With a big smile I walked into my office and greeted Liam.
"The time has come. It's Friday!" I squeaked and got a bewildered look from Liam.
He didn't look half as happy as me.
Today was not only the last day of work for the week, but also the day I had my date with Kyle.
Not only was Kyle a super cute student, but he was exactly the type of man I found extremely attractive at the moment.
His teddy bear brown eyes and wild curls made my heart beat faster.
"I shouldn't have gone to a party yesterday," Liam grumbled, ruffling his light-colored hair.
You could see his exhaustion. He had dark circles under his eyes and his hair was scattered on his head.
"That's not very exemplary Mr. Johnson," I teased, shaking my head while trying to look serious.
"You don't do very exemplary things outside of work either, Miss Smith," he countered with a grin and infected me with it.
"I would get ready quickly if I were you, before Sophia witnesses your current state," I remarked, laughing, and sat down at my PC.
I heard Liam groan loudly.
"I can't believe she's your sister. Are you sure you're not adopted?"
I laughed and shook my head.
"Mr. Johnson, that's not how I expressed myself," he imitated my sister in a falsely bright voice.
"Mr. Johnson here, Mr Johnson there. It's really exhausting," he continued to complain.
Sophia could be really annoying with her perfectionist nature.
Since she lived with my father anyway and had grown up with him, I had relatively little to complain about.
Also, thankfully, I didn't work with her.
Adams wasn't exactly better than her, but I hated Sophia a lot more than him.
You could say that Sophia and I were complete opposites of each other.
She was successful and the important part of a big company while I was the little assistant.
She was a perfectionist while I was the biggest chub on earth.
She also put too much value on education and loved books.
Of course, education was also very important to me, but I didn't have to study 100 semesters to be successful.
I was very modest on the subject.
"She's no worse than Adams. I'm lucky you're not his assistant," I said encouragingly, reading through all of my boss' emails.
"Yes you are right. It can always get worse" Liam teased me and stretched.
We joked around a bit while I finished Mr. Adam's daily schedule.
He had an important meeting with some business people in the first few hours.
As always, I had to accompany him to the meeting and record everything.
That's what I hated most about my job.
I adjusted my short skirt and pulled my reading glasses back down on my nose.
Without my glasses, I couldn't see the digits on the DinA4 sheet in my hand.
Since the glasses were stuck in my hair, they loosened a few strands.
I pushed the strands back into my bun and just tucked an annoying one behind my ear.
I put my hand on the doorknob and pushed down. The door was locked.
Where was Mr Adams?
I turned on my heel and saw someone run out of the elevator.
To be precise, it was my stuffy boss who came running in my direction with big strides.
Speaking of the devil.
His tall frame was today in a dark blue suit and underneath he wore a white shirt with a dark blue tie.
You could tell from afar that his suit was very expensive and that his body wasn't wrinkled underneath.
He had a straight and brisk gait.
He had one hand in his pocket while holding a file in the other.
His bright eyes lit up from afar and were focused somewhere behind me.
When running fast, a single dark strand fell on his forehead and made this man look even more attractive than he already was.
His high cheekbones stood out in his face and he looked like a magazine model.
How old was he actually?
He was definitely older than me.
"Good morning, Mr. Ad-" I wanted to greet him but he cut me off.
“Note down all key statements of the meeting. I want to have another look at your notes later, and this time take better care of your handwriting," Mr. Adams interrupted in a rather rude way, and turned right.
He had neither looked at me nor returned my good morning.
Arrogant bastard I thought through gritted teeth.
Was he saying I had ugly handwriting?
Maybe he should sit in my place and write down his complex and long sentences.
With quick steps I followed him to the meeting room.
Since he was much taller than me, he also took very large steps. It was hard to follow his every step with my small legs.
Even on a fine Friday, this man had no mercy on me.
After the meeting he had given me some tasks to do.
By some taskshe probably meant a huge stack of paper.
Since the meeting lasted a long time, we didn't finish until the lunch break.
I will do the work orders after the lunch break.
The meeting had been dead boring.
"I'll bet you I can hit that trash can with the apple over there," I said to Liam, who was sitting across from me, picking up my half-eaten apple.
He, Lisa, and I would spend almost every lunch break on the company's rooftop, teasing each other with stupid bets.
"Oh yeah?" replies Liam provocatively.
"The trash can is 10 meters away from you. Also, too many colleagues walk past it," Lisa stated, leaning back in her chair.
"You can't do this," Liam said, crossing his arms over his chest with a grin.
"I know how bad your aim is," he continued.
"And what if so?" I asked.
"Then...hmmm" he mused aloud.
"Then you go to the colleague over there and confess your love to her," I said, giggling.
"Don't talk nonsense," Liam replied, rolling his eyes.
She was taken and her boyfriend picked her up every day. The whole company knew about it.
"Are you afraid that I might win?" I asked provocatively.
"Deal" he let me provoke him and we shook hands.
