21 “HOLD ON!” I yelled at Sheydu and Veyada. I debated whether to cross the valley to rescue people or head for high ground, but the water already streamed into the valley. If we tried to cross that, we’d be washed away. Sheydu had abandoned her silent mode and broadcast an immediate alarm to the team. They had the craft and it had already proven its ability to act like a boat. Meanwhile, the opening in the mountainside was still increasing. Chunks of rock burst outward and then bigger chunks of rock. And then a spray of water that turned into a torrent of white froth that streamed into the valley. It was going to be close whether we would make it to the bottom of the incline. I had no idea how far up this vehicle would go, and to what level the water would rise. That lake was huge.
