Something brushed my cheek, tickling me lightly. I jumped half asleep and tilted my face to the other side. Something tickled my other cheek again and I narrowed my eyes. That something still brushed my cheek lightly and I stretched. What was that? Why didn't it stop? Slowly and resignedly I opened my eyes and looked at a white shirt. Moment... I was resting my head against something hard, but that hard something was comfortably warm. I also felt a strong arm wrapped around my waist and the scent that reached my nostrils through the shirt gave me goosebumps on my arms. I widened my eyes and was suddenly wide awake. My gaze slid up the white shirt to a loosened dark blue tie. I gulped as my eyes met a pair of green ones. My heart suddenly started beating like crazy. It was only now that I realized I was in my boss' arms and he was looking down at me with a raised eyebrow as I looked god knows how after my little nap. But what scared me even more was why I was in his arms! "What are you doing?" I squeaked in alarm and widened my eyes even more. I wriggled like crazy, trying to free myself from the arm that was around my waist. My boss looked down at me neutrally and suddenly pulled me up roughly by my arms so I was ripped out of his arms and sat next to him on the steps. "You fell asleep" my boss growled and got up from the stairs. What had tickled my face? "I sat here and didn't move a bit. How did you get here?" I snapped at my boss, standing up with a flourish. My heart was still running a marathon. "Don't misinterpret my bet. The kiss on the terrace meant nothing. I'm not interested in you!" I blurted out excitedly. Just because I accidentally kissed him didn't mean he could just give me a hug? I was more than shocked. How could this happen? The idea of my stuffy boss being interested in me sent a shiver down my spine. Never! "Miss Smith," my boss growled, interrupting me. "Don't overstep your bounds," he warned, wagging his index finger. His eyes flashed dangerously. "Are you taking advantage of my sleep state and trying to tell me to stay within limits?" I asked indignantly, stepping down the last few steps to face him. "You should be the one to keep within limits-" "That's enough Miss Smith. They're cheeky and never think about what they're actually saying," he said seriously, putting his hands in his pockets while stabbing me with his eyes. "What's that supposed to mean!?" I hissed, forgetting that he could fire me at any second. "That means you fell asleep on the stairs and when I tried to wake you up, you threw yourself on my neck and wouldn't let go of me," explained Mr. Adams, also narrowing his eyes at me. Embarrassed, I stood still in front of him and mentally slapped my forehead. "W-what?" I felt my face blush and hated myself for blushing all the time. I had done what? "You're lucky I didn't dump you on the steps. It certainly wouldn't have been comfortable," he continued and looked at me annoyed. So much on the subject that he might be interested in me. Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. Have I lost my mind? Like someone like Damien Adams could be interested in me. That was the impossible of all impossibilities. "Also, you should know that you're not really the type of woman I'm into. Don't worry I might be interested in you," he said sneering, jerking my glasses out of his pocket before holding them out to me. What was that supposed to mean? He had really attacked my self-confidence. I had never heard from a man that he indirectly found me unattractive. "I don't really like wearing glasses." I beg your pardon? Just because he was handsomer than average didn't mean he could turn me on like that? I angrily snatched my glasses from his hand and glared at him. How dare he? "I'm also not that into old men who just sit in the office and have no other purpose in life and have lost the fun in life," I replied and smiled innocently at him. The provocative twinkle in his eyes disappeared when I called him old. "Don't lean too far out of the window, Miss Smith." He took a few steps towards me, so I automatically ran back. "Don't tell me what to do. My shift is long over," I said, putting my glasses on my nose. "You're acting like a defiant teenager. Can't you pull yourself together for a second?" "Stop calling me that," I snapped back, feeling the tension between us. My boss's nostrils rose and fell in anger and his eyes spat fire. "See what I mean. Instead of apologizing for your childish behavior, you're getting more into it and wanting to blame me for the consequences of that," he said calmly, his eyes darkening. "If I'm childish, then you're a square!" "Miss Smith!" he warned angrily, pointing his index finger at me again. The veins in his neck were throbbing slightly with anger. Suddenly the steel door ripped open and we immediately parted, leaving a large gap between us. Sophia's smile disappeared when she spotted me. Mr. Adams turned his back on me and headed for the door. "I hope I'm not too late" Sophia murmured and gave our boss a bright smile. She was the complete opposite of me. From the looks of it, you couldn't say that we're sisters. While I had long brown hair, Sophia's hair was a few shades lighter and therefore almost dark blonde. She also had a shoulder-length bob while my hair was just below my waist. She had blue eyes while mine were brown. Also, I was quite a bit shorter than her while she was model size. Nevertheless, I wasn't any less attractive than her. "Thank you for being able to appear at such short notice," the philistine thanked her. "Not for that Mr. Adams. Madison, you're here too," Sophia said, forcing herself to smile, although I could clearly see in her eyes that she wanted to strangle me. Why was she looking at me like that? "Yes.. Hello Sophia. I worked some overtime today and after that the doors were locked" I cleared my throat and walked towards the door. I hurried out and didn't turn to face Sophia and Mr. Adams. I heard Sophia engage in a conversation with him. Have fun with him too. The dark night came towards me and I hurriedly made my way to the bus station. The cold wind blew against me and I clutched my arms as I was only wearing a top. Hopefully I wouldn't have to wait too long for the bus. I had a hunch that Sophia was into Mr. Adams. Of course I could be wrong, but the way Sophia always beamed in his presence and the way her smile was wiped from her face when she saw me, it only indicated that she had a serious crush on Mr. Adams. I couldn't understand it, of course, because first of all Mr. Adams was much too narrow-minded and arrogant. Second, he was way too serious, so I wouldn't even think about crushing him. "How are you getting home, Miss Smith?" A deep voice suddenly snapped me out of my thoughts and I spun around to look my stuffy boss in the eye. "I... take the bus," I said tersely, turning to leave. How had he caught up with me so quickly? I had no more nerve for this man. "Come with me. I'll drive you" determined Mr. Adams and thus stopped me from going. I stopped abruptly in surprise and turned to face him. He wanted what? Then I remembered our argument from earlier. I bit my lower lip hard not to make a snarky comment. "No thanks, that's not necessary" I declined his offer and he gave me a monotonous look. "It's quite late and I don't want you to be dependent on public transport at this time. After all, the safety of my employees is important to me," he said, still in a assertive tone, leaving no room for a no. Where did Sophia go? I would much rather be driven by her than by him. I didn't want to be driven by him as I was deeply offended that he had called me not only childish but also somewhat unattractive. But I also didn't want to wait alone at this late hour for the bus, which I have no idea when will come. In addition, it had become quite cold. I just sighed in surrender and followed him to his car.
