Prologue
BANG!
Then came the spluttering, shaking and lurching of the small black German car that was moving at the speed of a crawling turtle in central Bangkok. The explosion came from the front of the car followed by the sound of a flat tyre rubbing against the tarmac. The driver gripped the steering wheel tighter as the car began to shake while letting out a sigh that had worry and frustration rooted in to the soul of it, the eighteen year old had just passed his driving test three months ago and was already cursing the car that his father had given him. Rain began to panic as the horns around him sounded. He looked out of the car where the storm battered down on his car. "s**t! What happened to my baby? “he cursed while trying to dial his father's number. "Don't rush me! Don't rush me" He repeated trying to calm himself down.
"What do you have to do first?" He asked himself while praying still frantically searching his mobile phone for the number he needed. "OH" realisation swept over him. "Tell me what the heck happened?" He could hear his father scolding him; he knew that this was going to be the end of him. His father was going to kill him. "Turn on the emergency light first." Rain's brain immediately processed and he reached for the signal. As soon as he saw the lights flash on his dash board he began to relax, but he knew that he could not stay where he was. The car behind realised what was happening because he signalled to manoeuvre around Rain's car.
He was stuck with his car in the middle lane; Rain's heart was racing and beating so hard that he could hear it in his ears. He knew it was going to be impossible for the rookie driver to prop the car up in this rain. He was trying to move the car to the side of the road but the storm was growing and the downpour became so heavy that you would be drenched to the skin in seconds; each drop that hit Rain's windscreen was as large as a cartoon tear. As the droplets dropped onto the windshield Rain was becoming more and more agitated until he had to stop himself from raising his fists in anger. "Damn!" He yelled in frustration. He wanted to get out the car and shout towards the sky that he was in enough trouble and to help him out.
By this time the car behind Rain knew what was happening but Rain was still sat in the car trying to figure out what to do. The only thing he could do in the situation was to call his beloved father. "Papaaaaa, Helllpp meee!" He cried while reaching for his phone. Before the call could connect there was a knock at his window. It made him jump, as he trembled he turned to see the male figure in a black leather suit, the helmet that had a fire pattern coming down the side. He saw the lights that were lighting up the helmet. Rain panicked and thought that the man was very domineering and threatening. Rain knew that he couldn't drive away the way he normally would in this situation. His car wheels were torn and he couldn't go anywhere. The fear and stress of the situation overwhelmed him and he tears started to fall from his eyes. He couldn't help but cry.
KNOCK
KNOCK.
The man that was standing outside knocked harder and pointed towards the wheel that had burst. "OH SHITTING f**k"
"Eh?" Rain replied confused as he couldn't make out what the man was saying. He was wearing a scarf over his face and the window made whatever he said muffled to the point of incoherency. He pressed the button to lower the window so he could make out what was being said.
"There is a side road ahead, move the car over there and I will check the tyres for you!" The male advised.
"Really?" The surprise and happiness was apparent. He knew that his eyes had widened with the excitement of being able to go home. He nodded and did as the bike rider requested. The man in black turned to try and reduce the stress of the cars behind and suggested they put on the emergency lights to indicate to all the drivers behind there was an issue. Rain couldn't help but smile over the male helping him. "Wait" He told himself. "What if he hijacks the car?" Rain kept reminding himself that he had to be aware that he may not be as nice as he seems.
He had seen the news of a robbery earlier in the week on LINE. His mother sent these things to him every day and secretly worried that one day it would be him. Rain tried to comfort himself that the man in black might not be a bad guy. He also realised there was a lot of cars around and that he would be safe with lots of witnesses. Even if Rain called his Papa now it would be after midnight before he got there. He would take the risk and hopefully the bike guy would be a nice and decent guy. "Will I survive this bike guy?" The man in black walked up to the driver's side of the car and bent down to check the tyre. He knocked on the window which left Rain startled. "Yes Phi?"
"Your tyre is punctured" He started. "Do you have a spare?" Rain didn't trust the man in front of him but he was helping him so he would see what happened. Rain looked at the man again and couldn't help but think that he wasn't the headstrong robber that his mother had convinced him of. Rain walked to the boot of the car and pointed to the spare tyre and all the tools needed to change it. Rain couldn't help but panic because he didn't know how to change a tyre, all of this equipment belonged to his father.
"Do you know how to use these Phi?" He asked politely.
"Have you ever changed a tyre before?" Rain couldn't help but look to the floor with worry on his face. "So that's that" He muttered and glanced at the rain that was barrelling down onto him. "You wait in the car, the rain is meant to get worse." He told Rain. "I will take care of this for you."
"But....." Rain tried to interject.
"If you stay, you will be in the way." The man in black snapped at Rain. Rain couldn't help but want to reply for him to teach him. He lost his nerve when he saw the sharp gaze looking back at him. The rain was very heavy and he was getting soaked through. So he followed instruction and got into the car. Rain could feel the car being raised easily and could hear the whirl of the machinery lifting the car. The downpour was getting heavier and not letting up, Rain could only look anxiously out of the window and feel guilty that the man was still stuck in the rain. He had a leather jacket that was waterproof but his head and trousers were not so he had to be soaked to the bone. Rain looked back and reached to grab the umbrella that was sat on the back seat of his car. He climbed out of the car while opening the umbrella.
