Sophie woke up the next morning with a determined expression on her face. She had decided to get her husband back no matter what and not let a stranger take her husband away from her.
Picking up her phone, she dialed her manager and assistant, Lydia. “Hello, Lydia”.
“Good morning ma'am”. Lydia responded from the other end of the phone.
“I will not be coming to the boutique today”. Sophie said into the phone.
“Is everything okay ma'am”? Lydia asked in concern.
“Not really”. Sophie replied with a sigh before proceeding to tell her all about her husband and his cheating.
“That's awful ma'am”. Lydia replied. “Is there anything I can do to help”? She asked.
“You're helping me a lot by taking care of my store while I'm away so you do not have to do anything else okay”? Sophie replied.
“If you're sure ma'am”. Lydia replied.
“I am, now take care of yourself and the boutique for me”.
“I will, goodbye ma'am”. Lydia replied before dropping the call.
Sophie sighed in exhaustion before standing to her feet and making her way to the kitchen. Getting there, she rolled up her sleeves and began making breakfast.
“I hope he'll like what I'll make for him,” she said to herself. “Good thing I kept the takeout I ordered in the fridge before I slept last night”.
Opening the fridge, she brought out the food she bought the previous day before placing it in the microwave. A couple of minutes later, the food was heated enough and she placed it into a dish for her husband but not before preparing coffee for him to start up his day.
As the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and sizzling bacon filled the kitchen, she remembered how Alexander used to love her cooking. It wasn't even up to two days since he last complimented her cooking and said he was the luckiest person alive to have gotten married to her much to her happiness and amusement.
She remembered how they used to spend their Sunday mornings lazing around while talking over pancakes and coffee.
“Where and when did it all go wrong”? She thought to herself with a sigh escaping her lips.
Picking up the food, she took it to the dining table before placing it down and setting the table for breakfast before going back to the kitchen to bring the cup of coffee.
As she arranged everything perfectly, she hoped that this small gesture would touch her husband and reignite the spark that was once between them. Just as she finished setting the table, she heard footsteps behind her which caused her to turn.
Turning around, she noticed her husband coming towards the dining table which brought a smile to her face. “Good morning my love”. She said with a smile.
And just behind him, she saw Catherine walking into the dining room. Sophie's heart sank but she steeled her resolve and made sure that they didn't see her pain.
“It's nice to see that you're up, my love”. She said with a stiff smile, her eyes briefly meeting Catherine's smug gaze.
“Hm”. Alexander gave a noncommittal response. “Is this for us”? He asked, gesturing to the food on the table.
“Yes, I thought you'd like breakfast and I also made you coffee just as you like it”. She said with a smile.
“Is this poisoned”? Alexander asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
“What?! No! Of course not”! Sophie replied in surprise. “I would never do something like that”.
“Is that so”? Alexander asked.
“Of course! I'll never poison my husband”! She replied.
“I believe you”. Alexander replied.
“What”?! Catherine asked in surprise. “Are you seriously going to believe her”?
“Yes, I am”. Alexander replied. “She does not have the heart to do something like that so yeah, I believe her”.
“Not like it's my business anyway since you're the one that'll eat this”. Catherine said with a shrug. “But I will not advise you to eat that though”.
“Then what will you eat”? Alexander said as he took a sip of the coffee.
“I will probably make a meal for myself but I am not eating that”. Catherine replied, gesturing to the food on the plate.
“What if I make Sophie taste it”? He asked.
“What?!” Sophie exclaimed in shock. “I already said that I'll never poison anyone”.
“Then you will have no problem tasting the food”. Catherine countered.
Hearing that, Sophie gritted her teeth before taking a mouthful of food from the plate. “As you can see, it is not poisoned”. Sophie said in annoyance.
“I'll believe you then”. Catherine replied before sitting down to eat the food
“No, that isn't for you”. Sophie protested. “It's for my husband and I'll appreciate it if you stand up at once”.
“Or else what”? Catherine asked.
Sophie gritted her teeth in response as she watched Catherine go back to eating the food she prepared.
Alexander glanced at Sophie with a look of disdain. “Make me another plate,” he ordered, his voice cold and dismissive.
Hearing that, Sophie's hands trembled in part anger and part hurt before nodding slowly and making her way to the kitchen. As she prepared another plate of food, she couldn't help but she'd tears as she thought about what just happened. “I can't believe he'll disrespect me in front of another woman”. She muttered to herself.
She knew she had to endure if she wanted her husband back but it was proving to be more difficult than she thought.
Returning to the dining room with the second plate, she placed it in front of Alexander. “Here you go,” she said softly.
Looking at the plate, he picked up his utensils and began eating without even looking at her or acknowledging her.
Sophie stood there quietly until they were done eating before picking up the empty plates they left behind and retreating into the kitchen while trying to hold back tears which fell immediately she got to the kitchen.
Resting on the kitchen sink with tears in her eyes, she didn't know when Catherine came inside the kitchen.
“Awww, are you crying”? Catherine asked mockingly
