An Invasion In Air

1175 Words
The clip dated back to 3rd march, 2030. It was a CCTV footage filmed from the exterior side of the building. Everything seemed habitual at first (the same people moving in and out of the doors occasionally) but then out of nowhere some light beam struck the building. The laser shots were so intensely volatile that the building blasted in a second. The whole building was set on fire; then some more shots were fired and ultimately a missile aimed at the building led it to its explosion. The explosion damaged the CCTV and no further as footage was recorded.” Damn! What was that supposed to be? An invasion”, asked Martha, anxiously. Everyone was awe-struck for some moment and they could barely open their mouth to utter any word. The explosion ushered a great variety of questions to spur in their mind. After a minute or so, everyone resumed their seats.”So… we are not alone”, whispered Gill, while he hunched towards the fire.”How can you be so sure…” said Deepesh.”There is no way… that earthly beings could amass such power source which could fuel laser equipped ammunition.” asserted Mazey in a grim tone.”Whatever they are… they have in possession of jeopardizing assets”, added Milo.                                                                                                                                                          No one could predict the future, but Alfred had a premonition of something worse than their current state of scenario. He started to lose his faith on earth and its possible restoration. The rest of the night was consumed in all sorts of theories and science fiction tales that they recalled from Jules Verne’s Novels. Out of the company, only two shared an genuine scientific interest, which didn’t rest on science fiction. Consequently, they were the one to have a clear idea of the threat while the rest of them were joking apart. The sun was reassigned to the sky, laminating the earth. The birds chirped joyously, since they couldn’t comprehend the menaces that the invaders presented. Throughout the night, Mazey remained awoke working on her Palmtop and Alfred scarcely managed to close his eyes. The hard drive possessed no further answers to their queries. The sun lit the atmosphere invaded everyone’s sleep and urged them to break away from their dreams. Alfred’s eyes were glowing scarlet and he looked weak with fatigue. The crew was finally jostling with energy and was ready for anything to come. They were enlightened by their short stay amidst nature. But as time traveled, an pressing need for a new plan was felt.”Hey guys, what if there is another headquarters like thing somewhere else… we must check it, right?” said Jamie. “yeah, there might be one but we hardly know if it exists in this continent or not”, Milo sighed. “Luck or not …. I haven’t seen any sign of their existence in the drive’s in-built GPS”, frowned Mazey. They felt astray, like a boat in a vast sea with no known course to journey. Their only hope for life turned out to be burnt in ashes. They were the last of the living and every successful exhale felt luck.”I am suffocated by your toxic ideas; am going to explore this place a bit” Martha rose to her feet and walked towards the end of the elevation until she visually vanished into the woods. Alfred had to take the heaviest of the blows, every time he planned something, the end went disastrously bad. His plans always ended in a grim compromise. Milo churned up his cup of tea that he managed to make for a delightful breakfast in the middle of stranded woods. He had lots of tea bags and his special mug, which he never refuses to pack his bag with. As the tea leaves boiled in the warm water, a gentle fragrance drifted in the area, serving the right morning mood. Everything seemed to be in alignment, the sun cherished its flamboyant colors, the birds sung in their shrill tone and the aroma of the tea leaves invigorated the forest. A good time always greets a bad one. A hustle rung from the woods, distantly. The loafing crowd faced the end of the woods, alarmed. By every passing moment, the intensity of the susurrus sound deepened. At some point of time, one could hear the boughs shuffling to prevent the pacing object advancing to their directions. The crew stood stiff but relaxed for movement. Just some meters before the object could be in their clear visual, it cried in distress, “Help! Help! Help me!”. A familiar figure appeared from the density of the woods.”You’re back… so soon”, chuckled Matthew.”What about the SOS”, asked Milo. She gasped a lot of air and rested her body over Mazey’s shoulders. She was completely panic-stricken and it took her quite a fair amount of time to reveal the cause of her panic. “You won’t believe it. What I just saw… they were taller and wider than usual humans and wore black robes that stick to their bodies. They also wore a helmet like thing but way too advanced than usual motorcycles helmets. I stayed out of their sight to check about their whereabouts and then I saw spaceships” she puffed. Alfred frantically asked her,” Do you mean they were the things which shot down the HQ”.  Martha nodded in approval.”I believe it’s worth a check then, what do you think about it, Milo?” asked Alfred.”Surely… we must be aware of any sort of foreign existence”, replied Milo. They hurried to the end of the cliff, fighting unruly branches and twigs in the way.  Beneath the cliff was an open low lying flat land, swarming with gigantic vessels. They were the Spaceships that Martha claimed to be. Amidst those crafts were fleets of armed creatures in black shiny robes, patrolling about. At the edge of the forest, the crew hid before the trees in their shadows. The trees provided an excellent camouflage, which helped them peep, remaining unnoticed. But, it seemed that they were unable to get a clear visual of the invaders.”I and Milo will crawl to those boulders to have a clear look”, whispered Alfred. They changed frenzying looks; Milo nodded and looked at Alfred. They squatted and crept to the boulders that were a meter distant. The rocks were enormous in size and their bodies traced beyond its edges. They remained still, in their positions, listening attentively to the far-off screams of the Invaders. They were shouting at the top of their tones; their voice seemed to be computerized and their speech remained unknown. Milo’s legs cramped but he remained immobile for a minute and then suspended his arm to support his legs. The moment he dragged his legs from their position, his body went completely out of equilibrium. His hip hit the boulder and it went out of its static position. The boulder swayed forward and then fell of the cliff with a raucous bang. The sound clearly drifted their attention to Alfred and Milo. They were stunned. Alfred was clueless of the blunder that Milo committed. Milo’s facial expression remained out of anyone’s comprehension.
