Chapter 12: Bunnies

1383 Words
Kael's POV I smiled as I walked to Milky's house. I didn't know the exact reason why I made this request. But it makes me feel good that I get to go to her house too. It makes us feel more like friends. Friends? Is that what we are? I was about to knock on her door when I saw her coming from the backyard, she was holding a bunch of carrots, she had mud on her face and a little more on her body, she also had an apron around her waist, it made her look cute in a weird way. She looked a lot different than when I saw her at school today. “Hi… Kael…” she said, like she wasn't expecting me to be here. “You look like someone who fell into a pit,” I said with a soft giggle. She frowned and wrapped her hands around her body, staining her clothes even more. Did she just dig out those carrots? What is she? A farmer? “Thanks Kael,” she grumbled. She opened the door and walked in. “Come in Kael.” I walked in. Not to be mean, but her house was decorated poorly. The furniture was old and the space was tight. I found myself a seat. “I would be right back,” she muttered, going into the room. I helped myself out by taking out my books and textbooks. She came back, dressed in clean cloth, with a few books in her hand. “Sorry I kept you waiting.” She sat opposite me. “No worries, it's good that you don't look like a muddy lady now.” She inhaled a deep breath before starting with the session. I watched her closely, every word she spoke fixed into my head. “You get me, right?” She said. She might be a little disturbed that I wasn't responding to her. She didn't know I was listening to her closely. She explains things to me in a soft, understandable manner. She is the best tutor I could ever have. “Yeah I do,” I gave a slight nod. She continued explaining stuff to me. We rounded up the session in two hours. I arranged my stuff and I got going. Milky saw me out, I think she wanted to go round up the stuff she was doing before I came. Out of nowhere, two little bunnies sprinted before me. The bunnies were white, furry and cute. Milky paced around, trying to get them nothing in place. “You have bunnies?” I asked. “Yes, I was trying to feed them when you came, but I didn't as I had to attend to you, now they are upset.” The bunnies are upset? Is that why they are hopping around? “Ohh… you should have told me.” “I wanted to, but you were too busy calling me a muddy lady,” she hissed. She took that wrongly. I didn't mean it in a harsh manner, it was just a casual joke. “Alright, I will help you with the bunnies,” I dropped my backpack to the floor. I assisted her in catching the bunnies. It looked like an easy thing to do, until I dived into it, the bunnies were making me twist and turn around. Milky laughed heartily as she watched me struggle to get them in place. Her laughter sounds like a melodious tone to my ears. She should laugh more often. “It isn't funny, you know,” I said. “It is, you should see the way you are running around,” she laughed once more, her laughter was so contagious that I also had to laugh with her. I could run around over and over again just to see her laugh so genuinely once more. It took time, but I caught the bunnies and I put them in their cage. No more laughter, just a weird, empty feeling between us. “Should I get you a drink?” She asked, I nodded positively. She rushed in and went to get me a drink. I sat on her porch, it was getting dark already, but I didn't mind it. No matter the time I return home, it's still gonna be just me in the house. I was expecting no one and no one was expecting me. My parents won't be home until next month, it's only the cleaning lady and the chauffeur. They don't give a f**k about me, I made sure they do not meddle in my business. Milky came back with two juice boxes in her hands, “Have this,” she gave me one. “Thanks,” I took it from her. She stared at me for what felt like 5 mins, did I say something wrong? Why was she staring so hard? “Milky?” “Did… you just…” “Did I what?” “Nevermind Kael,” she muttered. “Alright, bye then.” I stood up and I took my leave. “Bye,” her voice faded behind me. I wish I could stay with her the whole night, I don't mean to be a creep, and her mum would soon be back, but staying with her makes me feel less lonely. Finally, I admitted it to myself - I am lonely. I have a lot of friends, my hockey buddies, but no one gets me as much as Milky does. And I feel calm around Milky and no one else. I guess it's because she has a soft personality and it's slowly rubbing off on me. I met Adrienne sitting at my porch, busy playing on his phone. He raised his gaze to look at me, but quickly shifted back to what he was doing. “Hey bro,” he said. “Couldn't you go inside?” I asked him, surprised as to why he was sitting outside. “Nah… this place is cool,” he continued his game. “Why didn't you attend practice?” “Something came up,” I opened the door and walked in, and he stood up and followed me. Was he waiting outside for me? The workers at my house knew him to be my friend, they will definitely let him in. “Cool… but coach isn't pleased with you not attending practice,” Adrienne muttered, settling into a sofa, his eyes still glued to his screen. “Missing one practice doesn't mean I can't play well anymore.” I didn't tell him my reasons, I do not want anyone to know about Milky being my tutor, it doesn’t make any sense. “I know bro, just saying.” I quickly went to drop my bag in my room and rushed back to Adrienne since we could have a little chat and maybe play some video games. I settled into the sofa with him and we started playing Mortal Combat. “The girl?” he raised an eyebrow at me, while still playing. “What girl?” “The girl with glasses.” Ohh… Milky? Why is he asking about Milky? “Yeah… what's up with her?” “You guys aren't… you know?” Dating? Why would I even date Milky? She is my tutor and I am her student and at school, I am her bully and she is just a nerdy girl. “We aren't Adrienne. Why would you even think that?” “You haven't dated anyone for months, and you brought her to my party,” he explained. “I brought her to your party as a friend, and not a girlfriend.” I focused on the screen, making sure Adrienne wasn't using this stupid conversation as a trick to distract me. “Ohh… So you guys are friends now, I thought you hated her?” “I do not hate her, I only hate her glasses and the way she says sorry stupidly.” That's been my main reason for always picking on her. Because I knew she would say sorry even when she isn't at fault. “I hope that's it,” he snorted. Only God knows what he is thinking, he is always thinking things in the most absurd way ever.
