1. Familiar Dreams.

I groaned slightly as my alarm rang incessantly, I reached over to turn the frustrating son of a b***h off but ended up pushing it off my night stand. It fell down in a crash and I knew I would not be able to sleep again, neither would I hear the last of it. "I'm up, I'm up," I yelled and threw my hands up when my brother pushed my bedroom door open. "Mistress destroyer is at it again this morning I see." He said gesturing to my alarm clock on the floor. Thankfully it was made of a hard substance and did not break. "You didn't knock Jay," I yelled at him. "I could have been naked," I said again and hurled a pillow at him when he smirked at me. Fortunately for him, he was a good brother and was trying to help me pick up my alarm clock from the floor and so he was saved from my pillow strike. My name is Jade Forester and I am going to be eighteen years old soon, actually, we're going to be eighteen years soon. I'm a twin and my nosy twin brother is Jayden Forester. I have lived in California for most of my life, but I will be moving to Florida soon because my mother got herself a job at a fancy hospital there. I am basically an ordinary girl, I am tall and slim but I do have hips and an average size bust. My hair is auburn most of the time, but who knows, I may decide to dye it anytime soon, I hear Florida is the place to try new things. My eyes are green which is rare in my family because my mother had blue eyes and so also does my brother, you would see that I didn't mention my father, that's because I don't really know him, he died when I was four years old and it had been me, my twin and my mother ever since. I don't really recall the color of his eyes but from the pictures I have of him, they seem to be brownish, hazel-like eyes. Growing up, I was the loner of the twins. My brother is so handsome, he has had girls pining for him since middle school, but he's a good guy, isn't into all those player shits while me also very beautiful because duh we're twins, almost identical except for the color of our eyes and our gender. I didn't have it so easily in middle school though, because I was a late bloomer, one time I almost died because I was trying to fit in and when miraculously I survived and came back safe with a sign on my neck, I knew that I would never fit in and I stopped trying. By high school, I had fully bloomed, but I was no longer interested in being that girl. I found being outside the box easier and unique so I kinda stuck to it. My life changed and I had an epiphany when I returned from summer camp, that was three years ago, I was barely sixteen then, I had an accident I don't quite recall but I was saved by one of the teachers. When I woke up in the hospital, I had a big strawberry scar on my neck, or was it a kind of mark? I can't tell. I pushed my worries aside and got out of bed, I left Jay in my room complaining about the mess I had made and helping me to clean up by the way as I made my way downstairs. A familiar aroma hit my nostrils and my mouth watered, mom was preparing her famous bacon and cheese sandwich, it was my all-time favorite breakfast and sometimes lunch because cafeteria food sucks. "Hi, Mom." I greeted and propped on one of the long kitchen stools. Our home was a basic five-bedroom duplex for a family of three and my mother could afford it because of her job, which was going to get fancier when we move to Florida in a few months. "Hi hun, sleep okay?" My mother asked and I was in awe of her southern accent. Right, forgot to add that, my mother is from Texas, she met a Californian professional surfer and fell in love, unfortunately, she did not get to live happily ever after because he died about six years after they got married. I wished I had a southern accent, I try to mimic my mother sometimes, but I just can't seem to hack it. "Yeah." I drawled and gave her a peck on the cheek and she just laughed, this was one of the times when I could not hack the southern drawl. "Are you ready for school, young lady?" My mother asked and flapped my hand when I tried to eat a cookie from the cookie jar. "I'll be done in twenty minutes," I yelled and ascended the stairs two at a time. "Thank your time missus." My mother said and I could imagine her shaking her head, so unladylike she would say. "Mom, I can't find my purple scarf," I shouted less than twenty minutes later, I was already dressed in Doc martens boots, black jeans, and a white cashmere sweater, all that remained was my signature neck scarf to complete my look. My head was packed up in a messy bun and my eyelashes had been curled, my lips had also been painted with pink lipstick, all of that I achieved in less than twenty minutes. Record-breaker. "I don't know hun, ask Jay, he's the one always arranging your room." My mother answered and she was right, if something went missing, I should probably ask that nosy twin of mine. "Jay," I yelled again, prepared to ask him the same question I had just asked my mother. "I'm not telling, you should consider going to school without that necktie, your mark is beautiful Jay." He said coming into my room for the second time this morning. He was the only one allowed to call me Jay, it was a twin thing, I called him Jay, he also called me Jay, even though everybody else also called him Jay or Jayden, they were not