The Girl With The Bike

Cassie and Ryan

We have surveillance cameras in the room that the girl and the baby are in 24/7 ever since we got back. She has been asleep for two days, our g**g nurse says that she passed out because she didn't have enough nutrition. We also have someone in their room at all hours of the day incase she wakes up and also to take care of the baby, who by the way is a boy. It was my turn to watch her now and the baby boy, it was also Rosa's nap time so she was asleep in my bed. It has been about 30 minutes since my shift started and I just fed the boy so I put him down for his nap, when the girl woke up. She looked scared and confused so I started to talk to her

"Hey hey hey calm down, you're safe here" I said to her

"Who are you? Where's my brother?" she said in a panicked voice

"My name is Lexianna, but everyone calls me Lexi. And your brother's right here" I pointed to the crib

"Is the girl ok?" she asked

"Do you mean Rosa?" I asked

"Is that what her name is?" she asked and I nodded

"Can I ask you a couple questions?" I asked and she nodded

"What's your name?"

"Cassie"

"What's your brothers name?"

"Ryan"

"How did you end up with those people"

"They killed my parents, and took me and Ryan with them"

"I'm sorry, how long had you been with them"

"Maybe 3 months" 

"Ok. You've been asleep for 2 days, are you hungry?" I asked and she nodded

I grabbed the baby monitor before we left and on our way down the stairs we ran into Isaac

"Hey your finally up" he said to Cassie

"Yeah uh hi" she said back

"I'm Isaac" he said

"Cassie" she said back

"I was just taking Cassie here to get some food. Do we still have muffins from a few days ago?" I ask

"Yea, I think there's 4 left. You can have them if you want" Isaac says to me then Cassie 

"Umm are you sure? It's your food, not mine" She says, me and Isaac look at each other and then to Cassie

"You are now our family, we will protect you and Ryan with our lives. And since you are our family, our food is you're food. So you can have as much as you want, with in reason" I say

She gives me an 'are you sure?' look to which I just hug her and a couple seconds later Isaac joins

"However there's something I want to ask you" I say when I break the hug

"What is it?" Cassie asks sweetly

"We want to make you apart of this family, permanently" I say

"okayyy, what does that mean?" she asks

"Isaac can you go get Kevin and Alex, please?" I ask nicely 

"Of course babe" He says and kisses me before he leaves

I turn around to see that Cassie is shaking

"Hey hey hey, what's wrong?" I ask worriedly 

"W-who a-are Ke-evin an-and A-alex?" she stutters

"It's the people who want to adopt you and Ryan" I say softly wiping the tears off of her cheeks

"And they are very nice people. Kevin is the one who brought you out of that house, and Alex is his girlfriend" I say reassuringly 

"Are you sure they're nice?" she asks

"Of course" I say with a smile

"And you're sure they won't hurt me?" she asks

"Absolutely. But if they do, I will personally make sure they won't even be able to talk to you" I say

"Ok" she says with a smile

"Hey you're awake"" I hear a voice from behind me, Kevin

"Cassie this is Kevin and Alex, Kevin and Alex this is Cassie" I say as I get up

Alex immediately runs and hugs her, and Kevin just walks up to her

"Baby you might wanna ease up, you're squishing her" Kevin say to Alex

Alex lets go and instantly apologizes

"Oh my god I'm so sorry. Are you ok? Did I hurt you?" Alex asks 

"Yea I'm fine and no you didn't hurt me" Cassie says calmly

"But I am still hungry" she finishes

"Of course, come on I'll take you to the kitchen and you can eat. Oh maybe later I can teach you how to bake. Oh and" Alex said and her voice started to fade as she and Kevin took Cassie to the kitchen

"Oh I feel bad for the kid. Having to deal with Alex all the time" Isaac says when they're out of earshot 

"Yeah me too, having to learn all of Alex's recipes" I reply

Just then I hear the sound of little feet coming down the stairs

"Rosa what did I say about running in the house?" I question

"Umm to not" she says

"That's right. However I'll make an exception because Cassie is up and in the kitchen" I say and her face lights up and she starts to run to the kitchen

"Isaac could we go to my room, I need to talk to you" I say, his face has a look of confusion and worry in it

"Of course, is everything ok?" he asks

"I just need to talk to you" I say vaguely and start to walk to my room

Once we get in my room he shuts the door. After a while I feel a pair of arms wrap around my waist

"Baby what is it?" Isaac asks quietly

"I have been so worried about Cassie ever since we got back, wondering if she would ever wake up. What if she didn't?" I say

"But she did" Isaac replies

"I know, but what if she didn't. What if that had been Rosa?" I ask on the verge of crying

Isaac turns me around to face him

"But Cassie did wake up. And it wasn't Rosa. Lexi you always focus on what could of happened rather on what did happen" Isaac says

"I know, I know. But I don't know why. It's probably because I'm broken" I say looking down

"You are not broken, Lexi" Isaac says lifting my chin up and then hugs me

"Go on a date with me" Isaac says when we break from the hug

"What?" I ask

"Go on a date with me" he says again

I look in his eyes and then reply

"Yes"
