I sat in my little office and drew up today's schedule for Mr. Adams. I had to hurry as I was already late. I will never be late again. This man attached great importance to punctuality and he had indirectly threatened to fire me. My eyes burned slightly and I adjusted my square glasses on my nose. I put the last word in the table and sent a print job to the printer. I'll never go out with friends during the week again. Anyway, today's confrontation with Adams was a lesson for me. Exactly a week ago, Adams had assumed power in this company. I had been working with this man for exactly a week and had already gone through the most stress in my life. He expected too much and I was constantly afraid of doing something wrong. My fear caused me to actually do everything wrong. This man was a f*****g perfectionist. His uncle had been much friendlier and always in a good mood. If you hadn't gotten something done in time, it hadn't been a big problem. He'd never made a big wave out of it. At Adams, no one dared not meet his demands. Far too great was the fear and respect towards him. "Well you latecomer" I would be greeted by my colleague Liam. "Shut up Liam" I replied, slightly annoyed. The sermon Adams had given me earlier had really ruined my mood. "You don't seem to be in a good mood today," Liam remarked in amusement, grinning at me. I just rolled my eyes and pulled the daily schedule out of the printer. "What makes you think that?" I asked rhetorically and stormed out of the office. I heard my sister's assistant laugh behind me. Idiot I thought to myself, grinning slightly. Sharing the office with Liam was quite amusing. He was always up for a good joke. I had to hurry! I hurried to Mr. Adam's office and knocked. "In". I walked into his office with trembling legs and found my boss in his office chair. He glanced up at me and the next second he was staring back at his laptop before typing away. "Mr. Adams, your daily routine" I explained and took the last few steps towards his desk. He wore a tailored suit, as he did every day, and not a single crease could be seen in his clothes. His hair was stylishly cut and properly styled with a bit of wax. His square face was shaved almost every day and the green eyes always exuded a certain authority. With a professional detachment, I stopped in front of his desk and cleared my throat slightly to get his attention. I had the authoritarian atmosphere in his office to thank for my sudden nervousness. Mr. Adams finally took his eyes off the laptop and turned to me. He closed the laptop with one hand and leaned back in his chair. His green eyes were now on me and I quickly looked down at the paper in my hand. His piercing green eyes were really disconcerting. "So Mr. Adams...first..." I began and read him the daily schedule down to the last detail. When I finished, I gasped. I should have read more slowly and much more clearly. I looked up from the paper in my hand and met Mr. Adam's green eyes, which were still on me. How could a man make me so nervous? I couldn't think straight once this man was in the same room as me. "Cross out the last point and replace it with a conversation with Miss Williams" came the deep and calm voice of my boss and made me prick up my ears. What did he want to talk to Sophia about? I shook my head slightly to dismiss these unnecessary thoughts. What do I care? Oh yes, nothing. The two would certainly talk about new upcoming projects. Just like Sophia had done with his uncle back then. However, I became aware of the slightly confused look of my boss and I widened my eyes. Mr. Adams rose from his chair and stood to his full height. He had his hands in his pockets and was looking down at me with a raised eyebrow. I wasn't very tall even in my high heels, so I had to crane my head up to look him in the eye. He certainly thought that I would deny him the change regarding the conversation with Sophia. Damn. I suddenly nodded hastily like a maniac and gave him a fake smile. "Of course, I'll change it immediately Mr. Adams!" I said enthusiastically. Just shut up Madison and don't make it worse than it already is! Although his desk separated us, his pleasant scent came to my liking. For a philistine he smelled damn good. I quickly took my eyes off him. What was I thinking of? "Pen.. I need a pen," I murmured to myself to jot down the change on the sheet of paper, but couldn't find one near me. Where can I get a pen now? I didn't have my cell phone with me either, and knowing myself, I'd forget to change that little thing. "Miss Smith," Mr. Adams' deep voice snapped me out of my thoughts again. I looked up at him quickly. He reached into his expensive jacket and pulled out a pen. Adams pointed the pen in my direction and gave me his typically monotone expression. Was it an indirect request to take the pen from him? I stretched out my arm to take the pen from him. Actually, I wanted to take the pen out of his hand like a normal person. But I was so nervous that I yanked the pen out of Mr. Adam's hand with such force that it landed on the floor. "Sorry!" I stuttered immediately, hating myself so much for my clumsiness at that moment. Why was I making a fool of myself in front of my new boss? At some point he will fire me if things go on like this! I quickly bent down and picked up the pen. Before noting the change on the sheet, I caught a glimpse of Mr. Adams, who was looking at me as if I'd lost my mind. The expression on his face made me blush slightly. Why could I never behave normally around him! Embarrassing things had to happen to me in front of him every time. "And changed!" I said and forced a smile at him. "I'll go then," I said and took off. I reached for the doorknob, remembering I still had his pen with me. I paused and quickly turned back to Mr. Adams. "Your pen-" "You can keep it," he interrupted, uninterested, and sat back down at his laptop. He probably didn't want me in his office for a second longer. I spun around, wanting to get out of here as quickly as possible. You've embarrassed yourself enough in front of him for the rest of your life. However, the door was locked behind me, so I cried out easily and only just saved myself from an embarrassing encounter with the door by reflexively pressing my hands against the door. Holy s**t. I just wanted to get out of here inconspicuously! I glanced back at Mr. Adams. He shook his head slightly, as if he had taken in everything while his gaze rested on the laptop. I looked down at the pen in my hand and sighed. That was a great start to the week!
