THE CRAZY LOVE Chapter One — The Unexpected Encounter The rain had started before sunrise. By seven in the morning, the streets were already filled with cars, puddles, and impatient drivers. Katie hurried along the pavement, clutching her handbag tightly as she tried not to ruin her shoes. She checked her phone. 7:48 a.m. “Oh no.” Her interview was at 8:30. Today was supposed to be the beginning of something new. After months of searching for a job, countless applications, and more rejection emails than she could remember, she had finally been invited for an interview at one of the biggest companies in the city. Kings Corporation. Katie couldn't afford to lose this opportunity. She reached the entrance of the enormous glass building and quickly checked her reflection in the glass. Her hair was still neat. Her white blouse was still tucked in. Her skirt was slightly wrinkled, but nothing too terrible. “Good enough,” she whispered. She pushed through the revolving door. And immediately crashed into someone. Her handbag slipped from her shoulder. Papers scattered across the floor. “Oh my goodness!” The man standing in front of her didn't move. He looked down at the papers around his expensive shoes before slowly looking at her. He was tall, dressed in a perfectly fitted black suit. His expression was cold, almost emotionless. “You should watch where you're going.” Katie stared at him. “I’m sorry?” “You heard me.” She bent down and began gathering her papers. “I apologized,” she said. “But you could also watch where you're standing.” The man raised an eyebrow. Clearly, he wasn't used to being spoken to that way. Katie picked up the last paper and stood. Their eyes met. For a brief moment, neither of them said anything. There was something strange about his eyes. Dark. Sharp. Intimidating. Then his gaze fell on the folder in her hand. INTERVIEW — MARKETING DEPARTMENT “You're here for an interview?” he asked. “Yes.” “Which department?” “Marketing.” He nodded once and walked away. Katie watched him disappear into the elevator. “What an arrogant man,” she muttered. She checked her phone again. 8:03 a.m. “Forget him.” She hurried to the reception desk. “Good morning. I'm here for an interview.” The receptionist smiled. “Name?” “Katie Williams.” The woman typed on her computer. Then her expression changed. “I'm sorry, Miss Williams. There has been a change.” Katie's heart dropped. “What change?” “The interview panel has been changed.” “To who?” The receptionist looked toward the elevator. “Mr. Jason Kings.” Katie froze. “Jason Kings?” The receptionist nodded. “Mr. Kings will personally conduct today's interviews.” Katie's stomach dropped. The name was familiar. Everyone knew Jason Kings. He was the young billionaire CEO of Kings Corporation. Brilliant. Successful. Extremely private. And, according to the stories Katie had heard, impossible to impress. She suddenly remembered the man from the entrance. His black suit. His cold expression. His voice. Katie's eyes widened. “Oh, you've got to be kidding me.” “Miss?” “Nothing.” Katie forced a smile. “Nothing at all.” Five minutes later, she stood outside the CEO's office. Her palms were sweating. She knocked. “Come in.” That voice. Katie opened the door. And there he was. The man from downstairs. Jason Kings. He sat behind a large desk, looking through the papers she had dropped earlier. He slowly raised his eyes. “You.” Katie stared at him. “You.” A faint smile appeared on his lips. It wasn't exactly friendly. “Take a seat, Miss Williams.” Katie sat. Jason placed her application on the desk. “You're late.” Katie frowned. “I arrived before the interview time.” “You were supposed to arrive thirty minutes early.” “That wasn't mentioned in the email.” Jason leaned back in his chair. “I don't need to mention everything.” Katie took a deep breath. “I apologize.” “Tell me why you want this job.” Katie straightened. She had prepared an answer. But somehow, sitting across from Jason made every rehearsed sentence disappear from her mind. “I want an opportunity to grow professionally and contribute my skills to a company where I can learn and make a difference.” Jason studied her. “You sound rehearsed.” “I prepared for the interview.” “So you memorized an answer.” “No.” “Then give me an honest one.” Katie hesitated. “I need a chance.” His expression changed slightly. “A chance for what?” “To prove myself.” Silence filled the room. Jason picked up her résumé. “You have excellent academic results.” “Thank you.” “Your previous employer says you were hardworking.” “Yes.” “But you resigned after eight months.” Katie's expression became serious. “There were circumstances.” “What circumstances?” “That is personal.” His eyes narrowed. “You're applying to work for me. I decide what is relevant.” Katie felt irritation rising. “With respect, Mr. Kings, my previous employer has nothing to do with the position I'm applying for.” Jason stared at her. Most people were afraid to disagree with him. Katie wasn't. He leaned forward. “Do you always speak this boldly?” “Only when I think I'm right.” A small smile appeared on his face. “Interesting.” He closed her file. “I'll see you tomorrow.” Katie frowned. “Tomorrow?” “You're hired.” She stared at him. “What?” “You heard me.” “I got the job?” “Yes.” A huge smile spread across her face. “Thank you so much, sir.” “Don't thank me yet.” Her smile disappeared. “Why?” Jason stood. “Because if you disappoint me, you'll be gone before you know it.” Katie nodded. “Understood.” She reached for the door. “Miss Williams.” She turned. “Yes?” Jason's expression was unreadable. “Next time you bump into me, don't apologize.” Katie frowned. “Why?” “Because I don't think you were sorry.” For a second, she simply stared at him. Then she smiled. “Maybe I wasn't.” She walked out. Jason remained silent. He looked down at her résumé again. Katie Williams. Something about her bothered him. He couldn't explain what it was. She wasn't like the other people who worked for him. She wasn't intimidated. She wasn't trying to impress him. And she certainly wasn't afraid to challenge him. Jason leaned back in his chair. “This could be interesting.” He had no idea that hiring Katie Williams would become the biggest mistake—and perhaps the greatest decision—of his life. Because sometimes love doesn't arrive quietly. Sometimes... love arrives like a storm.
