A Moonlit Encounter

I see it, the yellow glowy eyes of a wolf or a coyote, and I hear it, the familiar howl of a wild creature ready to devour its victim and I come to the sad realization that I am lost in the woods. I run, keep running not looking back, I run for my dear life because I know that if that creature catches up to me, it will not hesitate to read me apart. I don't want to die, I just turned sixteen and I was yet to experience all the benefits of that age, I was also yet to have a boyfriend, my mother said I could have one when I turned sixteen and there was a guy in my class who wouldn't stop asking me out. I really liked him too and so I was glad that I would be able to accept him now. I don't seem to have any bearing of where I am or where I am headed, but all I know is that I cannot let that creature get to me. What is it? I rack my brain as my legs continue to make me proud. What type of animal has yellow glowy eyes, lives in the woods, and howls at night. If only I did not wander too far from the camp, and if only I had not been interested in a midnight swim and tried to find my way to the stream myself. I knew that the teachers would never let me wander out of camp so late at night, but I had heard whispers from the seniors who were visiting the lake at night, few of my classmates were invited to go as well, but I had been excluded because I was a late bloomer. I wanted to show them that just because I was a late bloomer didn't mean that I was not brave or that I could not participate in their midnight games. Only tonight had been my chance because they had decided to stay in, something about the moon being celestial tonight, but the moon had always looked celestial to me and so I had decided to sneak to the stream myself and come back with proof that I could be one of them. Only I definitely did not think this true because I didn't know the route to the stream, I thought it was not that far and that I would be able to locate it and clearly, I didn't know enough of the dangers that lurked around at night. I forced my legs to a halt as I came close to the mouth of a cliff. Great, two ways to die now eh Jade, congratulations I said to myself and took in my surroundings. There was no one for miles and even if I screamed for help, I was not sure that anyone would help me, or want to come to my aid. "Help me, help me," I screamed helplessly anyway, I couldn't succumb to my death so easily, I would try to save myself before dying. The world stood still and I heard a familiar ringing sound in my ear as the yellow eyes came into view, the eyes had multiplied, seems the one that saw me went to call the whole pack for a meal. I didn't even know when I started moving backward, I just realized that the eyes stopped coming closer and that was when it hit me. I had jumped off a cliff. I screamed in horror as I fell through the sky, only to fall on my back, I screamed again but this time it was in pain, I was sure that I had cracked open my skull, broken my neck and my back. How did I know all of that? My mother's a physician. Oh mother, oh my sweet dear mother I thought, she would drive herself mad when she heard that I was gone and my brother would hate himself because he had been the one to recommend this trip. I groaned in pain and whimpered silently, I did not have the strength to cry out, I wish the fall could have killed me, but not it left me alive to die slowly and in pain. Movements rattled beside me and I wondered if the yellow eyes had come to finish their job, but I only found a young boy of around my age beside me. I wished that I could talk, maybe I would tell him to write my final words and send them to my family, I would tell them not to cry over me or feel guilty about my death as my death was as a result of my stupidity. The boy moved closer and I tried to make out his features, but it was too dark and my eyes were already closing, I could feel death knocking on my door and I was sure that the grim reaper was on his way to collect me anytime now. "Shhh, I'm not going to let you die." I heard him say before I realized that I was still whimpering slightly. His hands brushed the skin of my neck and I watched him lower himself to me, I tried to struggle, but it was no use, I was too weak having bled out so much and I had broken almost all the bones in my body. His tongue touched my neck and I felt a sharp pain before I drifted into the darkness, somewhere between life and death I heard his voice say. "Mine." before it all went dark.
