Betty's House

Betty looked at her wristwatch it was past 9pm already and Mike was yet to show up, she sighed,,not knowing if she should feel relieved or bothered,,this was her new found love,,bt the past kept reminding her of wat she felt she would never be able to ever forget,,"The life she took" she could still feel his breath on her neck as he took his last breathe,,she could still see the shirt soaked so perfectly in his blood,,it seemed like a normal red shirt,,,she sighed!! If only she had listened to her aunt,if only she knew that that night would change the course of her life,,she would have remained hidden and not show up,,but here she was waiting for someone who she was ready to start her life again with,,and he was not yet here,,could this be a sign that she never deserved love and should stop trying to find it!,,or was she actually paying for her sins?? Just as she stood up to leave,the whisk of his perfume hit her nose,,the same smell she felt on dat sunny day,,he asked her to help him choose some roses for his sick mother in the florist shop,,she had looked up to him,,and saw the most handsome face she could remember,,,and their love story began The same smell hit her again,,she scowled and sat down again,,ready to let him know she was upset with him for keeping her waiting He sat down,,with an innocent smile "Sorry I kept u waiting" "too many patients in the hospital" I had to look for an excuse to sneak out at last" she nodded not sure of what to answer He looked closely at her " you look beautiful" she nodded again,adjusting her collars,,,not sure how to accept the compliment,,he was the first man to compliment her with such sincerity,,she only prayed and wished he wasn't one of those men,,,,,, "Are u still angry with me? He asked,,,perplexed by her silence,,,"No not at all" she quickly said He held her hands in his,,,she felt the warmth of his hand and for a spilt second,,she felt everything would be alright,,she could love and be loved in return,, "What would u like to order" the waiter's voice startled her out of her thoughts They placed their orders and talked freely with each other most of the night,,they gradually felt more at ease with each other as the conversation continued,,he was a physiologist who just moved into her city three months ago,,and worked with one of the most reputable hospitals in the city,,he had no much friends and would like to know and spend more time with her She told him she was an entrepreneur who lived most of her life in the city,,and was working on a small dream project of hers,,when he asked her what the dream project was she smiled and said "I want to purge the evil out of society" he laughed out loud and she was surprised at our loud he sounded,,," seems like a secret mission" he said If you don'twant to open up about it now,,its fine,bt I guess with time ur secret mission will be revealed he said,,,she nodded,,he seemed like a gentleman,,they've being going out and talking for the past two the,, yet he had never intimated getting intimate with her,,,or pushing her to,,he was always understanding even when she seemed to reserved some certain information about herself Time past on swiftly and as he drove her home,,,she was wondering our long she would keep this man before the past comes hunting her again,,just like before,,he looked over at her,,,saw her worried face,,and asked if she was fine,,she nodded,,,"again" he thought,,most of her responses where in nods,,he was yet to really understand her,,but he was willing to give it a chance and try as best as he could to understand her,,he hadn't felt like this since he lost his wife with their unborn baby,,,he remembered how lost he was,that he wished to end his life every single day and reunite with them,,but he kept remembering his wife's voice as she drew her last breathe,, "Promise me,,u will live on and find someone to love and cherish and start ur family" he was silent not knowing what to say to her "Promise me" she said desperately "so I can be at peace in death,,Please" he could see the effort she was making to utter the words and get his response before she would give up,,"I will,I promise he said" his heart so heavy it felt like a big weight hanging on his body "I will" he said again putting his face in her hands "Thank you" she said and those were her last words He had relocated to another city,,five years later and he had Betty,she had being the first girl he had being able to look at closely since he lost his wife,,she was not overly pretty,but something about her made him attracted to her,,he couldn't actually place what it was ,,but he had felt drawn to her,,and since he met her,,for the first time in five years,,he had stopped dreaming about his wife "Are you fine" he asked again ,,she nodded "again" he thought,,,she hardly expressed herself,,how was he to understand or know what was going on with her,,if she hardly expressed herself,,but he was ready to let her open up to him and trust him,,"You know u can talk to me about anytin" she smiled and nodded "again" "Thank you for today,,u made it worth it for me" she said smiling sadly ,he smiled He pulled up at her house ,,she got down and he thought of walking her to her door,,but didn't know how she would feel about it he was about to open the door of his car,,when he saw her standing frozen still at the door,, looking like she had seen a ghost He rushed towards her,,,,,,,,,
