” he sounded annoyed.
Oh, f**k! Was my meeting with him!?
“Oh, I’m so sorry, Blake. I didn’t realize my meeting was with you this morning. Don’t worry, be in at 8 for the meeting. I honestly hadn’t checked who my meeting was with,” I replied and facepalmed myself.
“Oh, great. I’m going to Huntly this afternoon and need to catch up with you before I go. Sorry if I’ve interrupted anything,” he said, his voice still annoyed.
“It’s okay, Blake. I’ll see you soon. Bye,” and I hung up.
I turned to Vince, and he didn’t have a happy look.
“I’m sorry, babe, but I gotta go.” I walked to him and hugged him. He hugged me back and kissed my head.
“I’ll make it up to you when you come back in the weekend” I laughed, and he laughed with me.
“Something tells me my cars are about to be doing some good mileage” he laughed a little more.
I pulled away and grabbed my things, and we walked out. We got to Vince’s car, and he even opened the door for me to get in. The short drive to work was quiet. He held my hand the whole way and kissed it now and then. I blushed every time he did.
We pulled up in front of the Cooper & Co building, and he turned off the car.
“Text me when you get home” I picked up my stuff.
“Yes, boss,” he laughed. “Just like you're getting used to things with me, I’m gonna have to get used to things with you.”
I laughed and leaned over to kiss him. He cupped my face with his hands and caressed my cheeks. I was going to miss him.
“I’ll see you on the weekend then?” I asked softly.
“Yes, you will. I don’t want to go back now. If I had known this would happen, I would have taken some time off,” Vince replied. His eyes were holding me captive again.
“Well, if you wouldn’t have turned up, maybe I would have taken longer to decide to give you a chance.” I chuckled.
“Well then, glad I came to drop Taylor off.” he laughed. I leaned in and kissed him again.
“Drive safe and let me know when you are home” he nodded and let me go.
I got out of the car and watched him drive away.
Lilly was standing at her desk when I got to my office.
“Boss, I thought you said you’d be late,” she said, looking confused.
“Yeah, well, thank you for reminding me my 8 am meeting was with Blake,” I replied to her and walked into my office.
“s**t, I’m sorry! I thought you knew who your meeting was with.”
“It’s okay. I’m here now. Do you know what the meeting is about?” I asked her, and she shrugged. Just then, my office phone rang.
“Hello,” I answered.
“Hey, Rosy. Oh, good, you're in. Stay in your office; I’ll come there for the meeting” it was Blake.
“Oh, okay then. I’ll see you soon.” I hung up.
“Okay, so he’s coming here. Lilly, can you please get me a cup of coffee and something to eat? I didn’t get to eat this morning.”
“Sure thing, boss. Shall I wait for Blake and see if he’d like something?” She asked.
“You know what, yes, please. Let’s show Blake how we do things here in Sales and Marketing,” I beamed at Lilly.
Blake and I spent the next 4 hours in my office going through projects we had done where we had successes, and where we failed. How the teams I created worked and what their goals were. How we got new clients and all the rest. We also met the team that was going to organize the gala and had a catch-up about that. By the time we were done, it was lunchtime. Blake offered to buy me lunch, but I declined. Since he took up so much of my time, I had other meetings to get on with.
It was around 5 pm when I finally sat down and had a proper meal. I picked up my phone, and I had two messages from Taylor to say she would be home late, and that was all. Nothing from Vince. He said he would message. So I called him. There was no answer. Before I could put my phone down, I received a message.
* Hey babe, so sorry. I got caught up at work and forgot to message you. Just in a meeting right now. Call you soon* I smiled and put my phone down.
I was silly. We’re adults, and we get caught up at work. Look at me today. I was so busy I only got to check my messages at 5 pm. I had nothing to worry about. I didn’t, right?
Something still felt off, but I just shoved it to the back of my mind. Finally, at 6 pm, Lilly and I decided it was time to go home.
She walked me out of the building, and I went to catch my bus. On the bus ride home, I kept thinking about Vince. I listened to my music and let my head fill with thoughts of him.
I got off at a stop before mine and got Taylor and me some dinner before walking home.
Once home, I plated myself some dinner and ate while watching Vampire Diaries. I looked at the time when I heard the door open, and it was almost 8. I still hadn’t heard from Vince. This was expected, right?
Taylor walked in and plopped next to me on the couch.
“Wow, what a day it’s been,” She stretched her body.
“Hmm yeah. There’s some food on the counter,” I replied, absentminded.
“What’s wrong with you?” She asked, obviously picking up my mood.
“I don’t know. I think Vince is avoiding me, but then I think I’m overthinking this,” I replied and turned towards her.
“Okay, well, what makes you think he’s avoiding you?”
“He said he would message me when he got to Greenwoods. I got busy at work and only picked up my phone around 5. You were the only person that had messaged. So I tried calling Vince, and he didn’t answer, but I got a text saying he forgot to message me and that he was in a meeting and would call me soon. That was at 5 pm. I still haven’t heard from him. Is it normal for boyfriends not to message? Like, am I expecting too much?”
“Well, no, actually it isn’t, but then again, it’s Vince. He has lunch and dinner meetings with clients and sometimes just loses track of time. Why don’t you try calling him now and see what happens? I’m going to get some food.” She got off the couch.
I grabbed my phone and dialed Vince’s number. It rang and rang and went to the voice message. Was he avoiding me?
“Any luck?” Taylor asked, and I shook my head.
“That’s weird. Vince should have at least answered to say that he was busy and would call you back,” she said. “Okay, don’t worry. I’m sure he will call you soon. Let’s just watch TV.”