"Even though I can't help you change the tire, I can hold the umbrella so you don't get wetter than you already are...." Rain was nervous speaking to the man. "Is there anything I can help you with?" He asked timidly while bowing his head. He was worried about the man and held the umbrella out to cover him from the rain. The biker guy had already taken out the old tyre and had already lifted the new tyre into place. The man in black looked up to meet Rain's eyes which he hadn't thought for himself. Rain couldn't help but think the man was smiling because he eyes had softened and he reached to take off his helmet.
"Could you hold this for me?" The man in black asked while holding out his helmet. Rain quickly reached for it and held it close to his body. He watched as his saviour tightened the bolts. He couldn't tell what he looked like apart from him being a very large man, but large in a good way. He had very broad shoulders and when he moved the screwdriver his pectoral muscles that were visible moved with him. The dark hair that fell when he took off his helmet was long enough that it was tied to the nape of his neck. He definitely had the sultry, savage manly aura and look to get people's attention.
The story of the man in black being a robber had been wiped away from his head. He only had thoughts of being thankful and that the man in black was sooo cool. The big man drove a super bike and knew how to change a tyre. God he was manly!
Rain glanced back at the beautiful super bike, while glancing back towards the man who was still on his knees in a torrential rainstorm. Rain couldn't help but think that even though the guy was a bit fierce he was nice. I mean how many times was Rain going to meet such a good person in his life. A smile began to creep across his face. He realised that the smirk that had formed turned into a broad smile. "Thank you very much Phi" Rain started. "If you hadn't helped, I don't know what I would have done."
"If you want to drive" The man in black started to scold. "You should learn to take care of the car as well. So don't just learn how to drive so that when you face a problem you can solve it." The smile that was on Rain's face quickly disappeared as his feelings turned sour. "Alright, it's done." Although Rain couldn't help but be upset about being scolded, he was grateful that the car was back on the road. He was going to let the words go in one ear and out of the other, to forget them. He was excited to go home, take a shower and sleep. The man in black removed the jack and stood to his full height which made Rain feel dwarfed. The man turned around and Rain couldn't help but focus his attention on the man's his face. The sharp male turned to meet Rain's eyes and he became nervous not knowing what to say. "Move back, Nong" He told Rain. "I'll take the tyre and keep it for you." Rain took a step back and couldn't do anything but stare as his saviour flipped the tyre. "Can I have my helmet back?"
"Soooo Handsome" Rain let slip. Rain couldn't help but look up at the man who towered over him. His eyes were as sharp as a hawk on the prowl, when you coupled that with the dark eyebrows, prominent nose and thin lips within the sharp frame that his face, Rain couldn't help but want to shout that he was a real man. Rain wondered how much someone would pay to have this dark handsome man possess them. "If I was this handsome I would flirt with any girl."
"Thanks." The handsome man muttered suddenly bringing Rain out of his delirium. When he came back to reality it was like someone had slapped him. Rain had to remind himself that the man on the bike was a stranger. He was stood in the thunderstorm raving like they were friends when in reality Rain didn't know the man. When the man in black smiled at Rain his heart hitched.
"Thanks for the compliment but I was asking for my helmet back." Rain froze when the handsome face leaned in and almost touched his cheek. He was so shocked that he almost pushed the man backwards. As the wind changed direction Rain's nose was filled with the manly scent that the bike guy held. Why did he dodge him? Rain asked himself. He realised that he knew and he was trembling with the realisation. The man stood fully and put his helmet back on, this made Rain's chest release some of the nervous tension he was holding and he could breathe easier. "As for you" The bike man started again. He had Rain's full attention. "Try not to blow another tyre on your way home. You should head back soon its really raining heavily. Hopefully you won't get sick". Rain nodded quickly and tentatively but was frozen on the spot. "Get in the car!" The man in black demanded "Hurry, I am in a rush too"
"Yes" Rain muttered. It took him everything to speak his mouth was dry. "Thank you" He told the man again as he climbed into the car stuffing the wet umbrella in the passenger's side foot rest. He looked in the rear view mirror to see the handsome man straddle the beautiful superbike but he hadn't left yet. He thought the man was looking directly at the car as he climbed onto the bike and waited, before telling himself that he was imagining things. However he did realise that if he didn't move his car then the man on the bike wouldn't be moving either. He quickly started the car and drove off with his eyes twinkling and the smile beaming across his face that he couldn't help. He looked in the rear view mirror to check he was clear to pull out and the man raised his hand goodbye before his bike roared to a start and pulled away.
"Dammit!" Rain shouted excitedly. Why did he feel that he just met his hero riding a white horse? But this was way cooler than a white horse because Rain's hero was riding a Ducati Superbike. What a man? How cool was he?
