Chapter 11An interstate highway stretched through a barren desert. About a hundred miles or so from the city, it passed through a small township with a sparse population. Most of the people here lived in RVs year-round, but a fair number of them used this remote area as a short-term stopping point in their ongoing road life. Cheap roadside attractions and swap meets were local highlights, but even these brought few tourists. An outlying auto body shop lingered near a dilapidated gas station and convenience store.
