Akira's POV
“Pictures?”
“Yeah, Camilla said there is a photo booth,” I explained to him.
He stared at me for a few seconds, probably surprised at my request. Why did I even say that?
“It's… not.. I don't have to…”
“It's fine, let's go together,” he cuts me off.
A bright smile appeared on my face. Kael is letting me take pictures!
“Thank you.”
I quickly got to my feet and he did too, we found our way to the booth.
There were people there, so we had to wait in a line. I thought Kael would get angry as he hated this sort of thing, but he didn't. He waited in the line patiently with me.
I stood eagerly till it got to our turn. As we entered the photo booth, the lights went off.
“What the f**k?” Kael cursed.
While I looked anxiously. We waited in line all this while and something had to go wrong when it became our turn. It's unfair!
Kael took a look at the camera, “It's still working, only the lights are off. Maybe it's a fuse problem,” he said, filling me with hope.
He took out his phone and turned on the rear flashlight- which brightened up the boot a little.
He then tapped on a button. “Now we can take pictures,” he smirked.
“3,2,1… Click,” an automated voice said.
The snap caught me unaware. I was still looking at Kael surprisingly.
“Make a pose Milky, you ruined the shot,” he said tapping on the button again. But this time I did the bunny ear pose, while Kael watched me.
“You ruined the shot this time Kael,” I told him.
“You looked like a rabbit with that pose,” he mocked.
“No, I looked cute,” I retorted.
He mimicked the pose, while I folded my arms across my chest… the automated voice sounded again, no one pressed the button, we were both caught unaware.
We forced ourselves into the two fingers up pose for the last picture… Hopefully it comes out good.
We walked out of the booth, I smiled with a bit of satisfaction, the lights didn't ruin our shot. We collected the photos immediately after. We burst into laughter at the second and third pictures, they were both disasters.
Kael handed me the pictures.
“Aren't you gonna keep some for yourself?” I asked him.
“Alright,” he took the fourth picture from me and he placed it in his chest pocket.
Why was Kael agreeing to all my requests today?
On our way back to the hall, I excused myself for Kael. I had to use the restroom. After I was done, I rinsed off my hand at the sink.
“You must think you are special,” a voice came from behind me.
Recognizing the voice, I turned to her.
“Hey Linda,” I said.
“You know… I never thought Kael would stoop so low,” she spat, her voice laced with bitterness.
“I don't know what…”
“Yeah you don't, you are so gullible, you can never know anything,” she cuts me off.
I was used to Linda saying hurtful things to me. But tonight, her words hurt more than a razor.
“Do you know what's best for you? Stay away from Kael. You aren't and you'll never be good enough for him. b***h!” She uttered, walking majestically out of the restroom.
My eyes welled in tears, no matter how I dress or how I act, I would never fit into their circle. I wasn't trying to fit in either, but Kael is getting me involved in all this.
I ran out of the bathroom, I didn't return to the hall, I needed to get away from them. I already had doubts about being here and Linda’s words just justified them. This isn't a place for you, Akira.
I took slow steps across the road. I knew this was gonna be a long walk to my house, but I risked it anyway. It was way better than being in the wrong place.
>>>>>>>>
I knew I had stirred trouble as I watched Kael walk up to me. My hands tightened around my textbook.
“You!” He used his right hand to hit the wall beside me, I almost thought he was gonna hit me instead.
His eyes were dark and his facial expression wasn't so friendly. He looked kinda scary.
“Why did you do that?” He asked.
How do I explain this to him? I avoided him all through the weekend, but deep down, I knew I would still have to face him at school on Monday- today.
“I… I…” I stammered.
“Do you know what you put me through? I searched all around for you, only to find out you left an hour ago,” his tone was harsh.
“I am sorry.”
“I hate it when you say sorry like that… Sorry can't fix things.”
What should I say then? His gaze pierced and through me, I was almost melting.
“Why did you leave?”
“It was an emergency,” I lied.
“Don't ever do that again… Don't lie to me.”
How did he know I was lying? I am so bad at this.
“I won't ask again, Milky,” he muttered.
“I… I…”
“Did someone say something to you?” He asked. I shifted my gaze from him, giving him no response.
“So I am right then,” he scoffed. “Who was it? I won't hesitate to punish them.”
“Why would you punish someone because of me?” I asked, finding the courage to look at him.
“Because, only I have the right to say things to you. They don't. So I have to punish them.” He said, like it was a normal thing to do. He is crazy.
