Tyson
Tyson paced through the forest, listening carefully to every leaf crack and rustle, trying to sense for another wolf nearby. The moonlight glinted on the wet tree leaves imitating the glint of the predator’s eye he was seeking; the smell of damp earth masked the scent he had begun to track.
Rogues had been sited near the human villagers, and as he slowly accepted the new role of alpha from his father, Tyson was tasked with protecting the humans under their rule. The scent Tyson had been tracking was growing stronger, it was sweet yet earthy. He hadn’t believed it to be at first from his kind, but it was his wolf that had alerted him to it, having quickly awakened from deep sleep to slowly hum in the back of his mind with excitement.
As Tyson came to a clearing in the centre of the forest he stopped abruptly, masking himself in the shadows of the trees. A human girl was crouched picking flowers. She slowly stood up, golden hair glinting in the white moonlight, raising the flowers over her head. No not flowers… knives. With one swift arm movement, she sent the knives flying across the clearing sinking into the dark trees that circled the grove.
At that moment Tyson noticed the humming of his wolf had grown louder. He began to hear the words that had been resonating through his mind.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaate.
Tyson tensed at his realization; his mate was here, now. He quickly scanned the forest edge for the rogue his wolf had called mate. There was nothing. His wolf threatening to break free to find his one, forcing Tyson to take a step back. He couldn’t risk shifting near a human, especially when his wolf was so restless. Tyson quickly scanned the tree line ones again, listening carefully for any sound of a wolf nearby, any scent other than that of the human. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Tyson quickly turned, forcing himself to take another step away from the clearing, away from wherever his mate was hiding.
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!
Tyson prepared to run, his duties as Alpha transcended his need for a mate. Risking a human’s life, and the human’s discovery of magic, all so he could find his mate could make him lose his position as Alpha. Tyson lunged forward, only to be thrown backwards. His clawed hand digging into the tree of the clearing. He slowly began transforming, watching helplessly as his wolf forced itself to emerge. He slowly circled back to the clearing, Tyson fighting back its every movement. His wolf zeroed in at the young female extracting the knives from the trees and bounded towards her in an instant.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaate!
Tyson’s wolf cried gleefully while Tyson watched in horror as he leapt through the air right into the human. Her sweet face masked in shock and fear as his giant wolf crashed into her, bringing her down hard onto the forest floor.

Sarah
I can’t believe her!! I had run off after hearing my mother’s ‘happy’ announcement. I was to be married. To the ass of the village for that matter. His awful grin plagued my mind as I crashed through the tree branches going deeper into the forest.
For years I had avoided his advances, which wasn’t easy, him being the son of the mayor and all. Every time he tried to feel me up or gang up with his buddies to have their way, I had left him with a broken nose, a busted lip or mangled fingers. All of that and now, I was to be given away to him.
I could still remember his sickening grin as he watched me storm out. He didn’t even bother trying to chase me down, he knew I’d have to come back, I couldn’t leave my family to starve.
I came to the clearing where my father and I used to train. He was the reason I was able to defend myself all these years. I went to the large patch of flowers where I had hidden his throwing knives. They were the last gift he had given me before the accident in the mine. That was when are family fell upon hard times. Why my mother was desperate for this wedding arrangement.
Hatred and sadness welled inside me as I picked the knives from their satchel and slowly raised them above my head. My mother’s words resonated inside me “I’m sorry darling, they’ve offered a large sum of money for your hand. We can’t refuse”. Derek’s disgusting crooked grin spread across his face as his eyes slowly crawling over my body, taking in everything he now believed to be his. Now that was his.
Anger threatened to unleash tears as I studied the trees at the end of the clearing. Their branches curled up to resemble Derek’s disgusting smirk. I brought the knives down hard, watching in satisfaction as they sunk deep into the trees. Making them shake under the pressure.
I stormed towards the dark trees, wishing for all the things I could never have.
I heard a loud rustling behind me. I tensed, knowing it was Derek’s men waiting to drag me back to him. This was going to be my life now. I turned around ready to hurtle a knife towards their heads, wanting to watch their faces as the knife clipped their ears.
A howl broke my thoughts.
I watched in horror as a large grey wolf hurtled through the air towards me. It crashed its heavy body into me bringing me down hard into the forest floor. My head cracking against the dark tree roots.
My mind going black.
