On her eighteenth birthday, in front of a thousand wolves, Naya Voss gets rejected by her fated mate.Kael Ironclaw is the future Alpha King. Naya is an omega at Silvermoon, the girl who carries the trays and keeps her mouth shut. When the bond slams into place between them at the Harvest Moon Gathering, he cuts it in front of everyone. No pause, no second thought. A rejected omega loses her rank, her protection, and her seat at every fire in the North. Most of them don't last the winter.Naya laughs. She knows something Kael doesn't. She isn't just an omega. She's the daughter of the man Roderick Ironclaw murdered to steal his throne, and the rejection was the last thing her wolf needed to wake up.And her wolf is huge. She's been waiting eighteen years for this exact night.Thrown out into the snow with nothing, Naya gets found by Dorian Vane, a rogue Alpha with no pack, no crown, and no fear of the King. He gives her a roof, training, and the first real choice anyone's ever handed her. He has no idea who she is. He just knows the girl who laughed at her own ruin is the most dangerous thing he's ever seen.Meanwhile the bond doesn't die. It changes. Kael feels what she feels now, her fear, her calm, and eventually her total lack of interest in him. He can't sleep. He can't let it go. He starts watching from a distance, unable to stay away and unable to take back what he did.Down south, the Alpha King hears that a rogue omega with a wolf too big for her rank is alive somewhere in the north. He's chased a rumor for eighteen years, and now he has a name. He doubles his patrols and sends riders to every crossing. What he doesn't know is that she's his own brother's daughter, and that his enforcers are bound by a blood oath that answers to her line, not his crown.Naya isn't planning to run forever. She trains through brutal weeks until she can hold a shift for a full hour. She finds her mother hiding in a rogue camp. She learns her father is alive, chained under Ironclaw Keep, kept breathing for eighteen years so the King can bleed him to feed his own power. She learns Kael has a cousin he never knew about, a secret ally, and a spy inside his father's court. Then she goes back to Silvermoon. She invokes the Cast Out's Right and challenges the Alpha who threw her away in front of every wolf who ever called her nothing. She nearly loses. Her wolf turns it around, and with her teeth at his throat, she takes the pack. Her first law as Alpha: no cast out wolf gets turned away from Silvermoon's fires again. Now the tables have flipped. The King's son asks for an audience. She makes him wait. But the Alpha King has a hostage and a deadline. In three nights he moves her father to a deeper cell. Naya has to choose between the throne she was born for, the man who never deserved her, the rogue who taught her to fight, and the father she's never met. Every choice costs her something, and every road leads back to the keep under the throne. The Alpha King's son threw her away. She's going to take the Alpha King's crown. And when she finally walks into the room where her father has spent eighteen years dying by inches, the whole North is going to find out what happens when a rejected omega decides she's done being small.

The Girl Who Laughed
Kael Ironclaw stopped three steps away from her, and the whole hall stopped with him. Naya knew before he opened his mouth. Everyone did. When the heir to the Northern Throne crosses a room to stand in front of an omega holding a tray, that's either a miracle or an execution. There's no in-between with wolves like him. She'd never once been lucky, so. The bond hit her first. Not a feeling, really, more like getting hit. Something slammed into her chest, a fist closing around her heart from the inside. Cedar. Snow. Cold iron. His scent just... flooded her, and some voice that wasn't hers whispered mine from somewhere under her ribs. The goblets on her tray started rattling. Took her a second to realize it was her hands doing it. "Mate," someone breathed near the doors. The word went hand to hand through the crowd like a struck match. Her? The omega? Naya Voss? The Harvest Moon Gathering had packed Silvermoon's hall to the rafters, lanterns on every beam, alphas up at the high tables, betas along the walls, omegas by the doors where the draft cut in and the food always arrived cold. Naya had been standing in that draft since dusk, carrying other people's wine on her own eighteenth birthday. Nobody had remembered. Why would they. Other girls heard their wolves at thirteen. Naya had only ever gotten silence… an empty room in her chest that all of Silvermoon had already decided meant weak. So she carried trays. Kept her head down. Learned a long time ago