It was around 5:30 pm when Lilly walked into my office. “Boss, time to go home,” she said. She already had her bag and jacket in her arms.
“You in a rush?” I asked, smiling at her.
“Yes, actually. I have a date. You know, where you go out with a boy and have a nice time?”
“Ahhh, one of those! God, I didn’t even know they existed,” I replied and laughed. I got up, turning off my computer and grabbing my jacket.
“You sure you don’t?” She tilted her head.
“Lilly, nothing is going on with Blake and me. We live in the same building. It’s called carpooling.” I replied and turned off the lights in my office.
“Yeah, okay, I totally believe you,” she was being sarcastic.
I closed my door and we started to walk towards the lift.
“Well, it’s what it is, so I don’t know what to tell you.” I stopped in front of Blake’s office and knocked on his door.
“Coming. 5mins” he replied.
“Right, having the CEO wrapped around your little finger is normal, then? We all see it, Rosy.” She replied and checked the time on her watch. “Hey, I gotta go. You’ll be okay?” I nodded, and she waved and walked to the lift. I watched her get into and then the doors closed.
I didn’t have him wrapped around my little finger. He was just a very sweet guy.
I walked into Blake’s office, and he was hunched over the back table with folders open in front of him.
“So everyone’s talking about us,” I said and plopped down on the sofa.
“Really? What are they saying?” He asked but kept his head down, studying his files.
“That something's going on with us. That we are involved,” I sighed.
“Hmm, well doesn’t sound like you want something to be going on, so make something up to keep them from snooping,” he replied.
Was he being serious? He has been annoying me for the last 3 weeks about marrying him, and now he is showing a mean attitude. Was he tired of asking?
I got up and walked over to him. He was very engrossed in the file. He didn’t have his jacket on, his tie was sitting on his table, and his sleeves were rolled up. He only did that once he was done with the day. So many things I’d noticed about him recently.
I put one hand on his shoulder and gently rubbed it. “You don’t seem to be in a good mood,” I said, and he turned around to look at me.
“I’m sorry that was mean. I didn’t mean it that way.” He rubbed his face. “I’m just tired today. I feel hot and stuffy and have a massive headache. I think I may be getting sick.”
“Well, let’s get you home then. You have been overworking yourself,” I turned around to grab his jacket and tie. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him.
“Is it such a big issue if people think something's going on between us?” He asked.
“Blake, you're my boss and a wealthy man. Do you know what it looks like when a small town Sales and Marketing Manager gets into a relationship with a wealthy CEO? The word is gold digger,” I replied and moved away from Blake. I turned around and grabbed his jacket and his tie and turned off the table lights.
“You’re not a gold digger, though.” his voice was soft.
“I know that, and you know that, but the world won’t look at it that way, Blakey.” I walked over and grabbed my bag from the sofa. “Come on, let’s go. We can get some dinner on the way.”
He nodded and grabbed his phone and keys from the table he was working on.
We got some Chinese food from our favourite place, and by the time we got home, Blake was sneezing and coughing more. He had definitely come down with a cold. He went straight to his bedroom to change, and I plated some food for us to eat. I made him a honey and lemon tea and got him some medicine.
When he wasn’t down in 15 minutes, I put all the stuff in a tray and headed towards his room. I never went upstairs; I never needed to. All I knew was that there were 2 bedrooms and a storage cupboard. I went up the stairs and walked down the hallway towards the open door at the end.
“Blakey,” I called out. There was no answer. Did he go to sleep?
The door was open, so I peeked in and couldn’t see any movement. I walked further in, and his bed was still made, but he was nowhere to be seen. The suit he was just wearing was lying on the bed. Blake’s room was very tidy. He had a massive bed facing towards the beautiful view and an office table set up with a computer and his files in a corner. There was a small coffee table and 2 single-seater couches right next to the ranch slider that went out onto the balcony. I subconsciously walked towards the balcony.
“You okay, Rosy?” Blake’s voice came from behind me and startled me.
I turned around and there stood Blake in nothing but a towel around his waist. As my eyes scanned Blake’s naked body, I felt my mouth go dry. The last time I had seen him this naked, I had made out with him in the middle of Taylor's lounge, and just like I had that night, I couldn't stop staring at his perfectly toned body.
He had his arms stretched up, drying his hair with a second towel, and that stretched all the muscles around his chest and torso. He had a tattoo of a howling wolf on his left shoulder that was bigger than my hand. The wolf was howling at what looked like a moon and had barbed wire circling around it. There was another tattoo across his right collarbone as well, but I couldn't make out what it was.