I turned towards the trash can and waited for the perfect moment.
Luckily, I hit the trash can on the first try and squealed with delight.
Lisa laughed too and hit me.
Liam's eyes widened at first, but then he shook his head.
"I can't believe it," he mumbled and stood up.
"The colleague back there with the blond hair" I helped him with a grin.
He looked at me sullenly and made his way to her.
Lisa and I watched the scenario I had created with great interest.
Long story short: Liam received a good slap in the face from his colleague.
Lisa and I could hardly breathe from laughing.
That was way too cool.
Liam looked at me grimly and rubbed his right cheek.
We had a golden rule. No matter what the bet, nobody is allowed to retreat. You have to face the consequences of the bets.
It took a while for us to calm down and smile broadly at Liam.
Liam was silent for a while and drank from his coke bottle.
"If I manage to throw my lighter in the colleague's coffee cup over there, you have to fulfill a task that I will set you" Liam said challengingly and jerked his lighter out of his pocket.
I followed his gaze and saw the cup five tables away from us.
He seriously thought he was going to hit the cup?
The colleague holding the cup could drink from it at any time. Then Liam would have lost.
"Go ahead. Much luck. But if you don't score, then you'll buy me a round of shopping at Louis Vuitton this weekend," I said confidently and we hit each other.
"Deal."
I watched with amusement as Liam positioned himself while sitting and held out his hand with the lighter.
He was focused and covered one eye.
As if he would ever make it. It was almost impossible for Liam to throw at the right time and for the lighter to fly far enough to fall into the cup without missing or hitting the colleague.
I looked at the colleague who took a sip of his coffee and put the cup back on the table. He was deep in conversation with someone.
The whole company knew about mine and Liam's bets. Most got really upset about it, while others ignored us.
I grabbed my water bottle and took a sip.
Meanwhile, I followed Liam's throw and choked hard as the lighter landed in a single toss in my colleague's cup.
I started coughing like crazy and Lisa patted my back.
"Who was that?!" the colleague got upset and looked for the culprit.
Laughing, Liam turned to me and waggled his pale eyebrows.
I was still shocked and pouted angrily.
"Don't challenge a winner Madison Smith," he said arrogantly, sticking his tongue out at me in amusement.
The colleague was still upset and I narrowed my eyes at Liam.
"What do I have to do?" I gave up.
"Hmm... let me think about it," Liam said, mockingly thoughtful, until he started grinning widely.
"You have to grab the very first guy who enters the terrace and kiss him" he said and I choked again.
This time on my own spit.
"Are you crazy?!" I asked out of breath.
Even Lisa's mouth fell open.
"You had no mercy on me either."
"You can't expect that from me. I don't do it," I protested.
"Don't be a bad loser. I also did what you asked of me. I even got a scrub thanks to you. It wouldn't be fair if you backed down, wouldn't it, Lisa?" Liam said, looking at Lisa.
"He's actually right," she said with a mischievous grin.
"Give me another job. Anything but don't kiss!"
“You don't have to kiss him on the lips. Cheek will do," he said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"What a mercy," I murmured, rolling my eyes.
"Let's go Madison. Hurry up before the break ends" Liam rushed me and groaning I stood up.
I looked in the direction where everyone was walking up to the terrace to spend their lunch break here.
A colleague walked in, followed by another colleague and a colleague.
The colleague looked about in his mid-30s and I had to swallow.
Why did I even take part in these stupid bets?
I would quickly kiss the guy on the cheek and explain why I did this.
Hopefully no one would notice, except for his two companions.
"He'll be happy about a kiss though" Lisa said giggling while I got up.
"I hate you Liam" I growled, he grinned broadly at me.
Sighing, I ran in quick steps in the direction of the colleague and my stomach clenched nervously.
This is going to be so embarrassing!
I exhaled loudly and closed my eyes.
With your eyes closed it would be much faster and less embarrassing.
I opened my eyes briefly to see that I was walking in the right direction as well.
The brown-haired colleague was quite a bit taller than me and ran towards me, laughing. He seemed busy talking to his companion.
Then I closed my eyes again and quickened my steps.
After a moment I stood on tiptoe and stretched out my hand.
When my hand touched the coworker's neck, I pursed my lips and reached up to plant a quick kiss on his cheek.
However, my eyelids shot open when a masculine and very familiar scent hit my nostrils.
That....
My eyes widened even further as I met green eyes looking down at me with confusion and a touch of indignation.
Stop stop!
But before I could pull away, my lips were already on my boss's freshly shaved and square cheek.
My body stiffened and my heart skipped a beat.
I could have sworn everyone on the terrace held their breath and suddenly it went dead quiet.
Did I seriously just grab my boss's neck and kiss him on the cheek?
Oh god please let this be just a bad nightmare that I'm about to wake up from and laugh!
But the big and strong body of my boss that I was leaning against was pure reality.
Where did the other colleague go?!
"Madison Smith!" my sister's angry voice reached my ears.
