Ignorance, Love & Betrayal

CHAPTER ONE “If by some stroke of good luck, I could have fought for true love,” Evelyn thought to herself. It was a cool evening. Evelyn sat on the smooth, white sand at the water’s edge, watching the waves flow over the clear blue water. She reflected on the events of her past that led her to this present moment. She could not come to terms with the fact that her marriage with Raymond had just crashed. She sat down engrossed with the thought of events that had characterized the journey of her life. She was almost losing her mind and for the first time, she hated the feeling, tears blurred her vision. She felt she needed to take a break from her brain, she wished her brain could be separated from her so she could just have some moments of peace within her. She remembered how she met her first love Harry when she was about to get admitted into the college. Harry was a handsome dude, he towered over the other customers in the supermarket, and he had rich fair skin that glinted under the supermarket's fluorescent lights. He had made a stop at the supermarket at the end of the street to fill his fridge with drinks as it had been cleared by his friends who came around for a visit at the weekend. As he lifted heavy packs of filtered water and drinks that he had gone to buy, his muscles rippled beneath his fitted shirt, he had that appearance that could make him stand out in the crowd, drawing a few admiring glances from nearby shoppers. Harry and Evelyn lived on the same street. Although it wasn't long before Evelyn and her parents moved to the neighborhood she didn't know Harry. Evelyn lives down the street with her parent. She and Harry had met at the supermarket on their street where she had gone to stock up on her skincare kit, it was love at first sight on the part of Harry. Harry was driving home in one of his father’s cars. Harry was from a rich family he was the son of a billionaire. His father, Chief Anderson was a successful businessman, having his business empire spread across the continent and beyond and his mother was a top bank official. He was the only son and last child of his parent with two older sisters. Harry was in his third year at the college. Even though he was brought up with a silver spoon, he was courteous and very intelligent. On this fateful evening, as he drove on their street, heading back home, he had wanted to get some packs of wine from the supermarket, Evelyn was chatting with one of the other shoppers with her radiant smile. Harry couldn’t take his eyes off her stunning look and mesmerizing eyes. He was immediately swept off his feet by her alluring look. “Hello Miss, my name is Harry and I live down the street, may I know your name"? Harry had said politely with a grin, “My name is Evelyn, good evening” was Evelyn’s response and she left. Just as she was about to leave, Harry offered her a lift in his car since they were both heading the same way but she declined stating that she doesn’t accept offers from strangers at least not someone she's meeting for the first time.l She insisted and left. All through the evening, Harry battled with the thought of Evelyn’s beauty in his head and couldn’t get his mind off her and the scenario at the supermarket. He wished he could hold her in his hands so close and tell her how he felt about her. He had determined to be on the lookout for Evelyn. On this faithful day, fate made their path cross once more and this time he was not going to let go. She had been on her way to check her entrance examination result from the café and Harry was on his way to visit one of his friends. His school had closed for the semester and they are presently on break. Upon sighting her, he offered to help “Can I help this time, I’m no longer a stranger” said Harry, at first Evelyn wanted to decline, she had so many thoughts flashing through her mind. What if he is just another guy that had just come to tease her? Evelyn got teased by guys a lot, she didn't know if it was due to her soft nature or perhaps she felt so because she hardly socialized but whatever it was, she wasn't finding it funny at all and it was beginning to be annoying. She smiled and entered the car as she was already tired from the long walk from her house to the bus stop and her legs ached since she could not get a cab on time. He had asked her where she was going. She explained how her friend had told her that the result of their jamb exam was out and she was going to check and print it, so she could process her admission into the college. Jamb was an entry exam into college. He immediately offered to help and in no time the result was printed it was an impressive result, she had scored three hundred and forty-five out of the overall mark of four hundred. Evelyn was so happy. The excitement that one feels when things work out just the way you had planned it. She couldn't hide the feeling and she jumped into Harry's arms for a hug. Maybe she did that on purpose Harry could not tell but he loved it anyway and deep down he was happy. Harry could feel the excitement on Evelyn's face, so he wasn't so surprised by her display of excitement, or perhaps he was happy he'd finally got a chance to hold her so close for the first time. He was happy for her and they became friends. They chatted as though they’d known each other for a long time till they drove to her gate where he dropped her off. He reminded her of their date. They exchanged contact and he left. Evelyn still beaming with excitement rushed inside the house to share the good news with her parents, she also told them how a young man had assisted her with checking the result, they were happy and proud of her and congratulated her. A few weeks later, Harry invited her on a date to celebrate her achievement and she accepted.
