Chapter 5

Have you ever avoided talking to someone so bad that it starts to stress you and only later you want to really talk to them? Well, I am in that dilemma right now. I have been ignoring and avoiding Leo for weeks.

I am sure you are wondering why I have been ignoring him. Well Leo is every girl’s dream boyfriend, his tall at least 6’2 maybe taller, has a trim build with strong arms and legs, and sexy and don’t be surprised how I know that, almost every girl on campus has seen him half naked as he plays soccer. Leo is hot as f**k, we all want him but not me.

Leo is the type of guy that just steers trouble in your life and the more I avoid him the more I bump into him. After the day we met in the library I spotted him snooping around and he looked like he was looking for me.

I reminded myself that it could be coincidental but then I spotted him jogging in the morning during the same time I went for my jog. Again, I thought it was coincidental but when I kept meeting him everywhere including the coffee shop, I knew he was following me. I would always notice him approaching me or waving at me whenever I met him, so I stopped using a lot of routes on campus because of him.

I have been stressing myself out trying to avoid any and every interaction with him. But how long can I avoid him?

It’s Wednesday afternoon, I have finished my classes for the week and just got back to my room. We have a long weekend coming up till Wednesday the following week and everyone is making plans to travel home or go on a vacation.

I called home last night to check in on my grandparents since I haven’t spoken to them in a while and Mary the lady of the house informed me, they have traveled to Africa for work and won’t be back for another month. With them being away it is pointless for me to travel back home so I think I will stay on campus.

Suzie isn’t going home either, she said she is not up for a long flight to South America just for a week so I think we are both staying in school.

“What do you think we should do during this break?” she asks after throwing herself on her bed.

“Is it just us staying?” I ask.

“Yes, Liz has been summoned by her dad to visit them in Germany, so she is leaving this evening.”

“Yikes!”

“Yep, gal gat no choice but to visit her family.”

“And Kristen?”

“Remember her new boo?”

“Mmmhmm.” I nod my head.

“Yeah, she mentioned something about a planned getaway for the two of them.”

“Nice, I guess it shall just be the two of us.” I am not including our other friends because we aren’t that close. Aside from Kristen and Suzie the only other friend is Liz who introduced us all to Joe, Chloe, Mark, and the others but we only hang out at parties and go out together nothing else.

“We need to find something fun to do, if I leave it up to you, you will make us study the entire break.” She says in a complaining tone.

“Well, we do need to catch up in corporate finance, we have a test in two weeks so…”

The door swings open and Kristen walks in.

“Pack your bags ladies we are going on a trip.” She says sounding very excited.

“What!” both Suzie and I say at the same time except I am shocked, and Suzie is excited and now sitting upright.

“A trip.” Kristen smiles.

Just like that our plans just changed. I can’t protest because Kristen will start lecturing me about how I never do anything fun with them.

“Where are we going?” I ask.

“My parent’s vocational home. It’s close by, just an hour’s drive or less from here. Hiring a car and we can drive down there tomorrow. Suzie, you have your license, right?”

“Yes.” Suzie smiles.

“Great, I need an extra driver in the car.”

“Yeah I am so excited.” Suzie starts cheering.

I might as well seem part of this conversation.

“Okay, so what do we need to get for the trip?” I ask.

“Good question.” Kristen joins me on my bed. “We need to go to the mall now and get some supplies. It’s a beach house we are going to, and I need a new swimsuit for that.” Kristen says.

“We need to get alcohol and snacks, right?” Suzie jumps in.

“Yess!” Kristen responds.

“Since we are leaving tomorrow, why not go to the mall now?” I suggest.

“Great idea.” Suzie jumps up.

We all get ready and leave for the mall.

“Ria why aren’t you picking a bikini?” Suzie asks me bringing me back from my thoughts.

If you ask me, I am really exhausted, we have gone round shopping for the past two and a half hours. We have bought food, snacks, alcohol, and everything else Kristen suggested we might need. Our last stop was the current shop we are in to get swimsuits, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

“I already have everything I need.” I respond.

“I didn’t see you get a bikini.” Suzie looks at me with a questioning look on her face.

“I think you should consider getting a bikini, you might get lucky.” Kristen winks at me and Suzie giggles.

“Lucky with what fishing?” I ask.

“No silly, you might come back with a boyfriend.”

“I don’t want a boyfriend.”

“Okay even just someone to make you feel good.” She suggests and I roll my eyes skywards.

“I am not hooking up with anyone.” I say.

“Babe, you need too, when last did you get a service?” Suzie whispers so that only Kristen and I hear her.

“How is that important or any of your business?” I ask the both of them.

They both know I am a virgin and haven’t considered doing it yet with any of the silly guys at Boston and will probably graduate a virgin. But Kristen still insists I need to make out with a guy occasionally just to feel good and have s*x when I am ready.

“Lighten up a little will you.” Kristen pokes my side. “We aren’t forcing you to do anything, we just want you to loosen up and enjoy yourself.”

“Kristen is right, we just want you to have fun.”

I look at them, they both mean well and want me to enjoy my life in university. I will try my best to loosen up and have fun like they want.

“Okay, I will give in into this fun you want us to have.” I give them a small smile.

“Oh yes, we promise you nothing but fun. Now let me find something sexy for you.” Kristen says and then wonders off in search for a bikini while I look for more sunscreen and other skin care products.

An hour later we are done with all the shopping and back in our room packing.

“I will see you ladies tomorrow morning.” Kristen says before walking out of our room.

“What time are we leaving?” I ask.

“Mmmm I think 11am should be good.” Kristen says.

“Great, I can sleep in.” Suzie smiles.

“Kris before you leave, can I come by later to borrow that cute black weekend bag?” I ask.

“Yes and no. You can borrow it but best you come with me now rather than later, going to sleep over at Chase’s.”

“Okay, lets go then. Suzie see you soon.”

Kristen and I walk out together heading to her room.

I have an unsettling feeling about this weekend. I just hope I enjoy it and we all have fun.
