Chapter 18

Kelly’s P.O.V

I had everything set up at the barn, a few of my high school friends of mine offered to help set up in exchange for free drinks and food. I text Rachel, one of my good friends and she said everything was ready to go. I let Glynn and Henry know that it was time to go and I text Dr. Scott to make sure he was still meeting us there. I had a few girls that so invited that were single so that it would be mixed company. I wanted to show these city boys just how we did things here. I quickly got ready as I heard Glynn and Henry talking in the hallway. I exited and I heard a gasp as I exited. I was wearing jeans shorts with a belt buckle with a shirt tied in the front with my cowgirl boots ready for dancing. “ You look amazing “ I hear Glynn say as I looked at him, he has cleaned up pretty nice in starched jeans and a white button down shirt. Henry was dressed in similar attire and whistled at me. “ Come on, let’s go” as I grabbed both of their arms and led them down to the SUV.

I was nervous and excited at the same time, as we pulled up to the barn. It was illuminated with mason jar candles everywhere and there was a small path from the parking area to the entrance of the barn that was lit up by tea lights. It was romantic yet an endearing view at the same time. “ Wow, you did all of this?” Glynn said as I got out of the SUV. “ Yes, with the help of some friends” as I could hear the country music already blaring through the thin barn walls. Glynn and Henry followed behind me as I met up with Rachel, a short brunette with a curvy figure. “ Hey girl, glad you finally made it!” She beamed as she hugged me. I introduced her to Glynn and Henry, as I watched Henry eye her up and down. I elbowed Henry and winked at him and he just shook his head. As we entered the barn, there was a huge open dance floor that Mac had converted a few years ago. The bar was to the left and bar top tables to the right where some of my friends were sitting alongside Dr. Scott and some of his colleagues. I walked up to him and he hugged me tightly, “ This place is amazing…” he said as I just stood there in awe of his manly scent and his handsome features.

Glynn’s P.O.V

As I watched Kelly interact with Dr. Scott, my blood began to boil. I didn’t like the way he was touching her and she was eating him up. I nodded to Henry, “ going to get a drink, you want one?” “ Yes” and he followed me as the bartender asked for our drink order. “ So you and Kelly huh?” Henry smiled at me as I just shook my head. “ Yeah I wish” “ Well, from one guy to another. You staked your claim in front of me, I suggest you do it for him as well” he pulled on his beer. I drank my whiskey and nodded at him, it was time to claim what was mine.

I walked over to Kelly as she had moved over to some girl’s about her age and was laughing and having a good time. “ Oh Glynn, this is Rachel and this is Allison” as I looked at the girls and smiled. They just giggled and I put my arm around Kelly. She looked up at me and I winked as she just stood there talking and reminiscing about high school. As I hung out with them, I watched as Dr. Scott was watching us. So I then decided to make my move as I heard a dancing song come on. “ Hey you want to dance?” I whispered into her ear and I felt her shiver in response. She looked up at me, “ Yes” as I took her hand and lead her to the dance floor. She yelled out, “ Hey Rach, ask Henry for a dance!” As she pointed to Henry who was still standing at the bar and Rachel nodded as she walked right over to him. They came out on the dance floor as the song, “ Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” by Big and Rich and Kelly took the lead.

Kelly’s P.O.V

I could tell that Glynn was a bit unsure of himself even though he asked me to dance. I thought it was a sweet gesture and wanted him to see how we got down in the country. Glynn took the lead as we got on the dance floor and I must say that I was impressed. “ Well look at you” as looked deep into his eyes as he swung me around while keeping up to the tune. “ Surprised are we? Well I’ll have you know I took dancing lessons when I was younger, trying to pick up all the ladies you know?” He joked with me as he winked at me. I just shook my head and laughed as we two stepped along the floor and then a faster song came on and we started to do a waltz and I felt like I was flying against him as he held me close. The way he held me, the music, atmosphere.. everything just felt so right. He looked down at me, “ What is it Darlin’?” As I felt a lone tear fall down my cheek and he stopped us in the middle of the floor, to caress my cheek with his thumb. “ I don’t know, I’m just so happy in this moment, I don’t want it to end” as I pulled away from him and ran into the bathroom.

I ran inside and quickly washed my face off, as Rachel followed behind me. “ Hey girl, everything okay?” “ Ya, I guess so” as she came up and started to wash her hands. “ That Henry fella sure is nice. But the one you were dancing with, isn’t so bad either.” I chuckled, “ Yeah he is something” as I dried my hands off. “ Look, if you need anything, I know we haven’t been the closest but I’m here for you. I know it’s been hard with your mom being gone, but know we are behind you one hundred percent with trying to keep that land safe from development.” She said as she grabbed my arm and we walked out together as Glynn and Henry were waiting for us at the bar.

“ Hey Darling” as Glynn pulled me in close and handed me a beer. “ Thanks” as I pulled it to my lips and drank. “ So, you ready to get out of here?” He asked me and I shook my head. “ No, Darlin’ the night is just getting started” as I ordered shots from the four of us and had the bartender set them up. We all clinked our glasses and the hot whiskey went down our throats. I grabbed Rachel and Glynn and headed towards the dance floor once more.
