Prologue and the beginning
Prologue A slight silvery mist surrounded them. The couple was staring at each other while holding hands. Everything was silent around them, only they and the mist existed. "What is this? Where are we, Dinah?" The man asked. "My dearest husband… This is your dream. You are sleeping safely in our bed." Dinah answered. "My dream… So nothing of this is true?" The man continued. "Why wouldn't it be true? Because it's a dream? Who decides what is true and what isn't? Maybe our dreams are true and so called life is just our imagination…" She answered. The man frowned his eyebrows at her answer. "That sounds silly, Dinah, even childish. Everyone knows that." "However you want it to be, my husband. Let's use our short time more wisely than arguing. I have something important to tell you." Dinah said and lifted his hands closer to her. She caressed his knuckles gently and kissed them slowly. "What is it, Dinah? What do you want to tell me?" She sighed a bit and touched his cheek with her hand. "There isn't an easy way to tell you this, sweetheart… When you wake up you'll notice that I've continued my journey." "Continued your journey… What do you mean?" "My illness has won, my dearest. I'm dead. You will find me lying lifeless next to you." Dinah said and a lonely tear was falling down on her cheek. "No. That can't be true. You are standing here, right in front of me! How could you move and speak if you are dead? No. I don't believe you. I simply won't." Dinah looked over her shoulder almost like there was someone else with them. "Give me a little more time. He's confused and I need him to understand everything." "Who are you talking with? There's no one else here than you and me." "It's irrelevant, sweetheart, don't think about it now. Just listen to what I have to say to you… Do you remember when we realized that we were in love with each other? We had grown up together and our bond was very strong even when we were just kids." Dinah smiled while saying that. "Yes, I do remember when we confessed our love to each other, but that wasn't the time when I realized that I loved you. I had loved you from the first second I saw you sitting on your father's shoulders. I knew you were meant to be with me." Dinah smiled even wider. "Yes, husband, I fell in love with you at the same time. I was just too shy to say it out loud before we were older but I felt it too. You were mine and I was yours and that is what I wanted to talk about with you." The man just stared her with questioning eyes. "I've learned something after I passed away. The time is different after death. For you it has been just a short moment but for me… it is just different." Dinah said and continued then. "We are soulmates, my love. We share the same heart." "The same heart? What does that even mean?" "You don't need to worry about that, sweetheart. All you need to know is that our lives are connected in a way nothing can break. Not time or place. My death is just a short break when we aren't together but I will find you again. No matter how long it takes, I will find you. We are soulmates and we are drawn to each other. If I won't find you in the next life, then I'll find you in another one. All you need to do is wait. We will be together again, my love." Dinah said and looked over her shoulder again. "It's almost time, my husband. I need to go soon. Try not to miss me too much, trust that we will be reunited. Our love is eternal, the flame burns forever. We are we, forever." She continued and kissed the man. Their kiss was full of passion and their bodies connected with each other like they were one person. The mist surrounded Dinah and the man felt like she was slowly vanishing in thin air. "Dinah! Please, don't leave me! Please..." He yelled with panic in his voice. "I love you, always." . . . . . The beginning Damien I looked closely at the girl who was lying on the hospital bed. She had dark black hair and her skin was almost as white as porcelain. She would have reminded me of those old fashioned porcelain headed dolls which children had back in the 19th century unless she didn't have a stitched wound on her left temple. Her eyes were now closed but he remembered how their eyes had met for a few seconds before she lost her consciousness. Green, almost emerald like stones, had stared at him confused but not scared. Normally people were at least scared if not horrified when they faced Stefano, but not this girl. Or a woman, I corrected grimly in my mind after my eyes wandered lower to her big breasts. A hospital gown was never a flattering outfit but this mystery woman couldn't hide her figure even if she wanted to. Her breasts moved slowly up and down while she breathed lightly and suddenly I felt something moving inside of me. I realized that I wanted to touch this woman, kiss her pale lips until they got some color back and make her open her mesmerizing green eyes. Without noticing I had taken steps closer to the bed and touched her cheek with my hand. The touch felt like a thousand lightning had struck on me and I lifted my hand quickly away. What the hell was this? Woman shivered a bit, probably because of my cold hand, but didn't seem to react otherwise. I stared closely at her until someone knocked on the door. "Excuse me, sir. It's starting to be late and she really needs to rest in silence. You can come back tomorrow if you like, she should be feeling better then." Short and slightly elderly nurse stood on the door, smiling radiantly at me. I smiled back at her and thanked her for this favour she had done for me when she let me see this woman I had brought to the ER earlier. I might have bended the rules a bit because I knew the nurse couldn't have done anything else than what I had asked her to do. Humans could never resist our demands and they would always do as told, sooner or later. I took a last glance at the mystery woman and walked out of her room. I had other things to worry about tonight but I'd return back tomorrow to get some answers.
