CHAPTER 5

1072 Words
Alexander drove his car to the address listed on Lucia's CV file. He was curious about the woman's expression when she saw him later. However, suddenly his cell phone rang loudly, a phone call from someone he didn't want to be named. He snorted in annoyance, trying to ignore her phone calls as best he could. However, the man kept calling him again, which irritated Andrew and he finally decided to step aside to just answer his phone calls. "Hello." "Why did it take so long to answer the phone?" asked the man on the line. Andrew took a deep breath. "Why do you care? Besides, I'm answering because I want you to know that you're such a nuisance.” There was a sigh from there. “I know you are still very angry with me, but could you be a little more generous with this old man—” "I can't," he insisted. “If you are so free, you should go to church to mourn before God.” Hearing her words, the man was so angry. "Aren't you going too far, Alexander Galloway? Even though you hate me so much, I'm still your father!” Alexander laughed, he laughed at the ridiculous remark the man said. Yes, he was his father—Immanuel Galloway. The man who claimed to be a father, but abandoned him since childhood until finally admitting it when his mother died. He was too innocent and naive to think that at that time his father picked him up out of longing and affection, but in reality Immanuel did so because he wanted to make him a competitor to his eldest son—William, from his legal marriage with his wife—Delilah. He who married because of business interests, of course, needed another child to suppress the power of Delilah, a greedy woman who in the end only made herself a money-printing machine. Yes ... Alexander is his youngest son from a mistress. He, who feels his marriage is empty, falls in love with an innocent woman named Elise Francis—Alexander’s mother. They made love without a marriage bond, and Alexander Galloway was born. However, when Delilah found out, Immanuel, who did not have the power to fight Delilah, finally abandoned the woman and his son. Let them live in poverty in an orphanage where Delilah grew up. Until finally the woman died without getting her rights, leaving Alexander, who was only 15 years old. When he saw Immanuel pick him up, of course little Alexander thought it was a good thing. However, over time, he began to understand that he was only used as a tool to suppress Delilah and William's power in the future. "Father? Tsk-tsk-tsk… I don't know why you call yourself a father after what you did to me and mom.” “Stop talking about the past, Alexander. Isn't this all for your own good too? You think, how could you be where you are today if it wasn't for me?!” Alexander snorted in annoyance. “No one asked you to do that! Did I ever ask for it?!” “Gosh… didn't we agree not to talk about it? Don't you know the reason behind all this?" Unknowingly, his eyes were almost wet with tears. He hated every time he had to argue with Immanuel about this. For him it was like a black circle that was so suffocating. If he could just leave it all behind, of course he would. "It's okay ... speak clearly. What do you mean by contacting me?" "Let's visit your mother. I have already bought some pretty flowers." Andrew took a deep breath. "Okay. We'll meet at the funeral." "Yes." He then hung up the phone and took a deep breath. He decided to abandon his intention for today to look for Lucia, then turned around towards the cemetery where his mother was already resting peacefully. As for Lucia, the woman had just arrived at her village. She stared at the old woman who was now lying weakly on the bed. By her side, Diana, who couldn't wait to go home, immediately got up from her place. "Thank God that you've come, I can't stand being in this shabby place." "Thank you for helping grandma, Aunty." "You should know a nice way to say thank you." "You mean Auntie?" “If you're really grateful to me, you'd better stay away from my son-Rudolf. You are not suitable, she is too precious for you. Prayer deserves a woman far better than just an orphan and poor woman like you." Hearing those words, of course, Lucia felt very hurt. She remembered well how Diana had persuaded her to take Rudolf into town and asked her to recommend him to the company she was working for. However, she was just like a son, ungrateful—she thought. "You and Rudolf are indeed mother and daughter, very much alike." “What do you mean, huh?!” “You are both shameless and ungrateful people.” Diana waved her hand about to slap Lucia, but the woman quickly restrained her. "Enough of your son hurting me, not you either." Diana laughed. “Have my son and I separated? Gosh… it was a waste of time for me to do this.” She pulled her arm away from Lucia. "Well, it's good that you two have separated, so I don't have to bother trying to persuade Rudolf anymore." After saying that, Diana walked away, leaving Lucia with a million disappointments. Everyone betrayed her, those she used to think were her family and her lover. Tears fell from her eyes again, lamenting the fate that bound her. She spent the wasted years without much that she had after losing so much. She hugged Samantha's body tightly, still unconscious, she was the only treasure she had in this world and he didn't want to lose anything again. Helped by local residents, Lucia took Samantha to a nearby hospital, where she was finally treated and received proper treatment. While the old woman was receiving treatment, Lucia was thinking about many things, especially about the continuation of their lives. Until finally he decided to go with Samantha, away from the past that bound him, away from Rudolf, away from Diana, starting a new life even though it was too late. She reached for her cell phone, then she immediately called someone. "Hello."
