“I do not owe you anything”! He said.
“How could you say that”? Sophie asked unhappily. “We are a married couple for God's sake so we both owe each other loyalty”.
“Maybe other married couples owe each other loyalty but I do not owe that to you”. He replied. “I am free to be with whoever I want to be with”.
“But we've been barely married for a year. How come I am no longer enough for you just after a year”? She asked.
“For the record”, Alexander began, as he walked closer to her before glaring into her tears-filled eyes. “I never loved you and never will and the only reason I married you was to please my mother”. He said.
Sophie felt taken aback as she heard that. “But you were the one that asked me out and you also told me that you loved me and you were also the person that proposed to me”.
“That might be true but I only did that because that was the wish of my mother,” he said.
“What does your mother have to do with this”? Sophie asked with a frown.
“Weren't you the one that helped my mother when she was hit by a car and was left on the floor on that deserted road”? He asked.
“You know the answer to that already so why are you asking me”? Sophie asked.
“Just answer the bloody question”. Alexander replied in annoyance.
“I was the one that saved your mum, yes”. Sophie replied.
“Do you know how inconvenient for me your actions were”? He asked.
“What do you even mean by that”? Sophie asked in bewilderment. “Was I supposed to ignore your mum while she was unconscious on the road and let her die”?
“Of course not”. Alexander replied with a shake of his head. “But nothing was stopping you from making yourself scarce once you had dropped her in the hospital right? So why then did you stay with my mother in the hospital until she woke up which made her see your face”? He asked.
“I wanted to make sure she was okay before I left”. Sophie replied.
“Liar”! Catherine chimed in. “I am very sure you had eyes on Alexander for a while so you felt you could use that condition to your advantage and manipulate his mother into liking you so you could get married to him”.
“That is not true”. Sophie replied in shock.
“Now that I think about it, it's very possible that you had a car hit her just so you could bring her to the hospital and let her like you”. Catherine said with a smirk.
“That's preposterous”! Sophie exclaimed. “Why exactly would I do something like that to anyone, talk more of Mrs Alice for that matter”?
“How am I supposed to know”? Catherine asked with a shrug. “Evil people do evil things and they do not need to have a good reason as to why they do the things they do”.
“Babe, don't tell me you believe the nonsense this woman is vomiting from her mouth”. Sophie asked, turning to look at Alexander in desperation but seeing the cold glare on his face, whatever hope she had in her died immediately.
“Now that I think about it, it's a very big possibility”. He replied coldly. “I still find it very fishy that my mother was so eager for you to get married to me and was always asking me to propose to you. It was almost as if you were threatening her. Were you”?
“Not”! Sophie replied. “I will never do that”.
“I do not believe you but we will deal with this later”. Alexander replied.
“What do you mean by dealing with this later”? Sophie asked in confusion. “What happened to dealing with this now”? She asked.
“I am busy right now”. He replied with a smirk before kissing Catherine on her lips. “So unless you want to stay here and watch, I suggest that you leave and shut the door behind you”. As he said that, he carried Catherine and dropped her on the bed before touching her between her legs much to the disgust of Sophie.
Seeing that they were about to continue what they were doing earlier, Sophie hurriedly ran out of the room before shutting the door behind her.
Walking back to the sitting room, she sat down on a chair before the dining table and began crying softly while staring at the cake.
“How could he do this to me”? She muttered to herself amidst tears. Standing up and walking into the next room, she went into the bathroom and stood before the mirror to look at herself. “But I didn't add weight at all and I'm still the same person he met so why can't he love me”? She asked no one in particular before collapsing to the floor in tears.
Sophie cried on the floor before turning on her phone and dialing a number.
“Hello, Mother”. She said into the phone.
“Hello my love, how are you doing”? A female voice answered from the other end.
“I'm not doing okay Mother”. Sophie replied.
“What happened to you”? She asked in concern. “Why are you crying”?
“It's Alexander”. Sophie replied.
“What did he do? Did he beat you? If he did, I am going to lock him up for a very long time and your father will be more than happy to do the honors”. She added.
“No Mum, he is cheating on me and he isn't even sorry about it”. Sophie replied.
“I am so sorry about that, my dear”. Her mum replied. “You know that I and your dad were against your marriage to that man in the first place but you insisted and that is why your father was against me coming for your marriage”.
“I know Mum”. Sophie replied sniffing.
“So what are you going to do now”? Her mum asked.
Sophie kept quiet for a while before replying. “I am going to do my best to make sure he loves me back”. She replied.
“Are you serious”? Her mum asked in surprise. “He cheated on you”.
“Yes he did but once I give him my love, he'll love me back”.