allowed to call me that, only Jade or Jad for short. "Jay, you know that I don't feel comfortable exposing it like that," I said, yeah I should have mentioned that, after I got back from the hospital, I didn't want to cover up the scar surgically so I opted for the natural method and it eventually grew on me and became part of my style, nobody had ever seen the scar except my family and few close friends. "Does it still burn, did you have another nightmare?" He asked, awwwwn my brother is so caring, he was the closest person to me and I told him all my secrets and he also told me his, there were no secrets between us. I had been having nightmares that I couldn't remember ever since the beginning of the year and the mark had started to burn and sting sometimes. Even though I tried drugs, they didn't help at all and soon I abandoned them. They always left a weird aftertaste in my mouth anyway. "It hasn't stung me in a while, but I still can't remember the dream, I just wake up sometime after midnight scared and the mark itches me," I said truthfully. "Don't you think we should tell mom?" He asked but I refused, my mother had enough issues already with the moving and all that, I didn't want to get her worked up over anything. "I'm fine Jay, I'll be fine, just give me my scarf," I said and took it from his grip when he stretched it to me. "Just promise me you'll always talk to me okay." He said and I nodded. "Thicker than thieves remember," I said and pointed my pinky towards him. "Thicker than thieves." He replied and touched his pinky to mine as well in a pinky promise. We had been doing that since we knew the meaning of the phrase and somehow, it applied to us, we were indeed thicker than thieves. A few minutes later, we left for school, we always drove to school together, even though we each had separate cars, we would just interchange the cars and the drivers every day. Today we were driving my purple convertible, tomorrow we would drive his black BMW. Eh, my mother did spare us the luxuries she could afford. When we got to school, I parked the car and threw him the key. I could be kind of careless and I did not want to be stuck in the hallways looking for a key after school, believe me, it is not pretty, it happened only once and I learned my lesson. I watched a bunch of girls flock unto my brother as we made it into school, this was not new to me, I waved him goodbye and continued walking, I had math my first class and I did not want to miss it or get to class late because detention sucks. "Jade baby hi." Linda squealed and hugged me. She was one of the many fake female friends I had, they thought if they got closer to me they would be able to date my brother. "Hi." I greeted her back and rolled my eyes at her. "Where's Jayden?" She asked, linking her arms with mine. "He's just outside," I replied, pulling her arms off mine. "I gat to get to class Lin, see you later." I waved and left without waiting for a reply. "Sup dude?" Zara greeted falling into step with me. Now, this was the only person I would miss in the whole of California, this was Zara, my crazy best friend since kindergarten. When I say crazy, I mean jumping off a cliff into the sea kind, the wearing baggy jeans and scarf tops kind of crazy. But I freaking love her, even with her purplish hair, she crazy but she my b****h. "Hi b***h." I greeted her and her grin widened. "Math class eh?" She asked and pulled out a skateboard from her bag. "Yeah," I said and she looked at me for a second before she asked. "You sleep well, dude?" "Meh," I said and she smiled at me. The rest of the day passed in a blur and I was thankful that at the end of the day, I did not have detention and my car key was not missing. "Don't you have practice today Jay?" I asked and he gave me the car keys. "We'll be gone in a few days anyway." He sighed and got in. "Florida is beautiful and I heard that they offer surfing lessons, mother said our house is not too far from the beach right, we can finally learn to surf once we turn eighteen," I said to cheer him up. "Wouldn't that be rad?" He said smiling and He drummed his fingers on the dashboard excitedly as I pulled out from the parking lot. "Hi hun, a package came for you." My mother said when we entered the house, she had spent all day packing and boxing everything up, I was sure that we would leave for Florida by Friday. "What package?" Jay and I asked at the same time. "I don't know, this one," she said pointing to a small box on the kitchen counter. "It doesn't have a sender's address though, could it be from your secret admirer?" She asked and I blushed a crimson shade. "Mom!" I yelled and sped up to my room with the box in my hand. I didn't have any admirer, not one that I knew anyway and I didn't order anything online. I tore open the box immediately because I'm a very impatient person and I gasped in horror when I saw the content of the box. It was my missing jade pendant, it was a family heirloom and I had lost it the night of my accident at the summer camp. I stared at it in shock and I suddenly saw an image in my mind. Golden eyes. I saw someone, no a boy with golden eyes leaning towards me and then he, damn I don't remember. This was strange though, I had given up on ever finding the jade necklace and now all of a sudden it was back and at the most unusual time.
