Sarah
My head ached. I slowly sat up on my bed, the soft sheet falling off my shoulders. The cold hit me hard as I turned to place my feet on the wooden floor of our cottage.
The cold unfamiliarity on my bare feet hit me first. Awakening me into realization. I was not home.
Where am I??
I jumped up as I scanned the room around me, my head spun threatening to send me crashing back down. I was in a cell, was this Derek’s doing? I didn’t doubt it. The cell was large though, almost the size of our little cottage, if it was him, he’d have to be much wealthier then I thought. I walked toward the thick iron bars, my feet stinging against the cold of the stone floor.
There were more cells surrounding a large circular centre. All seemingly empty. There were no guards patrolling the floors either. My head ached as I tried to recall the events that had led me here.
I had been in the forest after running away from the news of my engagement.
The wolf.
I quickly scanned myself looking for serious injuries the beast could have inflicted upon me. The only one I could find was the pounding in my head from when it had cracked on the hard tree root. Maybe Derek’s men had fought it off? I had come face to face with them before, they’d hardly be capable of taking down such a creature. Even if the Mayor's guard had accompanied them.
Who was it then?
Whose prison was I in?
Where was the giant wolf now?
I needed to get back to my family. I usually hunt early to make sure they can eat by the time they awake. I doubt Derek would have taken care of them if I wasn’t by his side. He would wait until I return. Knowing I was the only one that was keeping my family from starving, I had to get out of here.
My head ached with all the thoughts that rushed through them, my vision spotted as darkness threatened to pull me back. My head pounding hard begging me to rest. I started calling out to the empty darkness, pleading with my captor.
I couldn’t hear myself against the raging waves in my ears, waves that resonated from the pain in my head. I begged and pleaded into nothing. Circling between sweet words to berates of profanity, largely aimed towards Derek and his father.
The darkness in my vision slowly enveloped me as I sunk onto the cold floor. The smooth icy surface stung my bare arms and legs as they pressed down, sinking slowly into the cold darkness of unconsciousness. My voice faltered at last and the waves in my head crashed in to fill its void.

Tyson
Tyson wondered when his punishment would end so he could sneak into the dungeon to check on the human girl. The king had been screaming at him for over an hour now and his back hurt from sitting in the awkward war room chair for so long. King Jeremy paced quickly, his face bright red from the anger he poured out towards his son.
After Tyson had brought home the human girl his father had stormed off. Tyson had then moved quickly to place her in the dungeon to keep her far away from the other wolves, freeing him to chase after his father. The dungeon had not been used since King Jeremy had taken power and vowed to end the tyranny of his father, and Tyson knew it was a safe place to keep his mate from prying eyes.
“YOU CAN’T BRING A HUMAN INTO THIS HOUSE! WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT THE PROTECTION OF HUMANS AGAINST THE DISCOVERY OF WEREWOLVES? I SENT YOU OUT FOR ONE TASK AND YOU COME BACK DOING THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE! I CANNOT BELIEVE THE UTTER STUPIDITY OF YOUR ACTIONS. WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING? DO YOU REALLY THINK I CAN BESTOW UPON YOU THE POSITION OF ALPHA AFTER SHOWING HOW MUCH OF A COMPLETE, SELFISH, IRRATIONAL i***t YOU CAN BE!?
His father’s words berated his mind and Tyson winced inwardly as the usual kind man turned sour, wreathing at the actions of his son. Tyson hadn’t yet had the chance to tell his father the girl was his mate; he had been too busy in his fury to let him get a word in. He didn’t even know if his father would believe him, it was unheard of for a wolf to have a human mate. Was it even possible? A mate was a deep spiritual connection between magical beings. A mate between different magical species was rare enough, but to be mated to one without any magical connection at all seemed essentially impossible.
Tyson was too busy in his thoughts of his strange connection to the human girl to realize his father had stopped talking and was now staring at him with scorching eyes.
“Well?”
King Jeremy’s voice was quieter now but no less scathing.
Tyson moistened his lips, now realizing he hadn’t been listening when his father had asked him a question. He shifted uncomfortably readying himself to admit his mistake to his already scathing father. King Jeremy’s face contorted further as he realized his son had not been listening to him, his stare turning icy as he took a hissed breath.
“I asked, why you would bring a human into our home.”
Tyson rubbed his neck as he prepared to explain himself to his father, worried and unsure how his father would react.
“she’s my mate”
His words came out softer than he expected. King Jeremy stared at him, with a confused yet still scathing stare. Tyson cleared his throat, staring intently at the brown tiles decorating the war room floor, realizing his father mustn’t have heard him.
“she’s m...”
“I heard you the first time!”
King Jeremy barked back at him. Tyson forced himself to meet his fathers stare. It had softened from the cold harsh stare into confused worry.
“You should leave now. I need to figure things out with your mother, please send her in”
King Jeremy’s words were cold and empty as he turned to stare out the large glass windows lighting the dark war room. Tyson got up quickly and hurried to the door, thankful that he could now check on the human girl. He swung it open to find his mother pacing outside.
“He wants to talk to you inside”
Queen Mary spun around worry shrouding her delicate features.
“Is everything okay? What is this all about? Are you alright?”
“Mum I’m fine”
Tyson replied taking her hands into his own, he took a shaky breath as he tried to calm the anxiety rising in his chest.
“I’m sure Dad will explain everything, you should go in he’s waiting for you”
Queen Mary moved past her son into the war room, gently squeezing his shoulder as she passed trying to calm the tension building inside him. With that, the war room door closed and Tyson was left alone again. He quickly paced toward the spiral dungeon stairs, eager to get back to the human girl.
