Chapter 5

1614 Words
I packed my bags and looked over all my things, making sure I forgot nothing. It had been a week since Taylor left for Greenwoods. Rocky and I are driving down today to be with her for Grace’s funeral tomorrow. I have taken Friday off and Rocky managed to swap his jobs for other days. Taylor has called every day wanting updates about Blake. There honestly isn’t much to talk about. I literally only see Blake at work. At the end of the day, when I leave for home, Blake is still engrossed in files and paperwork. When I arrive in the morning, he is already there having meetings and catching up. After the lunch meeting we had in his office on Monday, the most we’ve said to each other is hello as we pass one another in the corridors. He did pop his head into my office on Wednesday to ask how Taylor was doing. Once I explained the funeral was Friday, and she was as good as could be expected, he hurried out to take a phone call. Since we were going to be working so closely at work, he probably thought it was in his best interest to stay on my good side. To be honest, I’ve stopped caring. I’ve never let things like this bother me before and I never will. Now that I’m more aware, I’ll keep my distance and not fall for his friendly trap again. A knock on the door pulls me out of my thoughts. Rocky must be here to get me. I zip up my bags and carry them to the door with me. Pulling open the door, I let him in. “Rockz, does Taylor need anything else?” I ask as I turn around to grab my handbag and keys. “I’m not sure if she does,” says a familiar voice that doesn’t belong to Rocky. I turn around and Blake is standing in the doorway. He’s still wearing his suit. God, he looks good in it! “Blake, what are you doing here?” I ask. It’s a little after three and I really didn’t expect him to be anywhere but in his office shoving his nose buried in files. “Well, I scheduled to have another catch up with you today, but when I asked for you, I got told you had gone home early and wouldn’t be back till maybe Monday. Then I remembered you said the funeral was on Friday. So I thought I’d come to say goodbye, and I brought these for Taylor.” He says and picks up a little basket that has some flowers and chocolates. f**k, that was sweet of him. “Aww, that’s sweet of you. She will love it. From what I’ve heard, she’s already drowning in chocolate,” I say, laughing. Blake laughs along with me and it makes my insides vibrate. What is happening to me? Since when do I act or feel like this? The lift dings, and Rocky walks out. He sees the basket in my hand and a smirk forms on his lips. “Don’t even start getting ideas! These are for your girlfriend,” I point out to him. He laughs. “First, she’s not my girlfriend, and second, that’s sweet. She will love it.” Rocky looks at Blake. “Hey, man, nice to see you again. Rosy said you’ve been working hard. Didn’t think I’d see you for a while.” They give each a little man hug. Damn Rocky! The things I tell you are never to be repeated! “Ahh yeah, man, just busy at work. Have a few things that need to be sorted out so grandad makes me work like a monkey. There’s a lot to do here though. I might be at this location for a while. So when you guys come back, maybe we can have some drinks or something,” he says casually. That reminds me. “Hey, Blake. Saturday night, a guy was banging on your door. He had 3 other people with him and was pretty angry when you didn’t open up,” I say, handing my bags to Rocky. “f**k sakes. I’m gonna say he had blonde hair and looked a little like me?” He asks and rubs the back of his head. I nod. “Yeah, if you ever see him again and he asks about me, just say you don’t know my whereabouts and to f**k off,” he laughs. “He’s my twin brother. Zero interest in life. Loves to drink and party and sleeps in a different bed almost every night. He must have heard I was here.” “Ahh right. Okay, well, I will let him know if he ever comes around again,” I say, closing the door behind me. “Keep out of trouble while we’re gone,” I laugh. Rocky has loaded up the lift for us. “We’ll do drinks once we’re back, man. It’ll be nice to have a guy around, to be honest. These girls are doing my head in,” he says, causing me to smack his arm. I turn, and Blake is standing there with his hands in his pockets, smiling at Rocky and me. f**k, the guy looks hot! Why did he have to show up today like this and stir up emotions again? As Rocky drives down the highway, I look at the surrounding greenery. I usually see these sights once a month, but since I’m here, I might as well kill two birds with one stone. “Rockz, do you think I could borrow your car for a few hours tomorrow? I won’t be gone long. Taylor has a spare one if you do need it while I’m gone,” I ask him, not making eye contact. “Rosy, you don’t have to go see her, you know,” he replies. I can feel his gaze on me. “I know, but it has to be done. So can I borrow your car?” I finally look at him and he nods. The drive to Greenwoods is four hours long. Rocky stops at a highway diner for us to have some food. He’s hungry since he picked me up straight after work. “So gorgeous, tell me. Blake making you feel horny?” He asks, and I choke on my milkshake. “You’re an ass!” That's all I can manage to say while coughing and trying to breathe. He laughs at me and wiggles his eyebrows. “I don’t know about horny, but there’s definitely something brewing,” I reply honestly. I can talk about my feelings with Rocky. He isn’t the kind of guy that’s afraid to listen to a girl’s sad story. He gives good advice and is honestly interested in knowing what’s wrong. “But you don’t like what’s brewing, do you?” “Not really. I don’t want something brewing with him; he’s my boss. He’s a billionaire and I’m a small piece to his massive empire. I don’t wanna get involved. Besides, he’s too shiny. He will attract attention, and that’s the last thing I want. I’ve happily hidden all these years and I wanna keep it like that.” I reply, fiddling with my straw. Rocky knows exactly what I’m talking about. He knows everything. “Well, I know this isn’t like you, but no one said anything about getting involved. He’s here for a few months and then he packs up and ships off. Have some fun. What’s the harm in that?” I know he’s no longer joking, and he has a point. “No way am I losing my virginity just because a hot guy moves across the hall,” I snap at him and he laughs! “You and your bloody virtue! Why so innocent Rosy! f**k, you’re twenty-eight! Let loose, will you!” He’s right. My virtue means the world to me. I don’t know why, but I’m proud that I’ve kept it this long. Blake obviously doesn’t need to know this, but what’s the harm? I thought to myself. We finish up and start our drive again. An hour later, we’re parked in front of Taylor’s family home. It’s massive. Mr. and Mrs. Callum are filthy rich. Mr. Callum is a neurosurgeon, and Mrs. Callum is a partner and co-owner at a law firm. They had generational money as well. Taylor’s grandparents owned a lot of the real estate in Greenwoods. There is a whole suburb named after them. Taylor has both an older and younger brother. Taylor’s older brother Vince is very attractive. Not as much as Blake, but he’s something good to look at. Taylor’s always saying I should just get with him and become her sister-in-law. Vince is a lawyer and partner at his mum’s law firm. He also rocks those amazing suits. A few years back, he expressed some interest in me. I explained to him I wasn’t interested because if something went wrong, it would ruin my friendship with Taylor. It was a risk I wasn’t willing to take. His reply “I wouldn’t let anything like that happen”. He’s very sweet and honestly, I know he’d keep me happy, but I just can’t take that risk. Every time I see him, he tries in some way. Flowers, chocolates, driving me around, taking me for dinners and lunches. The funny thing is, he still does all that, even after I rejected him. I haven’t seen him in a year though and he’s still single, as Taylor mentioned. It will be interesting to see him again.
