How can a sixteen-year-old girl act normal in front of people if she constantly hear voices in her ears. It all started as feelings; there were times months ago that she would feel like someone's watching her. Then, it got worst. There is this voice that kept telling her not to go. She already contacted a medium, talked to a paranormal expert, nothing. No one can help her figure out what is happening to her.
Every time she looks at her parents, she can see the pained expression in their eyes. They think that she's experiencing hallucinations, or worst, she's showing signs of auditory schizophrenia. As the days pass by, her parents' beliefs is becoming more and more realistic to her. There are days that she almost considers going to a psychiatrist by herself, because thee voice is getting louder. She's beginning to experience difficulty focusing on what is real.
"Keisha, Braeden is here, honey." It's Saturday, and they don't have classes. Her long-time boyfriend, Braeden Scott, promised to visit her. These past few days, because of the coming basketball tournament, he became so busy. They would see each other of a couple of hours because Braeden was too exhausted.
"Just let him come up here, Mom. Thank you!"
Sleep is the hardest thing to achieve for Keisha nowadays. Everything she close her eyes, there's this icy cold presence breathing beside her ear. It's like this presence is purposely driving her crazy. Sometimes, she would stay up all night, crying. Of all the people in the world, why her? That's the question that's bugging her mid everyday.
"Hey, babe. How are you doing?" Braeden's concerned voice coming from outside her room interrupted her thoughts. He's leaning on the wall with his arm's crossed.
"Hey, how's practice?"
"Oh, com on. Don't do that." Braeden complained.
"Do what?"
"That. You're acting like everything is fine. I'll try to ask you a question, then you will answer me with another question trying to change the topic. Can't you just be honest with me? Tell me that you're not okay, because I know that you're not."
"Oh, baby. I don't even know how to explain to you what's going on with me."
"Are you kidding me? Have you forgotten who you're talking to? There is nothing that I will not understand about you. I love you, you know that, right?"
Keisha stared at her boyfriend's eyes. She knows how much he loves her. The way he cares for her, how he understands everything about her. She knows in her heart that she can trust him. But, how can she make him understand her situation, if she, herself, can't understanding what's happening to her?
"Something's happening to me, Braeden. I don't know, I think I'm going crazy. I can hear this one voice, and it's telling me not to go. But, I don't even know where! My parents think that I'm having some kind of breakdown, everyone in schools thinks that I'm crazy because of what happened in Gerald's party. I think I'm losing my mind, babe. I don't know what to do anymore. I–"
"Hey, hey, come here." Braeden immediately walked towards her when she started crying. He even closed the door to make sure that her parents won't hear sobbing. "You're not going crazy, Keisha. Listen to me, anyone who says otherwise, show them to me. I'll break their noses. Seriously, I don't think your going crazy."
"If I'm not going crazy, then what is happening to me? I've talked to two mediums, three psychics, and one paranormal expert. None of them could figure out what's going on with me."
"I think you're just so exhausted for studying very hard. Here's an idea, why don't we go out? Have a date. We haven't done that in a while."
"You're lucky my parents like you, because if they don't, you wouldn't even get the chance to stand in front of my bedroom door."
"Well, what can I say? I'm adorable."
"I can't argue with that."
"So, what do say? Let's get out of here?"
"I don't to ruin the night for you."
"Well, then let's stay here, and we can discuss what is really happening to you. I know something's wrong, babe. So, please. I'm begging you, Keisha. Talk to me."
"You'll think I'm a freak or that I'm crazy."
"I've always known you as crazy, that's why I love you."
Looking at her boyfriend's eyes, somehow, she felt better. She knows that even though Braeden doesn't understand what is happening to her, he will still listen and try to understand. That's one of the things that he loves about him. In his young age, Braeden has a wide understanding of things and an open mind.
So, she decided to tell him the truth, and she didn't hold. Keisha observed her boyfriend's reaction the whole time. He didn't even flinch. He listened to every word she said. Somehow, she felt like the weight she's been carrying lighten up. It was different when she talked to Antoinette about it. Her friend means well, but it felt like she only entertained her because they are friends, like it was her responsibility.
"Oh, my God, babe. Are you serious about that? You're really experiencing that?" He asked with a worried look in his eyes.
"For months, I've been having these weird feelings, like I'm not alone, or someone's watching. And then, the whispers started. I think I'm losing my mind."
"And, these whispers, it's telling you not to go?"
"Yeah."
"I don't think you're losing your mind, babe. Maybe, you're about to go somewhere that you shouldn't, and this is some kind of a warning, you know."
"Go where, babe? I don't even have any idea whatever it is that whisper is trying to tell me."
"Promise me, you won't go anywhere until we figure this out, okay? Promise me."
She nodded as a response. Even though she has no idea about what that whisper is trying to tell her, maybe it's better to be safe than sorry. Besides, she has no plans for the upcoming days. She thought that it's better to stay in the house.
