28 Visiting Annagassan. 25 July 1972. When Connor remained unaccounted for by the end of the weekend—Emilee had phoned and cycled down to his apartment twice on Saturday and twice again on Sunday—she gave up her Monday morning classes without a second thought. She went straight to the faculty office and insisted on urgently meeting with the English department head. Refusing to back down, she remained standing in the outside office until the secretary gave in and granted her an opening. Emilee requested a leave of absence with immediate effect, claiming compassionate leave, to visit the O’Hannigans in Annagassan.
