Chapter 2

1019 Words
Glynn's P.O.V. 5 hours earlier "Jackie, can you set my appointments back till next Tuesday? I'm going to be checking out the new property in East Texas that we've just acquired for the weekend". " Yes, Sir" Jackie said as she walks in with a short business skirt, and white blouse with the top buttons undone. She is beautiful but not my type, she has short black hair that bobs and hazel eyes. I've thought about it a time or two but my work place is a strict environment and don't plan on going down that road. " Thank you" as she hands me the printout of the land we just acquired near Lake Cypress, Texas. It's a beautiful piece of property that is nestled about two hours east of Dallas and is just perfect for the subdivision I plan on building for colleagues and friends of mine. We've had this in the plans for the last five years and I've finally been able to purchase the land. " If you need to reach me, sir. I will be available at any time" she purred at me. " That will be all, Jackie" I said dismissing her as she nodded and closed my door. I stood up and looked out among the Dallas Skyline, my office had prime view of the downtown area and I enjoyed watching the traffic on the street below. The Worthington group was a combination of Real Estate, Investment and even Petroleum factories. We had a wide spread of everything, thanks to my Father, Everett whom came to this country and worked non stop to build this company. My younger brother , Griffin and I worked tirelessly to follow in his footsteps but yet it has never been good enough. It was already 2pm and I was done with everything, so I decided to head out. " Griffin, I won't be back till Tuesday, make sure the interviews for the new CPA goes as planned. I don't need anything to screw this up, especially when it comes to taxes" Griffin just grunted, " Yes sir, anything else your majesty?" " Shutup Grif, this is serious. I'm giving you a chance at this" I said as I got into my new lifted Jeep Wrangler. " Yes I will" he said as he hung up. I shook my head at my brother, he could be such a pain but he was loyal to a fault. I drove off downtown and hit I30 east towards East Texas. As I exited off nearly two hours later, I stopped off at a nearby coffee shop and grabbed a latte through the drive thru. I'd been here before, but never this early in the day. As I headed to my cousins house on the lake, I enjoyed the scenery as I drove. The rolling hills with pine trees had hidden treasures that many people didn't know. Between the farmland of cattle and chickens, the area had a vast majority of hunting available as well. I arrived at my cousin Bradley's place he uses during the summer, but it was empty due to school starting back for his kids. He had specifically made this place for himself as I walked into the open layout which was simple yet functional. The fridge was stocked as I quickly made me something to eat. I grabbed a beer and sat on the outdoor porch, listening to the sounds of nature all around me. After dark, I decided to venture out towards the land I just acquired. It was a short drive from my cousin's house, the almost two hundred acres was going to be perfect. It was a hidden gem nestled in a grove of trees with open land and a small lake that fed off from the big lake not too far off from here. I walked down towards the small lake and just laid down on a nearby rock watching the stars. I must have dozed off as I heard tires approaching. I got up and quickly ran back to my Jeep as I saw another Jeep pulling up. I walked around my Jeep as I saw a young woman looking inside mine. As I went to get closer, I grabbed her instead so she wouldn't scream out and boy was she a fighter. After introducing myself, she was still wary of me. She tried to lie and say her name was Kay but I saw her shirt with the name Kelly on the back, and she was quite a spitfire. She was gorgeous too once I saw her in the moonlight and I didn't want to let her go at the moment. Kelly's P.O.V I just looked at him dumbfounded, " What do you mean by that?" He took a step back and put his hand through his short spiked hair. " Your beautiful.." he whispered out. " haha... you're funny. You're not the first man to spit out words like that to me. Just leave me alone" I said as I walked away and went to go sit out on the rock that my mom and I used to play by when we came to this place. I watched him from afar as he came towards me and I tensed up. I had plenty of guys who tried dating me and there had only been one that had caught me. But he decided being a football star was more important so here I was, left behind in a small town while he was playing college ball and possibly going Pro. I tried to shake away the hurt of him leaving when Glynn came back up to me. " Listen, I don't want to get off on the wrong foot, please accept my apology. I never meant you any harm" he said as he stood beside me as I was sitting on the rock with his hand out. " Okay....I guess so" I said waringly. The fight with my father, now being homeless, meeting Glynn, I just didn't have the urge to fight anymore. I was tired and I wanted some peace.
