33Perdonna’s black Bentley Bentayga sped down the FDR Drive, carrying Cecil and Ava. It was a race down the edges of Manhattan. On one side, skyscrapers towered into the clouds above. And on the other, a waterway twinkled with ferries and reflective golden lights. It felt like flying. Dingy yellow taxis sprinted by them like angry hornets. Every loud honk was a stung person screaming. The Pepsi-Cola sign took over the view, a stop sign among the rainbow skyscraper lights scattering across the water. It was almost magical.
