Creating the dream team
The human here. I have been contracted by the adorable pair, Mr. Stars and Mr. Stripes to tell their story. I'm Jyliane, and I knew their mom. The ascent to greatness starts there.
One night, after closing my bar, I went to the local grocery store. As I shopped for late night snacks, my boyfriend wanted to browse. When he came back, he had a kitty cat following him. She was sweet and just followed us around the store. We grabbed some cat food, assuming she was a stray.
I asked the cashier if he knew they had a*****e cat. He explained she had started sneaking in with customers to get out of the weather. They tried online message boards and asked around but had no luck. I told him I'd take her to my bar and let her stay. I left my contact info. I would be happy to return her if she turned out to be someone's escaped pet.
She was a grey tabby, I'd say about 6 or 7 pounds. She was lovable and came right in and made herself at home. Smokey as we called her had it made. The bar had a few floors that were not being used, and we let her have free roam. She was content.
We noticed that after about a month, she started gaining weight. She was turning into quite the basketball. we hadn't let her out. However, we couldn't be sure she wasn't pregnant already at the store. She kept growing. At 2 months, we researched it. If she was pregnant, she should have already given birth. According to the wise words of the internet, two months is how long they are pregnant.
Leap day of 2020 Smokey screamed, climbed in the closest Budweiser box, and went into labor. The kittens were so big. It took less than a full week for the babies to start opening their eyes. There were six kittens in total 4 girls and 2 boys. The bar customers loved them.
They ruled the bar. Then Covid happened. We couldn't see a vet since the world had shut down. We had no choice but to start rehoming the kittens. We decided we would keep the boys so we didn't end up with more kittens. One of the regulars even took Smokey. Mr. Stars and Mr. Stripes had become our permanent bar staff.