that small was the only kind of safe she'd ever get. Now every eye in the place was on her. Kael was taller than the stories said. Black hair, eyes like a winter blade, a face that looked like whoever carved it forgot to teach it how to smile. The Alpha King's son. The wolf every pack in the North had already decided to kneel to. He looked at her and for one second the mask slipped. She saw it… shock, hunger, something close to fear… then it shut again, fast, like a door closing on a lit room. Behind him stood Selene Ironclaw, his betrothed. Pale gold hair, hands folded, face still as a frozen pond. Naya expected triumph on her. What she got instead, just for a flicker, looked a lot more like terror. At the high table Alpha Garrick Thorne was half out of his chair already, watching her the way you watch a problem and not the way you watch furniture. That scared her more than anything else in the room. "Naya Voss." Kael's voice carried without him even trying. "Omega of Silvermoon." Her own name in his mouth felt like a hand closing on the back of her neck. "Before the Moon and before these packs, I, Kael Ironclaw, son of Roderick, heir of the Northern Throne... reject you as my mate." It didn't sound like words. It sounded like a blade coming out of its sheath. "My father forbids the match," he said flat, and final. "The throne doesn't kneel beside an omega. It's done." Then the bond tore. Ripped out of her like a rope dragged through her ribs. The tray hit the flagstones. Wine ran between the stones like something had spilled open, not just spilled. Her knees begged her to go down. She locked them anyway. If she was going to be destroyed she'd at least do it on her feet. The world went white and thin at the edges, and the whispers in the hall reached her like they were coming up from the bottom of a well. Poor thing. Won't last a week, that one. Somebody near the front actually laughed. Everyone knew what came next… rejected wolves lost rank first, then protection, then their place at every fire in the North. The lucky ones died fast. Naya had grown up on those stories. The ones whose wolf just... went quiet. The ones who didn't get back up. She waited for the pain to finish the job. It came. God, it came. But underneath it was something else. Small. Precise. Unmistakable. Click. Like a lock turning in a door she never even knew was there. Naya lifted her head. And she laughed. It started low and cracked and wrong, a sound like something breaking rather than something funny. The hall went so quiet she could hear a lantern hissing on the far beam. Then it caught… rose… turned into something real. Free. Terrible. Not afraid of a single thing in that room. She laughed till her ribs hurt, wine on her shoes, her name in ruins, a thousand wolves staring at her like she'd finally lost it. Maybe she had. She really didn't care. Because for eighteen years something in her had been holding its breath. And it had just let go. "Enough!" Garrick Thorne's voice cracked across the hall. He came down off the dais, jaw tight, and stopped in front of her. "Naya Voss. By the law of Silvermoon and the Moon's own witness, you're stripped of rank, of pack, of protection. Be gone before the moon sets." The thin silver band on her wrist, the omega mark she'd worn since she was five, split down the middle and dropped to the floor. It rang once against the stone. Nobody bent down to pick it up. "Thank you," Naya said. Garrick blinked. "...What?" She wasn't even looking at him. She was looking at Kael. Her voice shook, but not the way anyone expected it to. "I mean it, sincerely. Thank you." Something moved across Kael's face… the mask cracking for real this time. His hand came up to his chest, fingers pressing flat over his heart, like something in there had just shifted. She knew what he was feeling. Didn't ask how she knew, just did. Not the pain… that would've made sense. The other thing. Spreading through her like water into dry ground. Calm. His eyes went wide. He felt it too. She held his stare and saw herself reflected back in that grey. Her eyes had gone gold. "What are you?" Kael whispered. The hall started to stir, mutter, shift. Selene had gone white as bone, mouthing some word Naya couldn't catch. Over by the far wall, an enforcer in Ironclaw black had gone completely still. His hand pressed flat to his own chest… same spot as Kael's. Then he turned and slid out through the side door, quick and quiet, like a man carrying news he didn't want to get caught holding. Naya smiled at him. Small. Sharp. The first honest thing she'd ever shown an Ironclaw. And somewhere behind her eyes, in a space that had been empty for eighteen years, a voice that wasn't hers said one word. Finally.
