Chapter 4

Glynn's P.O.V. As I watched Kelly walk back towards me, everything in my body was watching her as she moved effortlessly through the bar. She was beautiful in every since of the word and she was funny as hell. She was giving me a hard time, which I didn't mind but she kept me on my toes and I liked that about her. I had girls who were easy and to me that's no fun at all, give me something to work with then I'm definitely interested. " So you don't drink?" I asked her as Ginger had set down her sparkling water with lime and I had a beer. She had a sour look on her face, " No, prefer it that way" she said as she grabbed the menu and I did the same. There was tension but I was determined to keep her talking. " So you lived here your whole life?" " She took a sip of her drink, " Yes born and raised. You?" " From Dallas, my parents split up after my mom left and went back to London. America wasn't for her" She looked at me, " No offense but what kind of mother leaves her kids?" " Not sure actually but we had a live in Nanny, Sylvia that took care of my brother, Griffin and I so it all worked out. Do you have any siblings?" " No, only child. Which is probably best" she said the last part quiet enough I wasn't sure if I was supposed to hear it or not. Ginger came back and we ordered our food and the conversation lightened up a little bit about us getting to know each other. The food arrived and as we were eating she asked, " So I am curious, how did you find that spot?" Kelly asked. " Well my company develops subdivisions and that spot is the perfect place for it." Kelly's demeanor changed, she threw her napkin down into her burger basket and got up from the table and left. I was dumbfounded, was it something I said? Kelly's P.O.V Not that my night couldn't get any worse but it just did. The one safe place, the one happy place I still had was going to become a subdivision for some rich people from Dallas. " Ughh.." I groaned as I went into Mac's office. He had a couch in the corner and I sat down on it and started to cry. " What's wrong dear?" Ginger came in and asked me. " I just can't catch a break, I have nowhere to go and I'm just lost " I said as the weight of everything of tonight just came down on me. " We have an extra room at our house, you know you're always welcome there" she said. " I appreciate that, I don't want to impose. "Nonsense, you know you always have a place with us Kelly " she said as she hugged me. She was a tough woman on the outside but a gentle soul on the inside . " Thanks, I promise I'll earn my keep" I said as she helped me stand back up. " Of course dear, as long as you help us out here I'm not worried about it" as she gave me a side hug and went back out into the bar. I peeked out to see if Glynn was still around but I didn't see him so I went towards the bathroom. As I was about to enter, Glynn came out of the men's room and just looked at me. " I'm sorry for whatever I said to upset you. I would like to make it up to you, here's my business card in case you want to take me up on my offer. It was nice to meet you Kelly" he said as he handed me his card and walked back out towards the bar. I stood there for a moment dumbfounded. I never had any guy be such a gentleman towards me, I walked into the bathroom and took care of business. As I walked out, I looked for Glynn but he already left. I walked up to the bar where Ginger was cleaning up, " That handsome fellow you came in with sure knows how to tip, he left me $100. Even on a good night, I'm lucky to make that much" she said. " Yeah, he sure does" as I pulled his card out of my back pocket and put his number in my phone. I had it just in case, you never know. The next morning I woke up in Mac and Ginger's house, it was quiet and I knew I didn't have to be at work til noon. So I went ahead into the kitchen and grabbed a cup of coffee while I scrolled through social media. As I did, I noticed I had a friend request from Brent Tucker, my ex boyfriend who was supposedly going Pro. I just ignored him, since I didn't want him to think that I was going to be one of those girls that just fawned over him , since he made it big. " Good morning" I heard Ginger say as I mimicked her. " How did you sleep?" " I slept well, thank you" " aww good, I hope Mac's snoring didn't keep you up?" No, I was out, kind of a heavy sleeper" I said as Mac walked in and kissed her on the forehead. " I heard that Ging" he said as he waved at me. " So what's the plan kiddo?" he asked me as I got up and helped start breakfast. " Well I'm only one class away from finishing my CPA so I am going to see if they will let me finish it online due to the circumstances". Mac looked at me, " I'm sure they will. You're a smart kid" he said as I helped Ginger and him make breakfast. I had been over here many times as a kid when my mom was still alive, Mac and my mother, Jenny were thick as thieves except when he met Ginger on his wrestling tour. They had still kept close in contact and Ginger was nice enough to let us come over from time to time. We idly talked after we finished breakfast and my phone kept going off. " Who's that?" Mac asked. " My father..I'm ignoring him" I said as I sent him to voicemail. " What happened?" Ginger asked and I gave her the rundown and it took both her and I to keep Mac from going over there and beating his a**. " I swore to Jenny I would watch over you, what has gotten into Daniel? " " Drinking too much, can't keep a job. There's a whole list" I said as Mac and Ginger just shook their heads. " I'm sorry to hear that" she said as I just shrugged. " It is what it is, hopefully things will be looking up from now on" I said. We all left together to go get ready for Saturday night at Mac's bar. The cooks had already prepped everything for the lunch crowd and there will still some families on the lake enjoying the last parts of their summer. It went pretty smoothly being my first day and I quite enjoyed it. It was about 5pm and the dinner rush decided to come in and I was working with Aaron as he helped me get the run down of everything. " So as soon as you finish making this drink, clean this blender out so that it will be ready for the next order" he said as he professionally mixed up two different types of daiquiri's in one motion. I had worked behind the bar before, but my skills weren't as professional yet as Aaron's but I had hope with some more practice. A few young girls came in and started flirting with Aaron as he shouted out their drink orders. As soon as I passed them to him, a man's hand went out and touched mine as I turned around toward's the bar. " Good evening, Kelly" said the man who I was trying to stay away from. Glynn's P.O.V. This day has been hell, I thought that getting all the permits would be a breeze but the EPA somewhat has been a hiccup. I knew that Griffin could help me with it since I wasn't at the office. " Listen, whatever it takes to get this going, it needs to be done" I told him. " I got it boss" he said with a laugh. " Okay, I'll talk to you in the morning, you better have a good report" I told him as I hung up. I was hard on him but I had to be if he was going to be successful. I looked at my watch and it was already almost 7pm. My stomach growled and I grabbed my keys and headed toward's Mac's bar and grill. I pulled up and the parking lot was fuller than last night, but I was still able to find somewhere to park. As I got out I could hear loud music playing, which sounded like a band. I opened the door and there were people everywhere but as soon as I looked towards the bar , there stood Kelly. She was in a black spaghetti strap shirt with ripped jean shorts showing off her tan long legs. I saw a few guys watching her as she expertly threw the liquor bottle in the air and caught it while pouring it in a glass. I was mesmerized that I didn't realize I was standing in front of her as she finished. " What can I get you sir? " she said as she then turned to me and smirked. " I need a burger, fries and a beer" I replied to her. " Is that all?" she smiled at me. " No, I want your number too" I said boldly. " Ha, get in line buddy" she said as she walked off and her a** looked delicious in those shorts. An older man came and sat next to me," City boy, she is off limits" he said to me as he pulled a shot back and tapped it on the bar. " I think she is old enough to say whether or not she is off limits" I said to the man. " Well, I'm warning ya" he said as the years on him had been hard and his hands were stained and worn. " Thanks for the kindly advice" I said to him as I took a sip of my beer. " It wasn't advice" he said as he got up and left me. I just watched Kelly as she maneuvered down the bar. I was going to do whatever it took to get her number tonight.
