My shift was smoother with other patients, they gave me a weak smile and waited for me to use my magic and heal them. Then lunchtime came and I asked Emily for Andrew’s food.
“I’m going to be a LONG time with him, so if Dr. Williams calls me, tell him I’m on break”. I told Emily to get my lunch as well.
“Oh, don’t forget your pills”, she reminds me.
“Oh, thanks”, I said, taking my pills.
I was about to knock on Andrew’s door until it flew open with the beta and Alpha itself. The beta left as soon as possible but the Alpha stayed in my sight.
“Good afternoon, Roxy”, he said.
“Good afternoon, Alpha”, I politely said.
“Is Andrew making progress in the past month?”, he asked as he took the apple that was supposed to be for Andrew off the plate.
“Yes, he’s making progress”, I said with gritted teeth.
“So, you’re implying that Dr. Williams statements are false?”, he asked me in a devious manner.
“No, I’m not saying that. I’m saying that he’s in a better condition, including his mental health. Dr. Williams’s diagnosis is based just on his physical condition and, if you excuse me, ALPHA, I have a patient that is waiting for me”, I said with a wicked smile.
I don’t know what my effect is on high ranks, but whenever he tries to piss me, he gets a bit nervous when I get angry. When I got in the room, Andrew was crying. I’m pretty sure they told him that he would not be the next beta. It breaks my heart watching him like this. He was a very kind child to me and yet his father sent him on a suicidal mission that got him paraplegic. He doesn’t even visit his son. So, he comes on his 18th birthday to tell him he won’t be the next beta.
I left the food on the table that was near and hugged him. I knew he needed a hug. Andrew might be a teenager but, in my eyes, he’s just a kid that paid for his Alpha and father’s decisions.
“They’re not going to make me the next beta. I knew it but it still hurts and it is so early to take that kind of decision!”, he cried.
“Is ok, Andy. It’ll be ok”, I hushed him. He cried even harder, but I let him know that I wouldn’t leave him.
“I only followed orders. I thought it was just a rescue mission, but it was a trap and the Alpha knew. He knew all this time”, he sobbed.
“I’m going to heal you. Don’t worry about it”, I hushed. He broke the hug at my words.
“But Dr. Williams said”, I hushed him again.
“Who cares about Dr. Williams? He’s just a d**k”, I whispered, and he laughed.
After a while hugging me again, Andrew asked, “Do you think you can heal me?”.
I merely scoffed, “Of course I can. But first, I need to heal your mind. My magic doesn’t work well with a conflicted mind. Will you help me out?”.
He nodded and broke our embrace. I immediately whipped his tears away.
“Well, I hope you’re hungry”, I said, looking for his lunch.
“Why are you giving me lunch today? You never get to see me at lunchtime. It is not what you usually do”, he says in a curious tone.
“Well, I was, you know, worried about some patient that has no patience at all. So, I took my lunch break to have lunch with him”, I explained.
“I see”, he said, smiling at his plate.
When we finished lunch, I was about to take my pills and Andrew stopped my hand.
“Don’t take that”, he said with a scrunched nose.
“Why?”, I asked.
“That’s wolfsbane. I thought you smelled like that because of your patients but you are taking pills”, he said, horrified.
“I know. But since I gave birth to the twins, I have become addicted. My wolf is not happy with me bearing the Alpha’s child and whenever she appears, she wants to kill me. In order to keep myself alive, I take these pills”, I explained.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know”, he said.
“Is ok. Sometimes I can hear her voice and that means I need a new dose”, I say, in an attempt to make him feel less worried about it.
“Why don’t you try talking to her? She might understand why you did that”, he proposed.
“Last time I didn’t take my pills, golden and blue eyes were hunting me, so I prefer to take my pills”, I shrugged.
“If I were you, I would have dropped those pills”, he said confidently.
“If I were you, I would have eaten my breakfast. I guess we need to change rolls”, I mocked.
“Ugh! Fine. But if I try, would you at least drop your pills for once?”, he asked.
“ Ok, let’s make a deal. If you follow all my instructions and get better, I promise to leave my pills. Deal?”, I offered my hand.
“Deal! I can’t wait to see your wolf!”, he said as he shook my hand.
“Not so fast. First you need to eat. In a couple of hours, I’ll be back so I can give you physical therapy, ‘kay?”, I reached the door.
“Roger that”, he replied.
