He left the room, shutting the door behind him. She sat down with her back against it, hugging her knees to her chest. Lily came over, rubbing her head against Elizabeth’s legs before she jumped back up on the bed.
Elizabeth went and picked her up, sitting back down with her back against the door and putting the cat on her lap. She scratched behind Lily’s ears, setting her off purring loudly. The silence from downstairs was deafening.
It seemed like an eternity had passed with nothing happening downstairs. Finally, she heard the door open. But no one seemed to come into the house, and she realised Sawyer had left the cabin when he locked the door behind him.
