Connor’s prediction held true. The British government released a report in April exonerating the British troops from wrongdoing in the Bloody Sunday shooting. Those present at the march that day, as well as the video footage shot by journalists, had a different take on the facts. The resentment in Ireland multiplied on the heels of the report, especially when more British soldiers were sent to the island.
Connor was livid when news of the report broke but soon resorted to a sorrowful withdrawal.
