The Death Doctor
Chapter 1: The Return of Dr. Stone
Dr. Humphrey Stone stepped out of the prison gates, feeling the warm sun on his face for the first time in three years. He took a deep breath, trying to shake off the memories of the medical misadventures that had led to his imprisonment. He had sworn to start anew, to redeem himself as a doctor and a person.
As he walked to his car, he noticed a group of protesters holding signs that read "Death Doctor" and "Stone Must Not Practice". He sighed, knowing that his past mistakes would not be easily forgotten.
At the hospital, Dr. Stone was met with a mix of curiosity and hostility. His former colleagues, including Elizabeth Harris and Fred Meyer, eyed him warily. Only Nicole Watson, a young nurse, seemed welcoming.
"I can't believe they let you back," Elizabeth said, her voice low but laced with venom. "You're a menace, Humphrey."
"Come on, Liz," Fred intervened. "Let's give him a chance. He's been punished, and he's trying to make amends."
Dr. Stone smiled weakly. "Thanks, Fred. I appreciate your support."
Just then, a code blue was called, and Dr. Stone rushed to assist. As he worked to save the patient's life, he felt a strange sense of calm, a focus he hadn't experienced in years.
But as the patient flatlined, Dr. Stone's confidence began to waver. Had he made another mistake?
Detective Louis Paul, who had been watching from the sidelines, stepped forward. "Dr. Stone, it seems your luck hasn't changed. This patient's death looks suspiciously like your old M.O."
Dr. Stone's eyes narrowed. "I did everything by the book, detective. You can't blame me for this one."
But the detective's eyes were skeptical. "We'll see about that, Doctor. We'll see about that."