How had I missed that tattoo last time? Maybe it was because I was too busy gawking at other parts of his body to notice the ink on his body.
My eyes went from his chest to his abs and then down to that distinctive V line that disappeared under that towel that hung way too low. There were water droplets all over his body, and I was sure I was drooling. This guy wasn't just sweet, he was out of this world hot. I sucked in air and realised that my mouth was wide open.
Fuck what was I doing?! I quickly looked back up and closed my mouth. Blake had a smirk on his face.
“Can I ask if you’ve seen a guy naked before?” He chuckled a little.
“Well, I have seen you in a towel once before, if that counts?” I asked and placed the tray on the edge of his bed.
“Not the kind of naked I had in mind,” Blake snickered.
“Okay, well then, define naked.” I crossed my arms and bit my lip.
“Why define it? I can show you,” he put the second towel on his shoulder and reached down for the towel around his waist.
“NO! Don’t do that!” I yelled, “No, no, I have not seen that, so please don’t.”
Blake started laughing, and his laughing turned into coughing.
“Yeah, that’s why I came up. I thought you’d gone to bed. I brought you food and some honey lemon tea. It will help keep you warm,” I pointed to the tray.
He walked over to a door on the far wall and opened it. It was his closet. He walked in, and I turned around to face the view again. If I thought the view from my side was nice, this was way nicer. I walked out to the ranch slider and just stared out to the horizon.
I heard Blake sneeze behind me. I turned, and he was now wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants.
“Have you eaten?” He asked as he picked up the tray. I shook my head.
“Come on, I’ll go back down and eat with you. I’ll go to bed after that. I don’t want you eating alone.” See what I mean, I was just so damn sweet.
I knew arguing with him was just going to make things worse, so I walked out of the room and down the stairs. Blake was right behind me with his tray. I got to the counter and plated myself some food, and sat on the barstool. Blake sat next to me and started eating.
He coughed and sneezed the entire time. I grabbed him some water after he was done, and he took his pills.
“You need rest. No work! Straight to bed and stay there. I don’t wanna hear about work until you're feeling better.” I scolded and put the dishes into the dishwasher.
He just stared at me and smiled.
“What?” I asked, confused by his look.
“You might as well be my wife.” He chuckled.
He wasn’t wrong. The way we were, it did feel like a relationship. I knew there would be consequences if I went ahead with this. I had just been kicked out of my best friend's life; could I afford to have something like that happen again? I had just started to get comfortable with Blake.
“Can I meet your family?” I blurted out.
Blake’s eyes widened. Why was he so shocked? Did he not want his family to know?
“Yes, of course you can. What’s brought this on? You changing your mind?” He sounded happy.
“Not changing my mind, I would rather get this rejection thing over with before I get too comfortable with you. I mean, living here with you is great, and honestly, I want this to work out, but I know that just like Taylor’s family, any good reputable family would be against their son being with someone with a past like mine. I would rather just tell them and get it over with, so you can get it through your head that this isn’t going to work. If you still want me staying with you after that, is your choice, but I want you to see this marriage thing isn’t going to work.”
Blake started laughing, “Oh, babe. You have no idea what you're doing.” He had recently started calling me babe a lot. He got up and walked over to me until I was standing between him and the counter. He put his hands on either side of me and held on to the counter.
“I’m telling you, no one is going to have a problem with this. You are gonna go there to meet my family and are going to end up getting engaged to me before you come back. So, really think this through. I know you’ve got this master plan, but I’m not joking when I say my parents will go watch your mother's show with you.”
Was he serious? The Coopers were very, very rich and popular. Society would eat them alive if they found out their daughter-in-law's mother was a prostitute.
Blake started to cough, so he turned his head and put his forehead on my shoulder. Anxiety started to rise in me. Images of that night with Vince flashed, and I quickly pushed them away. Since that night, I have had anxiety about any guy touching me, even the slightest bit. I was okay around Rocky, and now I was getting used to Blake, but I still got clammy and anxious every time something happened. Blake wouldn’t do anything like that. I may not have known him long, but I could trust him.
“First, you get better. Then we can talk about this more. For now, go to bed,” I ordered, and he chuckled. He leaned forward and pressed a kiss on my forehead.
“Goodnight, Rosy. Please really think about this. I’m being serious. I won’t keep annoying you, but I do hope you change your mind,” he said and walked back to the stairs. He stopped at the bottom and turned back, “You are not a gold digger, and rest assured that I will break the face of anyone that says that,” he smiled and walked up the stairs.
What is wrong with this boy!? Whatever it was, he was growing on me. I was starting to like his behaviour. Was this going to bite me in the ass like Vince ?....
