Chapter 7

1282 Words
At the police headquarters in Upbany Hills. Braylen was tightly strapped to a chair, with Ethan sitting across from him. Ethan turned to a suitable angle, displayed his police badge, and then showed a fake smile at Braylen. "My name is Ethan. I'll be recording your statement. Please cooperate with me." After these words, Ethan moved to a blind spot of the surveillance camera, picked up a remote, and turned off the camera. As the surveillance light went out, Ethan's smile vanished, and it was replaced by a sinister look as he stared at Braylen. "Since you already know my real intentions, there's no need for pretense." Ethan’s expression turned fierce as he toyed with the handcuff keys, asking arrogantly, "Where's the bank card? What’s the password? Don’t try to lie!" Braylen was handcuffed, but he just sat casually, looking at Ethan with contempt, as if he were the one in charge. Ethan felt his authority challenged, and he suddenly slammed the table and shouted, "Tell me! Now!" Braylen smiled coldly, "Mr. Giles, I don’t know what you're talking about." Ethan was momentarily stunned, and then snapped angrily, "Stop talking nonsense! Where’s the money that Rayan’s sister gave you?" Ethan showed a malicious grin as he looked at Braylen. "What to investigate is up to me," he declared. In that interrogation room, Ethan was the ruler. He had the means to make any suspect confess, regardless of their innocence. He tapped the table, adding, "If you don't hand over the money, I’ll dig deeper into you." He looked at Braylen with an evil expression. "Yesterday, you assaulted Rayan in public, and today, you're suspected of attempted rape. I can put you in prison for several years with these charges!" Braylen snorted, "Do you think you can imprison me with baseless accusations?" His gaze turned icy as if he were looking at a dead man. "You can try." Ethan turned the spotlight in the interrogation room to its highest setting and the air conditioning to its lowest. "Bang!" The spotlight blazed directly into Braylen's eyes while the air conditioner roared, making the room cold. According to the regulations, torture was prohibited, but there were always ways around them. The blinding light and continuous cold air were torturous, and most people would collapse within five minutes. Ethan then brought a high stool, grabbed Braylen's feet, and fixed them firmly in place. The uncomfortable position challenged Braylen’s nerves, causing significant pain without leaving marks. Ethan put on a coat, looking smug. "Braylen, I suggest you tell me where the money is. It'll save you a lot of pain." Braylen remained silent. His body was strong, so this kind of torture meant nothing to him. Braylen looked at Ethan with a poker face. "You’re torturing an innocent person by your police authority. Aren't you afraid of getting caught and spending the rest of your life in prison?" "Bang!" Ethan slammed the table, feeling frustrated as Braylen seemed to hold the upper hand. "It seems that you just want to go to prison, right?" He then opened the recording computer used for interrogation. "From what I know, you’re an orphan. The Randall family was your only support! Now that you’ve been kicked out, you have no one to turn to. If I put these charges on you and forge some evidence, you’ll end up in prison!" "Well," Braylen smiled calmly, "I've been everywhere except prison. I wouldn’t mind experiencing it." Ethan failed to intimidate Braylen, growing increasingly agitated. Then he accessed the police database, where a citizen’s driver's license number could reveal all their details. Ethan demanded coldly, "Tell me your driver's license number!" Facing the intense light, Braylen still remained calm with his eyes slightly closed. He then told Ethan several numbers, "0000..." Ethan paused, hearing the series of peculiar numbers for a moment. Then he slammed the table. "Stop playing games. There are no zeros in the first four numbers of a driver's license! Let me tell you. Our police database includes fingerprint authentication and facial recognition, so it's easy to access your information." Braylen smiled calmly at the intense light. "Just check, and you'll see." Ethan wondered how Braylen could remain so composed at that moment. ‘It seems that Braylen is not that simple!’ Even with his back to the light, Ethan felt a bit dazzled, but Braylen could stare directly at it. Besides, the cold air and other torturous methods seemed to have no influence on Braylen. And Braylen just stared coldly at him, as if he was the one in charge in the interrogation room! "s**t, this is weird!" Ethan muttered and entered Braylen's driver's license number. However, after seeing the words on the screen, Ethan was shocked. He couldn’t access Braylen's information. Instead, a popup message appeared. "Sorry, you have no authority to access it." It was the first time in his career that he encountered such a situation. "Have no authority..." Ethan wondered, ‘How can there be 'no authority' in the database?’ "Are you sure this is your driver’s licence number?" Ethan slammed the table. Braylen smiled lightly, "You can verify it with facial recognition." Ethan glared at Braylen. "Fine! If I find out you're fooling me, you’ll be dead!" The numbers could be faked, but facial recognition was reliable. Ethan picked up the device to scan Braylen's face. "Sorry, you have no authority to access it." The same message appeared again. Ethan was stunned. "How could this be?" "What are you doing, Ethan?" A stern voice came from the door. A strong middle-aged policeman in uniform pushed open the door and stepped in. His shoulder patch bore a silver star, exuding a sense of authority. "Sir!" Ethan stood up nervously. "I’m interrogating the suspect." Braylen glanced at the man, squinting his eyes slightly due to the strong light in the room. The police chief who entered the room was called Martin Warren, Ethan's superior. Martin glanced around the room with disapproval and walked over to turn off the strong light and the air conditioning. At that moment, Martin got a clear look at Braylen. The moment they saw each other, Martin broke out in a cold sweat as if staring at a fierce tiger! Martin had a vague sense that the man before him was a big shot. Braylen's gaze was as cold and sharp as a blade that had tasted blood. Originally, Martin had turned off the lights and air conditioning to cover for his subordinate Ethan, but it seemed... Martin looked at Braylen and asked, "What crime did you commit?" At the same time, Ethan was sweating in anxiety. His actions against Braylen were completely against the regulations. If Martin pursued this matter, it would be troublesome! Actually, Ethan had done such things before. As long as the target was a real criminal, Martin usually would just turn a blind eye to his actions. Thinking quickly, Ethan spoke before Braylen could say something, "Sir, you've come at the right time! This person has committed an indecent assault! I was just interrogating him. He not only committed crimes in public but also faked his identity!" "Really?" Martin glanced at Ethan indifferently. Ethan immediately gave up his seat to Martin and bent over to turn the computer screen towards him. "Sir, please take a look! He is likely a wanted criminal!" "Sorry, you have no authority to access it." The prompt on the screen shocked Martin. "No authority to access?" Martin muttered. He then logged in with his account and checked again. "Sorry, you have no authority to access it." To his surprise, the same message appeared! Martin now realized that they had committed a terrible mistake!
