CHAPTER 4

1553 Words
Lucia lay down on the bed, just to unwind from this life. Along the way she tried to hold back the tears as best she could, but when she got to her room, she just burst into tears. She was crying hysterically, venting her disappointment at the man she had been fighting for all this time. Lucia remembered well how she recommended Rudolf where she worked. Of course She did all that because Rudolf, who was unemployed at the time, persuaded her. There were many good opportunities for promotion, but Lucia gave them up for the sake of Rudolf who she thought would be her future husband. Now she regrets her past foolishness, allows herself to be humiliated and continues to succumb to a man who is not worth fighting for. She and Rudolf were village friends. She who was an orphan felt that she had a brother figure in the gentle Rudolf. They were together for a long time, complementing each other even though in reality only Lucia shared and Rudolf was just taking advantage of her. She reached for her cell phone, checking the amount of savings she currently had. Lucia sighed heavily, her savings weren't too much because she had often bought things to buy Rudolf a lot of things. "Damn it! How could I be this stupid?” she muttered when she saw a row of numbers with a small amount. "I have to find a job or die a silly death of starvation." The money is not much, maybe it will only be enough to last for 2-3 months, especially since she has to pay rent for the room in the near future. Lucia was dizzy, this situation felt even more difficult because now she was only dealing with it alone. When she still had Rudolf as a lover, any hardship seemed easier even though he did nothing for her. Just with Rudolf's presence, it was more than enough to give her more strength to fight in the rigors of life. Now, she realized that the happiness she felt was completely an illusion of her own making. From the start, she was the only one who loved, but Rudolf didn't feel the same way. From the start, only she considered everything valuable, but not Rudolf. If he really loved her and also believed in her, there was no way he would just leave her just because of a photo. To make her feel even more stifled, he immediately started dating her best friend—no! More specifically, her former best friend—Judith. “Keep spirit, Lucia… keep spirit. Everything will be fine—” Her words were interrupted when a call came in from her loved one who was far away. She was Samantha—her grandmother, she was the only family she had in this world right now. Lucia immediately caught her breath, Samantha shouldn't be suspicious if she was in trouble now. "Hello, Grandma—" “Lucia, this is Aunt Diana.” Diana is Rudolf's mother. Lucia wondered how she could be there, even though their house was quite far away and Diana, who didn't like her, would not have come to visit her grandmother. "Auntie, where's grandma?" "Go home, your grandmother is unconscious, it's troublesome." Lucia was stunned for a moment. Misfortune befell her again, everything feels heavier now. Not enough with Rudolf's betrayal, now hse has to accept bad news from the only family she has. "I-I'll be home soon." "Yes, come home soon." “Please take care—” The phone call just ended. Diana hung up immediately because she was reluctant to talk to a woman she didn't like, while in front of her now an old old woman was unconscious after she spoke. “You damn! It's a pain," she grumbled as she put the woman's cell phone back on the small table. “Madam Diana, how is it? Should we take her to the hospital?” asked her maid. "No need! Just a waste of money.” "But madam, what if something happened to Mrs. Samantha?" Diana took a deep breath. "Just say this old fart fell in the bathroom. It's easy, right?" Her maid could only nod a little, of course she was afraid that people around would suspect because Samantha suddenly fainted after talking to her employer. “O-okay, Madam. “Then hurry up and tell the people around that when we arrived Samantha was already unconscious in the bathroom. “Y-yes, madam.” She walked away, leaving Samantha and her employer who was staring at the old body viciously. "I told you, keep your granddaughter away from my son," she hissed. *** A luxury car was parked right in the courtyard of the company building that used to be where Lucia worked. Of course it made a commotion among the workers, even the owner of the company itself. A CEO from a big company visited suddenly, of course no one would have expected it. "Welcome Mr. Alex," said the owner of the company. “A-ah… I have a bad memory. Your name ..." "I'm Martin, owner of Mroe's company." He introduced himself as he handed over his business card. Alexander grabbed it and put it in his pocket without looking it at all. "Mr Martin, nice to meet you. I'm Alexander, just unemployed," he mocked. The man named Martin blushed, he forgot who he was talking to at this time. Alexander wasn't the type to like people who elevate their status, he'd been wrong about it--he thought. “A-ah… Sir likes to be humble. Gosh... pardon me for being so rude. Come, please have a seat, sir." Alexander leaned his body on the sofa, while occasionally looking around the room which was not even as big as his room in the company. “You have good taste.” "Thank you sir." "Get straight to the point. I'm looking for someone to work for your company, Mr Martin." “Ah, that's an easy affair. If so, what's that person's name?" “Lucia Lancaster. Call her here." Hearing that name, the man named Marin was a little surprised. Lucia was not a person of high status even in his company. “Miss Lucia? How did you come to know Miss Lucia?” "Should I explain it to you too?" asked Alexander with a sneer. Martin swallowed his dry saliva. “N-no, sir. I will contact HR to come here.” "Yes please." Martin grabbed his phone and called Rudolf to come into his room. It didn't take long, the man came with all the files related to his ex-lover with curiosity. "Introducing, I'm Rudolfo." He introduced himself politely. Hearing Rudolf's name, he remembered Lucia slurring that name while making love to him. Instead of answering Rudolf's greeting, Alexander now scanned the man from head to toe. "Loser." "Sorry Sir?" "You. Loser. There's nothing special." Rudolf was annoyed of course, but he couldn't fight the man now that it was clear who the victor was. "Sorry if my appearance bothers you so much." "Thank goodness you know yourself too." Rudolf gripped the file in his hand. He tried to control himself so as not to be angry at that time. “Is there anything you need Mr. Martin?' “Bring all the information about Lucia Lancaster.” Hearing the name of his former lover was mentioned, Rudolf looked surprised. "If I may ask, what is it for, sir?" "Oh my gosh, Mr. Martin, you look after an impolite subordinate," interrupted Alexander. Martin glared at Rudolf. “Should I tell you?!” Rudolf shook his head slowly. “N-no, sir. Forgive me. However, Lucia Lancaster just resigned from the company this morning.” "Resign? He couldn't have done that to escape me, could he?” he muttered. Alexander did not want to waste time, he got up from the sofa and adjusted his coat. "In that case, I say goodbye. Thank you for your welcome.” "B-but Sir, shouldn't we talk for a bit?" “Sorry, I'll call you back when I'm free. In that case, excuse me.” Alexander took all the files in his hands, then returned to his car. He couldn't wait any longer, he had to meet the woman who had lowered his self-esteem as soon as possible. Meanwhile at the company, the news about Alexander looking for Lucia of course caused an uproar. Of course this was used by Judith to strengthen the rumors she made, denying all accusations that she snatched Rudolf from Lucia. “I told you, she's a bitch." “Gosh…. I didn't expect her to be such a naughty woman. It's only natural that Mr. Rudolf broke their relationship," they replied. Judith smiled with satisfaction seeing the response given by her coworkers, now she no longer needs to be ashamed to admit her relationship with Rudolf at the office, there are no longer obstacles for her. However, she also felt a little annoyed at Lucia. How could she know a man as handsome and rich as Alexander? Last night she had made sure that she went to the hotel with her messenger, it was impossible that she had met Alexander last night—she thought. "I'll have to check it myself," she mumbled. She walked away to call her messenger.
